Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I finally had a chance to buy some wood. Things have been in short supply here for a few weeks.
Packed the TMNT and shadow up.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I also shuffled the deck around the warehouse. Have to do it every so often or all the new arrivals start to bury to old ones.
[quoted image]

After the Safecracker, you should do the one on the far left next. I think it will bring you extreme levels of satisfaction.
Happy Anniversary.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Spent a couple hours troubleshooting which might be a record for me with a EM.
I started with a game that would do nothing(coin door slam tilt just barely and I mean barely not fully closed)
Transitioned to one that wouldn’t score 500 points.(wire off the score reel in the back box)
Then a game thats score motor would not stop spinning (another wire off a switch very hidden)
Went from that to one that wouldn’t stop scoring 500 (a leg of a roll over switch was just barely touching another under a huge relay bank)
I am definitely getting more comfortable and getting a better understanding of them.
Will do all I can to clean flatten and polish the original plastics and then it should be all done.

This has to be the nicest looking EM in existence. Incredible work!

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I started prepping the MM cabinet.
After thoroughly cleaning it and seeing how well the original art is adhered I come to the conclusion it’s probably way more work with a lesser outcome to try and salvage it as is than to strip and decal. [quoted image]
It’s something I can and have done when no alternative exist but in this case each small spot just grows so much bigger once properly feathered out. [quoted image][quoted image]
Then there are the factory holes to fill [quoted image]
The previous damage. [quoted image]
The broken joints in the head.
[quoted image][quoted image]
The expansion crack running down the side. [quoted image]
The splinter and depressions around the bolt holes. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
All those things add up and some can’t be corrected without totally stripping and straighten the cabinet so it’s not worth the effort to dance around them. This is pretty common when something looks good at a glance assembled but can be further scrutinized once completely disassembled plus the fact that disassembly itself will add a little more to it.
Anyway I can salvage it but it’s not going to be as nice cosmetically as a perfected and decaled cabinet in this instance.

Since you’re going to decal, what are the pros and cons of repairing vs. replacing the cabinet?

#9808 2 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

It’s really hard to break this down because evaluating a cabinet is so individual it’s almost like evaluating a person.
I will break it down as follows.
Cosmetics?
How does the original cabinet look?
A)Very nice just a couple minor blemishes. All of which can be properly repainted to look factory or better.
Okay. That would be the ideal route to take.
B) Good but not perfect. There are details that can’t be perfectly nor convincingly repainted but the cabinet itself is solid.
Strip and perfect cabinet then apply high quality art if available or possible.
C) Rough but structurally sound.
Same as above.
Structure.
How solid is the cabinet.
A)Solid no structural issues. Bottom is flawless or can be refreshed to flawless.
Reuse original.
B) Answer is not A
Replace cabinet as long as there’s an ability to replace or recreate cabinet art. (This is my most common outcome and process based on what comes through here and what my standards are).
Wildcard. Cabinet is less than ideal but there are no alternatives.
A) Make the most of what you have to work with.
B)Same as A!

Awesome, thanks. Can’t wait to see the outcome. Impressive every time!

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

On the flippers someone has replaced them very recently.
Great but there is an issue.
Part of the right flipper bracket was wedged under the trough. [quoted image]
It’s this part. Should not be on there for CV. [quoted image]
Break out the cut off wheel. [quoted image]
[quoted image]
All set.
[quoted image]
Rebuilt the flippers with color correct wire and a new flipper kit because once they get cranked down there is little point in reusing the old stuff even when it’s practically brand new.
Also the diverter with a new plunger.

CV arrived this week! I am blown away! The packaging is second to none, and even the lumber is pristine! I mean even the 2x4’s are the nicest I’ve ever seen.

And the custom ziplock bags? It’s the nice little touches like this that show how much thought and care goes into everything.
