Quoted from PinMonk:

Is regraining a customer preference? I never understood why making ball guides look like grained/satin stainless was the goal instead of mirror-polishing them. The mirror polished ones resist ball trails better in my experience and look WAY better, reflecting playfield details like chrome.

Mirror polishing requires about 20x time/dust or more compared to regrain process. For me, one set (ball guides, ramps, inlane stuff, etc) means 3-4 working days.
And for few guys, mirror polish looks too fancy/tawdry (I like it).

This thread looks like a "Best of Chris". One day's post = snapshot of 1 week. Oh, wait, no, it's realtime... Simply amazing.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and document it.

"The playfield comes completely dimpled and drilled, ready to install"
Completely dimpled? Yes.
Completely drilled? Yes.
Ready to install? Yes, if the end result is not important

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

I was thinking about this post today and looking at the Black Knight in my basement. The more I looked, the more I thought that your stencils could have been right, and the repro cabinet could have been right based on what they used for the pattern.
If you look at my Black Knight, it too has an offset to the sword start button, which will now forever bother me. Thanks a lot Chris! LOL

Yours is OK, it's factory. See the flyer:

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I have a new playfield for the IJ.
It’s been here a few months.
When it arrived it looked great.
After sitting on the playfield rack in perfect temperature and humidity ranges the inserts have settled a bit.
Not a surprise at all and it is why I believe in letting them set and then reworking just about the time I am ready to actually use it. [quoted image]
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
It was sanded flat and recleared
This levels it back out now that the manufacturing process has fully cured.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

The POA were rebuilt also.
Had to drill them because I was only provided the sample version and all three of these are production versions.
Wasn’t a big deal for me but would have been more ideal if I was asked or given the option when buying as to which version I needed.
The MB game gets the custom rails as provided by the owner.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

There was only one version available by Mirco. According to webshop, no options are available (although he promised to release a production version few weeks/months ago).
Conclusion: he was not aware that his product is based on sample design - another reason why a public design validation makes sense.

Nice work Chris!
I am the "supplier" of the protectors for drop targets. My advice is to install mylar below the airball plastic. This area will see heavy traffic, and tons of "attenuated" balls.

Quoted from PeterG:

I see you use a lot of Mirco playfields, there is a lot of discussion on his playfields GNR. Wonder if you notice any irregularities, like softer wood, pooling as soon as you populate the playfield, the print not attached correctly. I know you do your own clearcoat but the one that is on there, is that really that bad? Any thoughts/info would be greatly appreciated.

In the past: too soft.
New runs are better.

Hey Chris, easy question for you . . . for WPC-089 pins (Getaway, in particular), what gauge wire should I use on the switch matrix? 18AWG?

It's in the parts list. 22 AWG.

Quoted from manples:This black is stunning. I will definitely redo mine like that. Got to find a black speaker panel too.

Black speaker panel is also available in Europe.

#9084 3 years ago

It's not available via webshop, and for obvious reasons, I would not disclose the contact here.
PM sent with contact info.

Quoted from fossmin:

I have a spare speaker panel I can send you. I was just trying to figure out what to do with it. Let me know if you want it.

Is your speaker panel contains the 3 flasher PCB?
If not, then Chris I can offer 3x single flasher PCB as plan B.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Tough crowd tonight.
Lol!
I wondered why there were two of these.I think I can actually fix that for a change. Honestly I picked the other because the neon orange was a better match to the set.
Always a method to the madness. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Not your fault, you did nothing wrong. The plastic set is screen printed, like in the good old days: multiple stencils, time consuming process.
Unfortunately there was a typo error, and nobody realized this during the process.
Re-run was not possible, due to time and cost reasons.

Plan B was to create and add a shooter lane plastic to the set, with correct text. This plastic is digitally printed.

And here comes the dilemma: we have a very nice screen printed plastic set (very rare) with vivid and deep colors... With a minor issue. On the digital print the text is correct, but the colors are not so vibrant. As Chris stated, the neon is not there. The standard orange is "weak" on the digital print. Old screen printed process is way better.

Personally I will use the screen printed plastic in my JD restoration.

Thanks that game is terrible. It’s totally killing the operation every time I touch it but I am getting closer to having everything to complete it.
Right now I need an A-16225 opto interrupter to finish the mechs.
Let me know if anyone has it.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

In case you can't find a metal part, this will do the job (I did similar for Judge Dredd). I am working on the design right now, and will do a 3D print tomorrow.

Quoted from Elicash:

Chris (or anyone in this thread), where are you sourcing the oak playfield rails from? Are you making these yourself now? I had purchased from Taylor Reese in the past but he seems to have stopped his operation. At least through pinside. I am looking for a set for a Whirlwind.

If you are a DIY guy:
At the local hobby store, or wood shop, you can buy raw rails for few $ / pin. All you need is: jigsaw, drill, sandpaper, black paint. Clearcoat is optional (I did not applied).
As I remember, cost was 6$ for 2 pin, and an hour of work.

If the original topper is available, I would not use a reproduction.
For faded art, an overlay is available at TreasureCove. I would paint the yellowed plastic support to white, then a combination of overlay decal and the original metal foil is a vivid topper with waterfall effect.
Just my 2 cents.
