Coin door was built and wired with new wiring.
Globetrotters lives.

Quoted from spandol:

The Meatmen has some good stuff as well as funny. Listen to We’re the Meatmen and you Still Suck”. All the songs are good. You’ll get a good laugh too.

Yeah when I was about 14 or 15 I loved that stuff as well as the Dead Milkmen “Big Lizard in My Backyard “ record.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Now to build some coin doors.
I am going to build one for the HG and one for the special Centaur.

I put on my compression socks and will rest my leg on the bosa ball to keep tension off it.

Meatmen on the radio this song is the anti Beatles rant lol![quoted image]

Sorry to hear about your leg.
I hope it doesnt turn into something serious.

I'm curious, I believe I read some restore thread and you mention getting rid of hex head screws and using phillips head screws instead. Any reason why you chose to go this route this time around?

Depends on the game era and locations. Too much thought process to put into words but the main thing is that they could be changed for consistency(all using the same screw style topside) or because they function better (micro screws in place of hex for rollover actuators)depending on the application.

My first Spirit playfield is fully cured now so I can finish that game up finally.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The inserts have settled into a reasonable place. Not too sunken nor perfectly flat but extremely close.
The threat of overclearing makes it not worth going any further in the name of cosmetics alone.

#4408 4 years ago

First thing I need to do is strip the old playfield the rest of the way.
As I do this I will rebuild and add plugs as needed.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
This one is a bit of a mess.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

When it first began the process nearly a year ago it had this crazy steel bar anchored across the playfield to try and straighten it I presume.

That is what these are about.

smudges in the branding? say it ain't so!

#4415 4 years ago

That thing is sick. I'm telling you, I've seen a good many of those HG's and even ones that really aren't "beat" are just terrible to keep running. This thing looks like it will outlive me, though. Dang. I want it.

Old school warp removal from the EM days. Its clumsy but works pretty good if done right.

#4417 4 years ago

No hep name burn on this one? Looks beautiful.

Cheers

#4418 4 years ago

Awesome work, so much better than it would have looked when removed from the original factory box. A whole new level of new.

#4419 4 years ago

Chris,
Love reading your forum. I learn a lot about pinball, exercise, food, landscaping, traveling, etc. I've never really tried drinking barrel aged stouts but want to give it a try. What are some of your favorites? What you would recommend trying?

No The gray coating makes a mess if you try to burn it.
I think I could scrape it off burn it then gray back over but I will have to try that next time before I start assembly.

#4421 4 years ago

Thanks for the compliments on the HG.

I was a little on the fence about my slightly darker blue choice this time around because it can be hard to predict exactly how well it works until final assembly but it really fell together perfectly. So much so that it makes me hesitant to use any other shade on one moving forward unless requested.

Tough question because they can range from easy to hard to find but the best season for them is right around the corner.
I like straight forward versions best and generally would avoid pumpkin and coconut versions because those two flavors in particular overpower the stout.

Founders KBS and CBS are good reliable versions

Pretty much any made by Prairie Artisan Ales are great. The Birthday Bomb, and Christmas Bomb are also reliable.

Easily found versions that are good are New Holland Dragons Milk and Epic Big Bad Baptist

Agreed 100% Even beer styles that I'm not personally crazy about, PAA seems to hit it out of the park. Expensive, but amazing quality.

No more beautiful pics like this after certain people achieve ridding the earth of cows

My comments are in no way intended to be political nor do I want to start a conversation on the topic. Just trying to emphasize that I don't think you can ever take the carnivore out of some of us, and my mouth starts watering seeing a beautiful steak like that on the grill!

Yeah. I don’t think you can truly get all your nutrients without supplements on a plant based diet or even if you focus on one meat group alone.
I like a white meat chicken ,fresh pacific/Alaskan salmon and steak rotation occasionally I might have a bite of something else but those three seem to hit the majority of what is needed as healthily as possible with the steak only eaten once a week.
Nothing political nor any guilt about it. If it is available and I like it then it is happening but a vegan lifestyle is cool if you can stand it.

Still have two more to cook but I knew I couldn’t fit three at once going to cook those low and slow.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
While that happens I will pack the HG so I can take it to the warehouse. The thing about a really thorough and well thought our build is while you put a lot of time and effort in on the front end you save a lot on the back.
I always have to make some minor adjustments but I am not taking things back apart or fighting it after completion.

Relax, Texas dudes, I'm a meat eater. Just a pet peeve when someone says "I don't want to be political or start a discussion, but... (insert comment here)." You're bascially saying I want only my opinion to be heard, then shut down any further discussion. Here's an idea, just don't go there in the first place.

Apologies to Chris for contributing to the derail. This is the best thread on pinside. Let's get back to pinball, steak, beer, fitness, and just all-around good living.

#4434 4 years ago

I agree with the above, however, for the love of god lets not derail the best thread on pinside with stupid pissing matches...

I don't believe I used the word "but". Point was that I'll happily mock the idea, but (there's that word) I purposefully toned it down without pointing specific fingers so as not to hijack this thread. Just happy to see that HEP enjoys a nice steak once and awhile like I do (not to mention most of the other foods he shows look really appetizing - especially those lobster rolls).

Anyway, lunch looked awesome and not sure how you were able to resist a nap after that one. I like that this thread is not only about the amazing pinball restorations you do, but you also add some lifestyle and personal insight to it. Probably the biggest attraction of Pinside to me is getting to know other people who love the hobby, and HEP sets the standard for taking a personal approach in everything you share.

I hear you. People are on edge because sadly sometimes even a man eating a nice hot juicy steak can come under attack

Chris, I'm curious to know, do you ever recieve a few of the same game from different clients after doing a particular restoration job? Do you get a bunch of emails inquiring about restoring a particular pin after sharing a finished job online?

I'm enjoying these Centaur restors. Just loving the finished product and your unique touch that you add to them.

Yes sometimes it does work that way. Right now I seem to be on a HG and Diner run. It can be based on the work I am showcasing or the release of much anticipated parts like playfields.
I always try to stick to the idea of never building the exact same game twice. Sometimes the changes are subtle other times they can be pretty drastic a lot of it is opened up or limited by the owners willingness to deviate from the original schemes.

Caved in for the UFC 241 tonight. I had lost interest after ESPN took it over but tonight’s card is pretty tough to ignore. Curtis is on board.
He has been working 12 hour shifts this week and finally got the day off.

A question.

When installing polarized LED flashers like 5smd towers, how do you sort out + and - via the wiring?

It seems that Williams has black or gray with color for negative mostly and some other color with sttipe for positive?

It's tough to set these LEDs with no power to test during a restore.

Had a late night last night but today I did manage to do a few things.
First I finished building and wire the special Centaur coin door. Also test fit the backglass.
