Quoted from High_End_Pins:Connections are made for the solenoid harness
Not too much thought needed on the sling
[quoted image]
Starting here I need to split the yellow and violet strand. I dont want to add a third 18 awg to this connector I made during the coil removal
[quoted image]
Instead I separate them
[quoted image]
Then use a smaller color correct wire to help them share the strand in a smaller footprint for the Molex pin
[quoted image]
This gives a easier to manage set of plugs. [quoted image]
Solenoid Harness is now free

And cleaned [quoted image]
+1 for Shinedown song on your Apple Watch.
Fantastic detail on how you do things Chris. It is so impressive to me.
I'd be happy to have the games you START with, let alone complete!
Keep up the great work! I love seeing this stuff.
Chris
I don't know how you find time to do all this amazing work, cook these amazing meals, drink this amazing beer, AND post it all to Pinside. I'm exhausted just reading the thread
Chris
Chris -
Question for you. Are these posts in real time? I was just wondering that as I was reading through the thread. I mean like when you clear coat, and every day there is progress, is that like stuff that you had done already, or is it as it happens?
Just a curiosity to me.
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:These are real time. Since I am always working on four or five games at a time I am able to keep things moving.
If the playfield is curing for one I can build another,if the cabinet is freshly primed I can sand and paint one I did the day before.
Thanks for the reply. That makes these updates even more impressive (if that were possible).
Chris
Looking great as always!
Do you have random plated parts as spares and use them, then get the used ones cleaned up and plated?
Chris
It's one thing to be good at playfield touch ups
It's one thing to be good at clear coating
It's one thing to be good at wiring
It's one thing to be good at cabinet restoration / decals
It's one thing to be good at choosing good beer
It's another level altogether to be good at ALL these things!
Love this thread!
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:TOTAN on legs it’s a rough one.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Not for long!
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:TOTAN wiring continues.
This ones starting to remind me s bit of that BSD I just finished a couple weeks ago.
[quoted image]
Part of the problem is the condition but honestly most of it is my own OCD.
When I see a rusty socket I want to replace them all.
[quoted image]
When I replace them all then I don’t want to use old wire.
[quoted image]
When I use new wire then so want to make sure it can’t short any possible way do I need protection
[quoted image]
When I put those protections in place then I have to make sure they stay put so I need zip ties.
[quoted image]
Then if I go through all that I may as well make it easier to mate back into the main harness so I need a plug.
[quoted image]
But what if someone else plugs it in wrong?Need to make sure that is impossible so I need to make a different scheme for the plug
[quoted image]
You get the idea I am sure and this is happening at every single socket ,switch ,and coil. It’s the difference in doing it in 30 hours or 60 but it isn’t always noticed or appreciated.[quoted image][quoted image]
The devil is in the details, Chris, and this is why your work stands out above others!
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:After some organizing I am in a much better spot to start dealing with these three cabinets.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I get sad when your "before" cabinet is better than my current cabinet. LOL
Greta work as always!
Chris
Absolutely beautiful Chris. Where did you source a backglass if I may ask?
I know many who would get a glass if they were available.
Chris
Quoted from NYP:When reading and watching your posts I’m always asking myself if you ever make mistakes. I did notice the button off center but didn’t have the nerve to say anything. But I personally appreciate you sharing that, makes me feel better when I make mistakes, and yes after 40 years I still make mistakes! So please show more mistakes! Maybe I shouldn’t even be using that word, corrections!
Technically this wasn't Chris' mistake. The cabinet he sourced was drilled wrong. Unless I am mistaken, they come drilled.
This is the HEP difference right here. He noticed and corrected the mistake before it even got out of the cabinet painting stage.
You pay for what you get indeed. Well done Chris!
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:When good things go bad.
I was combing through my BK pictures before I start the final session on the cabinet and I noticed how far off my stenciling was around the start button.
[quoted image]
Knowing that my stencils were lined up properly I investigated further.
Original is at 2 &1/4 from the left
[quoted image]
Mine was drilled at around 2 &1/2
[quoted image]
Alright that kind of sucks but shit happens. I could whine about it .I could leave it alone or I could fix it.
