Hmmm...I usually measure and drill the playfield pivot holes, light board holes etc. Before decal installation...what it the advantage to doing it after decaling?
Besides not having to cut the decal away with a hobby knife...

Quoted from High_End_Pins:I do that sometimes as well just depends on the build.
I find that the wood holds together nicely for the drilling with the decal in place though and less holes equals better adhesion in those areas.
It isn't really an advantage or disadvantage.
Cabinet needs the holes one way or the other.
Also forgot to mention that often I have these cabinets painted and decaled before the old ones are torn down and locations are known.
I wont bombard you with a bunch if questions but do you find differences in the hole locations even within the same title?
In other words are all IJs drilled exactly the same? Thanks
Quoted from twinmice:Dont know if this has been asked before, but what do you do to avoid the wrinkles in the new cab artwork after bolt installation? I know don't over tighten I have barely tightened the bolts and sometimes still get the wrinkles. Any tips? Thanks Mike
I have had this happen as well, any tips?
Quoted from High_End_Pins:By guide coating while the primer is uncured the black overspray settles into this low spots.
It is also why the guidecoat application can look sloppy but is strategically sprayed.
You spot the imperfections wet and focus the guidecoat on them when spraying.

Fantastic tip...thanks for sharing
How much time total was spent on stenciling the head, not including priming?
Looks great...we appreciated you taking the time to not only document the process, but to answer our questions as well
Seriously... everything in this thread is interesting... I am looking forward to seeing all the decorations....hell I bet it would be a great read if you documented yourself doing yardwork
I cant wait to see the fan unit when you are done... I expect a lot of chrome and some custom mixed color...that thing is really gonna pop....
You work incredibly fast, how long do you wait between final paint and the application of clear coat?
Quoted from High_End_Pins:That has actually been presented a few times over the years and even by a actor I did some games for but those types of things tend to destroy families and businesses in the long run so.
No Maverick and I need our privacy and to have complete control of everything
We’d rather have our fun and freedom than money or fame.
Good call...
tv_chopper_duo1a (resized).jpgQuoted from High_End_Pins:These final clear jobs must be error free because I do not want nor like the look of a sanded and polished cabine
So your final clearcoat is not sanded at all, the final finish is just sprayed pefectly and not touched?
Quoted from lb1:This dry install video is excellent.
Using paint pens to map out the harness...this is why I make sure not to miss a single post, what a great tip...
Lol, I blinked and this thread was on fire with 50+ posts...i was thinking "what the hell could have happened to the dr"
Oh #1 for sure
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Ok I am officially back to pinball today.
I have my building in a good enough position where I can start just chipping away at what is left to do a little at a time in the background while I focus on pinball.
Going to start today with prepping a Mirco TOM playfield for install.
Mircos latest offerings have addressed some of these things I know to look out for on this particular playfield but I have this one and it needs to be put in my TOM project.
[quoted image]
The main things to catch prior to install will be the lack of a recess for the t nut that sits under the trunk on the topside.
[quoted image]
This is handled by tapping a dowel in the existing hole
[quoted image]
Then using a forstner bit the size of the t nut case
[quoted image]
Run it backwards slowly and firmly through the art and into the first ply
[quoted image]
Now run it forwards through another ply
[quoted image]
Now seat the t nut.[quoted image]
It sure is easier watching someone else do it... I appreciate you outlining this procedure for me a few days ago when I asked for some help...I didnt have the stones to drill it like you suggested and ended up doing it with a dremel.... took a little over an hour.
After seeing how easy you did it, I guess I should have given it a try...

Just started to repopulate my playfield, I will be following along closely...
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Now for my new HG cabinet prep. [quoted image]
The guy that built these cabinets only had a Kiss for reference.
These cabinets are nearly identical but there are some minor differences.
That difference is in the playfield runner.
This portion needs to be cut away to clear the drop bank on HG.
[quoted image]
Wow, thats one of the most complicated cabs I have seen...
Quoted from yancy:I've tried! You'd think a thin glove wouldn't make me the clumsiest person on earth, but it does. I can't even hang onto a screw.
Plus it makes my hands really sweaty...gross
I agree with the above, however, for the love of god lets not derail the best thread on pinside with stupid pissing matches...
Can we not clutter this thread up with debate...about anything...there are a million other threads to do that in.
Please just let Chris showcase his talents.
I dont think a question or two here or there is a problem, but lets try to keep quiet and observe
Quoted from Aniraf:Why is there not an always on camera in your shop that lets us watch everything! Amazing work!!
I would tune into the Chriscam as often as possible...
Quoted from High_End_Pins:The panel is then based in white after plastic priming.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:from your pics it looks like you actually painted the piece white?
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Chris.
Thank you for the greatest thread on pinside and I look forward to following along again next year!
Quoted from High_End_Pins:From the exact same place I got the bad ones two years later.
They have definitely improved.
These are pinball decals from Europe
Have you ever used their Funhouse decals, and if so what was your opinion?
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:HEP is now a verb, and only 1 person can HEP.
Pinside has been the genesis of a few verbs...only one person can HEP, but there are a few pinsiders who can "Choggard" someone
Quoted from Concretehardt:I just wanted to post a few pictures and give a big thank you to Chris. My MM finally came today, the game arrived in perfect condition thanks to the standard HEP packing job. When I unwrapped the game I was blown away, it is absolutely beautiful! Even my wife who normally doesn’t even notice if I get a new game was walking by it and stopped in her tracks and was like “wow that’s pretty!”
Thanks again Chris, it was a awesome working with you! Now I have to figure out how to save up enough to have you do another one for me
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Damn Sean, what a beauty. You should be (and obviously are) very proud of that game.
Looks amazing!
I had never really noticed the cab art on SBM before, but it sure is a powerful image. The artist on that title did an outstanding job
Quoted from Garrett:Did you HEP a pin for him? That's pretty cool.
I watched the show for a few years when they were having fun building bikes. But once the money got going it turned south.
Such a shame that money does this to people, espescially family.
In the end, that's all you really have.
