Going back to 2010.
Wish me luck.

#2807 7 months ago

I knew I was gonna be jealous. My tspp is not bad (only routed for like a year with some minor button wear) but compared to yours .....

Excellent work as usual

#2808 7 months ago

I think the owner of that TSPP is going to be stoked with the result, it looks sensational!

#2809 7 months ago

Looks amazing! Very sharp.

Just trying to think of what to send you next.

I have a new CV and Totan playfield...

#2810 7 months ago

Now that I see the finished product, the red t-molding totally works. Brings out the flipper buttons, Duff beer can, etc.

#2811 7 months ago

Interesting beer you were trying out there, Chris.

Let me know how it goes.

Seriously man, does that really happen? Does anyone really nitpick on something like that to you?

#2813 7 months ago

Are those black powder coated lock nuts? Those are neat, where do you get something like that?

Back to the special Whirlwind
New plastics are built up.

So the key to restoring a pin like HEP is beer, fish, and the occasional workout session. I’m good on 1 out of 3.

Kidding aside great work on the TSPP. My first pin and still have it.

#2819 7 months ago

Plastics are in place. Just the flipper bats and ramps are left.

No that is just the key to better health to help counter what it takes to restore the games.

#2821 7 months ago

All ramps and plastics are in place on the SWW

I wish. We have to clear our equipment closet out so we can tear it down and build a new one.
Getting that stuff out was easy.
This stuff much harder.

Dry rot and/or not enough space?

#2827 7 months ago
Quoted from lb1:

Not enough space.
This is what the paint room looks like right now as a result of the upcoming updates.
Hopefully I can get that back in order and useable during the new construction.

Mmmm, Alaskan king is so good. One of the benefits in living in greater Seattle area is great seafood, love it!

Love this thread too, every time I open it I’m a step closer to getting my LOTR restored. Soon...

Had a late one last night.
Managed to get the paint room back in order well enough to prime two more cabinets.
TZ and TOM

Cabinets primed last night are now sanded and ready to. Paint.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2831 7 months ago

What do you use for sanding? I assume it is by hand? What is the pad size? Grit?

#2832 7 months ago

I assume it is by hand?

Ohh god, what a nightmare that would be. He has covered it previously in if not this thread, definitely in others. He has a Festool rig he uses and it involves many different grits depending on what you are trying to accomplish and from what starting point you are at.

I think that is for cabinet prep... Not this final block sanding step. I used to have a 2-3' sanding pad for doing car bodies, I'm guessing that he has something like that.

Gotcha. Personally I've never had to block a cab to get it to come out level and smooth using proper techniques but I could see that being a good way to be absolutly sure.

#2835 7 months ago

Chris, I'll bet you can do MM and TZ in your sleep at this point.

#2836 7 months ago

TZ and TOM cabinets are painted and cleared. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Next cabinets to be one will be this lot of Fathoms.

Takes about 10 to 15 minutes for the base coat to flash off before it is ok to clear it.

IJ Cabinet is gutted of all useful parts.

If anyone is interested on the cabinet let me know.
It will include all the gold trim as pictured and mirror blades. Just like itvsets now less the legs.

A decently restored playfield reassembled with crusty and incorrect hardware
Old rubbers and worse.
