Quoted from yancy:

I always assumed those rubber rings were to prevent vibration damage to the lamps, but at the same time that seemed like a far-fetched level of care for a manufacturer. I guess they just didn't wanna stock shorter screws.

IMO, they also did that for ease of assembly. Probably had a team assembling screw/socket/rubber assemblies and putting them in a bin, then the linemen need not worry about steadying a screw as the whole socket assembly was bound together by the rubber.

but add extra parts to the BOM, very strange.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Thanks a lot to the vendor that sold me this lousy crap! It was totally worth what I paid.

Any chance you might share who sold you that lockdown bar? I didn't have the greatest experience when I had TWD power coated and was looking to find someone else for my incoming BM66. I don't want to use whomever sent you that crap.

Yes I think there was more than just one reason since the added rubber increased the cost.
Anti vibration
Pre assembly
Using off the shelf components(in stock screws and rubbers)
Keeps the screw with the socket when servicing in the upright position

Probably some other good ones too but I like the simplicity of the short gold colored screws because it is a bit more fool proof during the swap.

Maybe. New cabinet is being built.
Debating doing a painted cabinet like the Special Whirlwind or sticking with the factory art and decals.

Yessss, can't wait for this one! I really like the original cabinet artwork nice and simple.

No I wish I could but it would but it just lead to more drama.
What I can say is that I bought these already done didn’t have them done.

I do too. ES is a favorite of mine . It is just a fun 80s game.
I wish I could just stencil and paint the factory art but there are likely complications with that.
This era game is tricky because the art is much more simple than the later games but not always quite simple enough to stencil so it becomes a question of accepting a decal for a simple scheme or altering it enough to make it paintable.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
When you are talking about a game like STTNG for example. No question decals!
Cyclone for another.No question stencils!
These late run System 11s can be a gray area.

Curtis is on his third session of the 5x5 StrongLifts program.
This is a great program and app IMO for building a baseline of strength and carefully graduating to higher weights during the process. I think it is worth the extra fee for the enhanced version that gives warm up sets, accessory lifts and plate calculators for beginners.

First he picks his playlist.
By far this is the most painful part of helping him with this. The music he listens to varies so occasionally I can stand a little of it but a lot of it is N this,F that or about who’s got the money, drugs,p***y or guns and all that
And he is actually a really good kid so I can only imagine what is like being young these days?
Anyway don’t know whether to feel sorry for him or me when it comes to that. BA5B2E7E-5875-42A5-A14C-61D8A54D7BFC (resized).jpegBA5B2E7E-5875-42A5-A14C-61D8A54D7BFC (resized).jpeg

Starts with squats
First thing that needs to go are springy shoes. Doing weighted squats with those can be a bad idea. I prefer either dedicated lifting shoes(flat)or being careful and doing them with no shoes on a extra thin and firm yoga mat.

Warm up with empty bar prior to any sets.

Now we add weight per the app that takes all the guess work out of it. Still working on his form but he is improving. Each lift is 5 reps/5 sets hence the name 5x5 with 1:30 to 3:00 of recovery between sets

Now bench press. He has got a slight imbalance on his left arm so I will probably have him use dumbbells on some of his non 5x5 days to try and work that out.

Chris, could you please tell me what kind of screws you use to attach siderails? I've always used nails since that's what the older games I tend to work on had originally, but I like the idea of the rails being more securely attached and easily removable in the future.

I use #4 1/2 inch long pan head wood screws.
These are also used for most jet bumper caps

Materials and supplies are very expensive I think that is something people really can’t appreciate or understand when they talk about what a service like this cost.

If I were going to rank operational expenses besides tooling and equipment which are not as frequent but the most costly I would say it is this
1)Supplies and materials
2)Payroll(just me luckily)
3)Taxes
4)Rent
5)Insurance

What is Curtis' start weight prior to your new workout regime program for him
and what is his target or will you know once he gets there.
Also is he going to go on a diet similar to yours
or will he be eating/drinking the same junk he has been eating for past several years?

Good luck to you both on this endeavour.

He started at 245
No set target yet. Right now the main focus is just to get his form right and making sure he is dedicated and consistent.
If we can do that then the rest should fall in line.
The eating of junk is a real obstacle because that is an addiction and habit. It takes way less effort to eat junk than to eat healthy so I am not pressuring him too much there yet only suggesting or reinforcing that it will be much better to compliment the workouts with proper food choices and needed nutrients.

This is huge right here. It's an uphill battle in the beginning. Routine, routine, routine! You gotta get into a routine. Just moving is a big step for anyone that wants to lose a few pounds. I use to work out. Always had my set routine after work. I followed the P90X slim routine (more focus on cardio with some weight) and counted my calories with a food tracker. Lost 30 pounds in about 4 months, slow and steady and felt strong and did it for a few years. It was great! Then my wife and I had our first daughter, and man did that throw a wrench in everything! Late nights, early mornings, in and out of sleep every few hours at night. The last thing I wanted to do was workout! Dad-bod has now set in and just thinking about working out again is a big no lol.

