I would try a bit of spraymax 2k.
Its auto clear in a can, so perfect for small projects.
Hey Chris I was wondering....how much primer and paint do you think each cabinet and backbox receives? A quart, pint, how many ounces whatever?
And then do you apply whatever you mix whether it needs it or not to try not to have any leftover.

Auto clear is probably fine for it though and really would hold up well to the oils from hands and regular use. I would try it out on something I didn’t care about first to gauge compatibility.

It is worth noting that TOM is a game specific cabinet.
The details of that are important because the transformer is shifted over the left more.

The reason is if not it will hit the lock post coil bracket picture here

Because of that the vent holes are located in an odd pattern.

This also makes it necessary to recess and locate one of the transformer t nuts under the left skid.

That was pretty tedious over the weekend TOM uses a few coils that really set on the top edge of the playfield. These can easily chafe other wiring or get tabs broken off.
As a result I make sure to solder heavy and protect. image (resized).jpg

It takes about 3/4 of a gallon to get three good coats on the head and lower inside and out.
The goal is to bury the wood grain. The first coat just soaks in that allows the next two coats to build up from there.
I would rather put any mixed primer on the cabinet than in the trash knowing it will mostly be sanded away during the straightening and prep process.

These are real time. Since I am always working on four or five games at a time I am able to keep things moving.
If the playfield is curing for one I can build another,if the cabinet is freshly primed I can sand and paint one I did the day before.

I noticed when I opened it up it was not quite as yellowed as I am used to seeing in the whites.

This one is from right after they quit putting the wood stick bulb remover in the goodie bag. Ops got pissed and quit buying games over it. So Bally started putting the parts in again. Wood stick and black rubber tube. But quit paying someone to assemble it. Ops got their free thing again and life went on. Yours is a later unassembled one.

I hear ya! We're coming up on our season for beers so might have some coming your way!
When I know I am replacing the cabinet,the playfield,the plastic set,line filter,all coils ,lamp sockets etc etc
I find it easier just to wash the entire game down as a starting point.
Only the lowers because the heads are a slightly different animal with the lamp panel,transformer etc by the time you break those down it is easier to go a part at a time but the lower cab and playfield there isn’t much there that will be reused.
That being the case I can really get out in front of the cleaning and polishing this way.
I know this might seem horrific but trust me at this level it is just a means to an end

What this has done is really given me a solid relevant jig to really work on cleaning the harness and parts I will rebuild.
The minor things like the switch blades and brackets really shine and these tend to fall apart if cleaned in the sink once unbolted.
