Quoted from High_End_Pins:Battery pack is removed and remoted
One thing requested is LEDs so a LED OCD board is fitted and placed inconspicuously[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Why not just go nvram instead of batteries?
Quoted from Mitch:Why not just go nvram instead of batteries?
I just prefer the remote batteries.
Two wires and done. Nvram is great for people that like to do board work. I keep that to a minimum or send them out to Clive.
STTNG is really clean for its age.
Often these games are like time capsules.
This game was bought in the early 2000s and sat in climate controlled storage until 2014.
It was then sent here the owner went through some personal stuff for a few years then after some prompting on my part decided to sell
I found it a great home and here we are.
The only real detraction on the playfield is the typical shield insert crazing.
Not much can be done about that so a replacement is best cosmetically.
Technically I could refrost them and it would probably look nice but the issue with inserts is light transparency.
What looks nice on a stand on the paint shop might not look as nice fully assembled and lit up.
Only worth doing if no alternative.

Getting down into the playfield. image (resized).jpg
The plastics still have the protective covering on the backside.
Not sure if it has been like that from day one or if at some point long ago they were swapped but I am pretty sure they are the originals.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgCabinet is gutted of all useful parts.
This is a really nice original cabinet.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
I could easily reuse it but there are just a couple minor details that make it not quite worth building the game around.
Mostly the previous holes in the front.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Some chipping there
image (resized).jpg
Broken joint on the head and minor scratches.
Quoted from Mitch:Why not just go nvram instead of batteries?
and isn't there an issue with nvram not keeping time so things like "midnight madness" don't work properly

What type of washer are you using to shim the rails?
I built up a new power box assembly for the STTNG
Now it has a auxiliary outlet and nickel plating
Quoted from Calfdemon:This...
Those are plastic washers.
I like these

Fantastic detail on how you do things Chris. It is so impressive to me.
I'd be happy to have the games you START with, let alone complete!
Keep up the great work! I love seeing this stuff.

4 cabinets in two weeks.

10 of the spots are new cabinets though along with a few finished games and duds that need to go.[quoted image][quoted image]

I am going with a natural style of lighting no plans to colorflood it but I have made some subtle and appropriate changes.
For whatever reason they don’t make these Lane guides in purple so clear should work. Those may require a purple bulb though.

Factory red guides a no-go I take it? I'm also averse to clown puke, but color-bombed that exact area on my Stern Star Trek pro. The lane guides are blue, but it's kind of a light blue and is totally washed out by a white LED, so I went blue there. Not a hindrance to gameplay since it's so far up & out of the way.
This STTNG was really clean so what I do in these cases is I thoroughly clean all the wiring and then desolder and transfer as I go
image (resized).jpg
I will start here removing, rebuilding and replacing each mech.
They will be placed on plugs with color correct wiring.

Yes I want to eliminate the red because that is an all or nothing scheme.
I could frost the cleared in purple but it would not be the same as the translucent post.
If I get it powered up and hate it I will make changes but so far so good.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Thinking 17636.

What about the upper?I know that the Delta ramp can be tough to make. Would the 17636 help there?

Yes, I'd do the 17636 there.

Roll it out tape the overlaps. Pretty simple
I will probably put some trim around the wall edges once the flooring relaxes into place a bit. Not trying to make it a showroom more about functionality.
STTNG is moving along well.
Always nice to get the occasional game in that isn’t a corroded basket case but I enjoy those too
Polishing the sling switches prior to placement.
STTNG uses a side terminal style to clear the cannon motor mechs.

This doesn’t leave a lot of room for thicker wire and tubing on the legs.
I do install a protective sleeve on the wires but the legs must face in

Trough is rebuilt with new opto boards. image (resized).jpg
The factory coils are reworked and reused since they are in nice condition including the wrappers.
I would rather use the originals or replace them instead of using the non sticking wrapper kits.
I am sticking with the 17636 factory flipper coils since they are somewhat rare.
I will add plastic protections where needed and denser target foam.
If I find them to be too strong though I won’t hesitate to swap them out but I want to give them a chance.
Wiring is transferred and will be tightened up and rebuilt as I place it from here image (resized).jpg

Is that a mirco playfield? Are you just using the dimples that come from factory or did you need to use the old playfield to move the dimples around?
Quoted from Elicash:Is that a mirco playfield? Are you just using the dimples that come from factory or did you need to use the old playfield to move the dimples around?
This is a Mirco.
Dimples are fairly accurate on this one. A few adjustments here or there but nothing major.