I hope i can find the motivation again, but right now, it seems so far away! Curtis taking these first few steps and establishing a routine is so important.

This came in with a supplied and previously cleared NOS playfield
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
although I am really not sure it is useable with such a severe warp. A little warp never concerns me but this is extremely warped. Pictures at or may not detail that well enough.

Quoted from meSz:

He isn’t much of a drinker so far which we are thankful for .
I believe he had a life changing night a couple years ago with some Bombay that ended in the wife having to clean the bathroom top to bottom and throw away some underwear
On a big occasion these days he might get a little bottle of Hennessy and take a shot or two nothing crazy

#3424 4 years ago

I have put reverse tension on the NOS TZ playfield and will put it aside while other things go on around here.
If I can get it to a reasonable bow then I will feel comfortable building it up if not I will restore the original or use the Mirco I have after perfecting it.
We will see on that one.

To bad about the supplied PF. I hope it works out. If not, it’ll make a pretty wall hanger.

Quoted from ToucanF16:

Yes I really hope to salvage it.
Often they straighten right out once the rails and parts are placed so I just need to try to get this one in a little more reasonable place before populating it.
If I can’t then I would be really worried that I will place all those parts and it will not flatten out which would totally suck so it isn’t worth the risk at that point.

#3427 4 years ago

The replacement STTNG playfield needs a little work.
This one looks great overall just not quite install ready in the clearcoating department.

Curtis got his workout done today. I am not going to add these everyday but I want to keep him motivated early on in the process.
Knowing he has an audience really seems to help.
Today was HIIT(high intensity interval training)we have to be a little careful with his cardio so it doesn’t zap any of his potential muscle gains but right now we are just attacking the situation from all angles so we can build a baseline of fitness and consistency.
HIIT means you work for a set time all out and get a brief rest between exercises.
In this case we use a 1 minute on 15 second off formula.
25 rounds which equals roughly 30 minutes
Gym boss timer takes the guess work out of it

The STTNG cabinet needed to be drilled for the playfield pivots.
It is a bit of a process but I have a formula and system for it.

First I graph out the measurements and intersections. F124B0FE-157E-410B-B727-AC5BDD95375B (resized).jpegF124B0FE-157E-410B-B727-AC5BDD95375B (resized).jpeg

Going to have a laid back Sunday.
No workouts,no messy work just going to stand in a nice peaceful room and work on assembling my first four Spirits with the pending arrival of the new playfields.

The nice thing about doing four over time is going to be that I start with a assembled reference.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

And then once I get to doing the last one I will be very well versed even without it.

I have already painted a couple cabinets and semi assembled one so I will start with that.

How much of a workout regime do you have scheduled for Maverick;
or is he pretty much self regulated and in good shape.
He is still in puppy mode, but when he settles in to adulthood
hopefully he will remain as much of a character as he is now.

I know with our dog Dewey, we need to do more to motivate him
to get more exercise. Actually it has more to do with motivating myself
to get off my butt to see that he gets more exercise.
We are both getting old, him 13 yrs and me 63 yrs.
Our weights are OK, (probably could lose some, 1to2 lbs for him and 5-8 lbs for me),
but our mobility and flexibility and stamina is what needs work.

#3443 4 years ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

but our mobility and flexibility and stamina is what needs work.

The older you get, the more these three things become the key focus points. Even at the relatively young age of 50 I can feel an increased need for yoga/stretching. As I have watched people around me age, loss of flexibility and mobility has ultimately been what has led to their overall decline in physical ability and enjoyment of life.

Building up the Spirit head.
The locking mech and various brackets on one of these makes for a good bit of measuring and fitting. 275A19B0-BC55-4C2C-9403-51B06256822A (resized).jpeg275A19B0-BC55-4C2C-9403-51B06256822A (resized).jpeg0DBB0B92-9647-4457-A152-D996B33BE4D1 (resized).jpeg0DBB0B92-9647-4457-A152-D996B33BE4D1 (resized).jpeg

Each part needs to be accurately placed in order for everything to fit and work properly.
One thing to be aware of for me is that I had the cabinet heads made with 1/2 mdf backs instead of the flimsy factory 1/4 so all measurements have to be adjusted

The tarnished aluminum grill was metal etched black along with the lock for a nicer look.

Quoted from pinwiztom:

How much of a workout regime do you have scheduled for Maverick;
or is he pretty much self regulated and in good shape.

So far he is in charge of his own fitness and needs no help.
He just finished wrestling mater image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Then decided to interrupt my afternoon nap trying to get me to play toys and getting on the table

Starting this Monday morning off on the right foot.
Workout is done and then there was a knock at the door Fedex!!
My four Spirit playfields have arrived. My patience as well as my customers have paid off.
I sent Mirco the sample about 9 months ago or so.