I cut a dowel [quoted image]
Make a plug
[quoted image]
Glue it [quoted image]
Sand it
[quoted image]
Drill it in the right spot
[quoted image]
Fill it just in case there are any hairline edges
[quoted image]
Sand and prime
[quoted image]
I wasn’t crazy about the front scheme anyway. Completely happy with the sides and head but was planning to rework the front during the final session so not a huge set back but just goes to show how little things that aren’t even on your radar can pop up.
I was thinking about this post today and looking at the Black Knight in my basement. The more I looked, the more I thought that your stencils could have been right, and the repro cabinet could have been right based on what they used for the pattern.
If you look at my Black Knight, it too has an offset to the sword start button, which will now forever bother me. Thanks a lot Chris! LOL
Quoted from ToucanF16:I’m in Osaka and went to the Silver Ball Planet today. They had A Skateball right up front. Only 10yen (~$.10) a game![quoted image]
Wait, you can move around in Japan?! Most of the US is in lockdown
Cool to see a Skateball out in the wild like that.
Chris
Quoted from davidw:It looks like the G.I. (grey) is one run stripped at each lamp socket. How do you manage to strip it in the middle of the wire?
I can do that with a wire stripper like this (I am not saying that's how he does it though)
wire stripper (resized).pngQuoted from High_End_Pins:Starting to make some progress on the underside of the BK lower. [quoted image]
New caps and resistors for the sling switches
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
All new individual lamp sockets. [quoted image]
New magnets and brackets [quoted image]
Nickel plated brackets and new coils[quoted image]
New flipper assemblies with removable stops[quoted image]
Brilliant! Now I want my lane guides to light up too! Are those white or is that the protective coating to keep the steel shiny?

As always, absolutely stunning work. I'm personally not a fan of some of the colors, but the work is impeccable! You build what the customer wants, and you can't deny that!
I appreciate the time you take to share your craft with us.
Chris
Quoted from JWJr:Lining up the screw heads. OMG.
and that, my friends, is the HEP difference! That would drive me crazy!
Chirs
Quoted from High_End_Pins:This is a lot of work. I only did one so far and haven’t cleared it yet.
Just trying to talk myself into the effort.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I will be very sad if that lower leg bolt isn't painted yellow.
That looks fantastic!
Chris
Quoted from PinMonk:I had never seen that mod before. Looks like a must-have if you've got a Funhouse. Even moreso if your Funhouse is a POS in need of something - anything - good.
Looks pretty cool, but seems like it reads TUNHOUSE. Not sure why they didn't add 2 additional LED's in the F. Maybe it's just me.
Chris
Merry Christmas to you and your family Chris! Thanks for the updates to keep some kind of normalcy to this insane year!
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Judge Dredd cabinet is ready to start building tomorrow.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Oh man that cabinet is NICE!!!!!!
Chris
There is no dispute about the quality of this work. What really impresses me is the speed in which it is done.
This thread just astounds me.
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Didn’t get a chance to take too many progress pictures the last couple days but here are some videos for those looking for updates.
Should get back to business as usual here tomorrow.
These videos are gold! Like watching Picasso paint a picture. I just marvel at the skill and knowledge.
Thank you for sharing them!
Chris
The pictures are amazing, but I am really enjoying the YouTube channel. I find it incredibly soothing as well. Like watching Bob Ross, but with pinball!
Chris' skills are just amazing to me (and I know others can do just as well) and I am always in awe.
Chris
I had an Airborne and am drooling at what you're doing with this one.
What's as impressive as your work is the time you take to document it. It is appreciated (and admired).
Chris
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Done with the Sopranos. Maybe I can get it outside for pictures tomorrow. We tend to get pop up afternoon thunderstorms almost daily this time of the year.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
That translite is way better than the original. I love it!
Chris
Happy Birthday Chris! Welcome to the 50's club! LOL
You know a business is legit when a pin is wrapped like that for PICKUP. I've seen less packaging on pins being shipped long distance!
Well done as always!
Chris
