Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Now for my new HG cabinet prep. [quoted image]
The guy that built these cabinets only had a Kiss for reference.
These cabinets are nearly identical but there are some minor differences.
That difference is in the playfield runner.
This portion needs to be cut away to clear the drop bank on HG.
[quoted image]

Wow, thats one of the most complicated cabs I have seen...

Quoted from cosmokramer:

Wow, thats one of the most complicated cabs I have seen...

These early Bally cabinets are tough.
A lot of people I have dealt with can’t understand how a bare cabinet can cost as much as a game ($1000 for example) but if they tried building one they would quickly understand.
The framing of the head image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The venting
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The block work and valances
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The recesses
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

If any are off the glass won’t fit or lock and that is just the head
The lower is even worse with the multi part neck, playfield runners cash box frame and even more 45s

WOW, guess labor was relatively cheap back in the day!

Quoted from ToucanF16:

Probably so plus they were building them by the thousands instead of one at a time.

HG cabinet is being masked then I can move it into the prep shop for a little filler work. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Once I do that I will go over the head image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
There is a lot to check and deal with on one of those before any paint work is done.
Before I can do that I have to deal with the latest salmon shipment.
30lbs this time because Pacific Kings caught in Norther CA are plentiful this year. Down to $19.99 a pound so it is a good time to stock the freezer

How long will that last? That's a hefty bill for fish.

You may have shared before or it may be a trade secret, but if you can would you mind sharing what products you use for paint and clearcoat?

Quoted from mario_1_up:

Usually a month or so. This may last a little longer. I eat salmon every other to every third day.
Other days are chicken with one day a week being beef but I only eat one large meal a day and that is lunch.

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

I use Cromax auto paint products.
I am certified in RM,PPG,Sikkens,Sherman Williams,ICI and of course DuPont and the reason I use Cromax(DuPont)is simply because that is the carried by my closest supplier just 2 miles down the road.
The other reason is on the high end of the product lines they are all about the same.
None have any “secret sauce” really. The chemical compositions are the same across the board generally when formulated for this purpose.

HG lower is being prepped. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
One thing I like to do on this era is firmly secure the neck to the lower. Not just trust the glue and nails
Shorter trim style on the sides. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Longer decking screws through the back plate these are 3.5 inches long.
I will then fill those and the top plate for a more seamless look.

HG lower is ready to prime.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#4163 4 years ago

Next lower to prep is Scared Stiff image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
I have several cabinets to prep actually now that the prep and paint rooms are back up to speed.
BSD ,IJ, Fathom ,Spirit 3
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
I like to focus on two at a time though.Any more than that at once and it becomes exhausting.

#4164 4 years ago

Scared Stiff cabinet and head are prepped and ready to prime. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The SS head was built with a floating back panel type of construction so I will not fill that in because it will probably crack during build up. Nothing wrong with it just a choice I make based on different build styles and experience.

$2000 Pinball Life order arrives.
As predicted Fed Ex continues to disappoint.

First of all there is no reason not to put this on the porch. It is hot as hell here.
Second they clearly knew it was busted open

Seems to be all to do with the drivers. We had the worst Fed Ex guy in the world at work, made so many complaints about him. He moved down south and the new guy is incredibly good. Packages are always put inside out of the way. Sucks your guy is so bad.

Hey Chris
Looks like they made the left wooden "stops" for the translight and speaker panel too long when they made the SS backbox. The hinges won't fit. Hope that they didn't glue them in.

I will fix that right now.

If you continuously complain (and I'm assuming others are also if you're having this problem), Fedex will move the driver eventually. I'd complain about every incident. Doesn't happen fast, but it will eventually happen.

In addition to that I have also stripped and prepped the spinners and I have a new bare metal apron to prep as well.
That is the thicker version with the threaded holes.

I drilled small holes in a hidden spot on the HG cabinet to hold the spinners for metal etching then primer since the primers will be the same after the etch.
Apron and shooter cover are fished in there as well.

Went with a slightly darker blue to better match the team uniform and center of the playfield on this one
It isn’t quite as dark as that but not that sky blue like color that is common either

Yes. Jeff is awesome. His stencils are the best. It is rare if ever that I have any issue and if so he always takes care of it.
Turns out on the HGs there isn’t a trap because there are no overlaps.
I measure everything out with a ruler to make sure it is symmetrical down to the 1/16th so I like to have the alignment marks on everything but if he doesn’t use them on some stencils I can understand that and have no problem making my own.

Just how many different (label) micro brew craft beers do you consume in a year?

#4197 4 years ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

Just how many different (label) micro brew craft beers do you consume in a year?

One to two a day usually so 365 to 730 I will guess.
There are some days I skip or occasions where it might be three but I am pretty regiment driven.

Do you run into any you just dump out after first taste?

Nice little corner with Funhouse, Whirlwind, and Earthshaker all lined up. All three were done by Chris. The first two are true prototypes, the Earthshaker a sample. Thanks Chris! Whirlwind looks excellent, as expected.

Not too often since I have settled into the styles I know I like.
Those are porters stouts, barlywine,Belgian triples, quads and certain ales.
Usually avoid really hoppy beers and sours.
I don’t care what it cost though I will pour one out that I hate before I will drink it.
Cost the same either way no point in torturing myself.
