I am making a new harness for the GI to the transformer.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I have already repinnned and replaced the connector
The style will be different.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The new wires will be doubled at the connector for the transformer so the loops won’t be needed at the header on the board.
Will make for less heat. A total of eight full length wires now in place.

Damn Chris. Those are little details that are so integral to the quality of your work and completely unnoticeable to everyone.

It reminds that the true mark of a craftsmen is attention to detail that nobody will ever see.

I am painting the new playfield rails and old backboard to match the apron which is the lighter shade of blue used on the cabinet not the main color.

Perfect timing.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Not sure if this going to be an upper or a downer so best to sample it early.

#2556 5 years ago

Damn. That was strong!
Had to foil it and put it back up for now.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Need water.

#2557 5 years ago

BTW if you are ever in Ashville for the pinball museum or any other reason and want to grab a beer check out these guys and tell them I sent you. They have a great selection and are very cool.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Took this much water to dilute it. The entire liter. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

My stomach will be sloshing as I clear the rails no doubt.

Cleared.

#2560 5 years ago

While I am out here I am going to prep a spare TZ playfield for another upcoming project.
It was cleared once long ago
Now sanded.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2561 5 years ago

What does the TZ playfield need to be worth using again?
Has a small poke out in the lane exit area.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Typical ball drop damage to the slot inlane.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Gumball exit wear. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

That is it structurally.

#2562 5 years ago

TZ playfield structurally is now sound.

Repairs made with fiberglass. 633F3689-3C1F-4D1F-BAEC-CF82E96636E5 (resized).jpeg633F3689-3C1F-4D1F-BAEC-CF82E96636E5 (resized).jpeg2F028B4B-4003-4AC1-A5E9-2B6A35223FD3 (resized).jpeg2F028B4B-4003-4AC1-A5E9-2B6A35223FD3 (resized).jpeg28743799-4EDA-4CD8-9ACE-E78D06B9B53F (resized).jpeg28743799-4EDA-4CD8-9ACE-E78D06B9B53F (resized).jpeg

Then sanded and shaped. I filled a couple screw holes as well that look a little wallowed out.

Beer is delivered.

#2565 5 years ago

I will paint the wood tones first.
Besides the repairs made things like this warrant a total wood tone repaint.
It won’t be obnoxious or have a bunch of strange patterns faked in it. Just something to mask the discoloring that will ultimately be covered anyway.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2566 5 years ago

Got some of the wood tone cut outs done at a high level.
But it just so happens it’s tuesday and a frog hopped in.
Time to shut it down.
Intricate masking cuts and these things are rarely a good mix. Plus it is like way past quitting time.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2567 5 years ago

Adding the frog to your masking work will definitely make for an interesting final product

Special Whirlwind rails are dry. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

This will be a nice contrast and match both the accents in the inner art.

And also the plastics that will mount on and around them once built.

Chris, amazing work as always.

What do you do with playfields that are replaced? I'm interested in buying some as art.

Quoted from Whitenoise3000:

Thanks
I return them to the owners if requested and if not I use them for templates or occasionally list them for sale after they accumulate to a point of getting in the way.

#2571 5 years ago

Just got my delivery from the HEP bargain basement sale, Thanks Chris!!

#2572 5 years ago

Chris, what type/brand of fiberglass do you use for your playfield repairs?

#2573 5 years ago
Quoted from Dallas_Pin:

Chris, what type/brand of fiberglass do you use for your playfield repairs?

Usually evercoat tiger hair if it is minimal.

If really bad I would probably break out the pure fiberglass resin and mat.

#2574 5 years ago

Managed to finish the cut outs for the TZ donor playfield wood tones then sprayed them.
Just looking to make it look a bit more uniform and show well once assembled.

We’ll see once unmasked what is next.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2575 5 years ago

Much better.

The frosting of the wood tones is minimal as indicated by the cut out. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Next thing will be the red loop.

#2577 5 years ago

Do you use the same on small cabinet repairs?

#2578 5 years ago

Loop is masked and sprayed. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Now unmasked. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I will go over this and do a little detail work by hand then it is ready for the second clear.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2579 5 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Yes that is it. Or it was depending on how you look at it.

So it was prototype?

#2580 5 years ago

TZ is all set for the next clear. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Next I want to prep the IPB CV playfield I am doing as a favor to a friend.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The clear is terrible.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

JTC insert is a mess.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The volt insert sucks.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Pretty sure this was done with a sharpie.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2581 5 years ago
Quoted from Balaraform:

So it was prototype?

No that was just a sample game.
I have a prototype here though.

#2582 5 years ago
Quoted from fossmin:

Do you use the same on small cabinet repairs?

Depending on the size and location of the repair yes.

#2583 5 years ago

Where do you get your beers from? You always seem to have something different.

#2584 5 years ago

Shaved the IPB Cv down to a crater free surface.

Quoted from YZRider926:

Where do you get your beers from? You always seem to have something different.

I hunt around.
I mostly mail order from Bruisin Ales or Craftshack
You pay more but when it comes to beer or fish it all ends up in the sewer anyway.

This was the same Frog that shut me down last night.
Toris the Tyrant but that was after teaming it with the Tuesday beer. Today I pace myself like Richie Cunningham with the small glasses
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

#2586 5 years ago

IPB cv is prepped and ready to mask and paint.
First will be the white in the JTC

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2587 5 years ago

Thanks Chris. Looks like I’m out on the mail order, don’t ship to VA.

#2588 5 years ago
Quoted from YZRider926:

I know VA,PA and few others don’t allow it. Good work around is to find a Pinsider and do beer trades.

#2589 5 years ago

First pass is masked for the IPB Cv

Dave

It is true.
My wife and I have been together since we were in our mid teens.
She is the true definition of a homemaker.
Very rare these days.
She takes care of us I take care of everything else. Everything we do here is old school. It is a way of life from the work to the woman

#2594 5 years ago

Ready to start phase 2 on the Cv
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
There is one problem I text Sandy

The phone is down to 5%, better get that charging or there will be no more beer texts!

Quoted from Pbpins:

Yeah.
I have a charger out here

Even a WiFi satellite.

Last playfield prep is a CPR TAF
I have drilled and dimpled using all HEP experience with this particular playfield. I will now clear.
This has no home and is for sale.

Not a bad idea. Getting into home brewing so was hoping to try some different styles.

#2599 5 years ago

CPR TAF clearcoating done.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2600 5 years ago

IPB CV clear part 1 done.
Will need more work because I can’t do the light blue on the JTC insert without smoothing the white and protecting it first
