The coil was unspooled.
Sleeve trashed.

Drop bank rebuilt new coil and decals.

Love how you use old mixing cups to put nuts and bolts in, been doing that forever. Something my dad started doing a long time ago.
Also some sad news from my neck of the woods. Our paint store is gone
My dad went there before I was even born, and used to take me there all the time when I was little. I will never forget the smell of a auto paint store! And I think the smell of bondo will always be my favorite! Just thought I would share.
Great job as always HEP!

I have worked through most cool assemblies.
There are a lot on this game this is just a fraction but I think there are 16 or more in total with 6 of those being either flippers or flipper style.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

All are rebuilt and individually color correct wired with plugs as I go
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Many were in really poor condition mechanically or just kind of pieced together to keep them going on route most likely.

Flipper could were burnt. No getting the sleeve out of this one. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Flippers rebuilt on plugs as well with new coils.

Could I get a price check on these games or the entire lot.
I am trying to help out the family of a friend and customer that passed away a few months ago.
They are looking to move the collection on
I did the STTNG,Bally Star Trek, and AFM unfortunately he fell ill and passed before he could finish setting them up.

The MM is staying.

The games are located in the coastal NC area.

Also forgot to mention all games not restored are HUO or were NIB including the DE Star Trek which came from a studio executive.

#2707 5 years ago

Nice games very sorry to hear of the passing. I am sure others can help with the values of the games. As you already know something you restored will have a fair bit of additional value added to it.

#2708 5 years ago

I'm sorry you lost a friend Chris.

Thanks.
Many here and in the hobby knew Kirk Perry. He was a very meticulous collector and early advocate for pinball in the post Williams dark days of the hobby much like yourself but with way less time served
https://www.njherald.com/article/20090711/ARTICLE/307119985

The last thing I want to do is turn an unfortunate situation into a money grab but what I would like to do is put a realistic number on the lot or individual games by people that would actually like them and help his widow and family move these into collections or to owners that would enjoy them so they can move on from Kirks pinball obsession.

TSPP cabinet is gutted.
This one has seen some play.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2711 5 years ago

TSPP cabinet is being stripped.
Not too hard honestly. No wonder these show such wear.
Marks are made for future repairs.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2712 5 years ago

Floor has the typical Stern transformer sag.
You can see how the gap increased from the edge to the center.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2713 5 years ago

Center beam is glued and screwed.

Very subtle divot in the underside

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2714 5 years ago

TSPP head stripped. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Floor roughed in sanding clean.

Today we will start the main playfield swap for The TSPP project.
I cleared this NOS playfield a couple of years ago

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

#2716 5 years ago

That was one well used TSPP - that cab is/was rough. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

#2717 5 years ago

TSPP lower cabinet repairs are complete.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The floor won’t sand as clean as I would like so I will Black it out instead to make the most out of that situation.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2718 5 years ago

Ready to prime these cabinets.
They are The TSPP and the new MM

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2719 5 years ago

These will require a good bit of primer so I will make a larger measuring stick and use the soon to be empty can as a mixing cup
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

This primer is 4 to 1 so 4 parts primer 1 part hardner.

In other words when using a flat bottom mixing container for every inch of primer I need 1/4 inch of hardner.
I have numerous mixing cups with formulas but this is being done to use the existing can up and mix a large lot

4inches of primer
1 inches of hardner.

Ahhhhh the old yellow primer. Works well with dusting black for a nice flat sanding job!

Quoted from heni1977:

Yes it does. Went with blue this time.

Ready to sand and prep the TSPP cabinet for paint.

Just a little bit of wood grain to deal with

There looks to be a (restored? by HEP?) GTB EM awaiting set up next to the BLY Star Trek,
do you know what that game is, as you did not list it!

#2725 5 years ago

TSPP cabinet is ready to paint.

How did you deal with all that wood grain?

Yeah, anyone know what that GTB is in post 2705 above?

#2730 5 years ago

The Gottlieb is an Astro
I did not restore it because at that time I did even consider doing EMs so I referred him to Nick(forgetting his last name right now) Who was considered to be the HEP equivalent for EMs.

#2731 5 years ago

That Astro may actually be a Star Trek version.
That was Kirk’s thing. He was Captain Kirk.

So what's your preference on that kind of situation? Keep sanding, or fill with another shot of primer, or filler?

You moved past it quick..

#2733 5 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

You moved past it quick..

There was plenty of primer on there so it sanded out without breaking through.
Had it not additional primer would be the best method to further perfect it.

Time to chill out

I settle in with my beer
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Maverick starts out calm enough. He picks a certain spot where he can keep an eye on mama.

Mama intervenes

He then comes over to the love seat and watches to see if mama is still around.

She is he gives in for now.

Chris do you have a beer cellar? I know a lot of beer folks like alittle age on those big stouts and Belgian Quads.

For me it is hard to leave them alone long enough...

I do not. I do have some small crates that I keep them in. That is in a nice cool dark closet.
Most of the beer I buy is pre aged already.
For instance I will buy old stock of certain styles when I can or Brewer aged releases because trying age beer myself can be challenging without a large stock of it.

Edges are finished on the TSPP cabinet. Interior art is installed image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The bevel is defined around the start button. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Same thing around the coin door.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2740 5 years ago

I didn’t know TSPP decals existed. Looks a hundred times better than the washed out, dithered factory cabinet.

Underside is next. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Feel pretty good about this jet bumper combo.

Looking good Chris. Very excited to get this pin back home.

#2743 5 years ago

Having a tspp I am following this with even greater interest as usual. I am sure I will be very jealous at the end

#2744 5 years ago

TSPP trim was refinished factory style.

I had thought about doing some colored trim or nuclear rails but after doing the cabinet the art looked so nice I didn’t want to cover too much of it up or detract from that.

This allows me to stay with the smaller original rails.

[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

heyy.. we wanted to hear how you finished those edges on such a busy pattern like that!

#2746 5 years ago

TSPP Braided
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Rails,buttons and protectors are placed
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

When it comes to the edges they are sanded then refinished with black everywhere
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Except the places that will show after full assembly.
Those areas are done with similar colors and by filling in the gaps of the art.
It isn’t color for color nor line for line but it gives a nice uniform appearance.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2747 5 years ago

Holy crap. Where did you get these decals? That looks SO much better than the originals. My cabinet is pretty flawless but these are amazing.

#2748 5 years ago

TSPP Playfield wiring is coming along.

#2749 5 years ago

You can really tell the difference from manufacturing ground braid and do it yourself. Always looks cleaner and squared away!

Head is placed on the lower. 6E67F5DD-DF57-40B5-9E5B-6839E3514C09 (resized).jpeg6E67F5DD-DF57-40B5-9E5B-6839E3514C09 (resized).jpeg

I used the nuclear hinges and refinished the perimeter around the cut out with the same paint used on the trim to match it to the rail and define the area. C8C8A356-0236-42F2-B0FC-017856AA488E (resized).jpegC8C8A356-0236-42F2-B0FC-017856AA488E (resized).jpeg
