Nice beer choices tonight Chris. I am into beer two for the evening but won’t go to three as that would cause me to overpay for things.

I am finding out here on the west coast two interesting phenomena. If I really want something interesting I need to buy a 22 but there are a lot of great day to day drinkable beers in cans now..whoda thunk it.

Today is the wife’s 43 birthday. She is out getting her hair done.
I knew to get the workout over with first thing this morning.
I am going to put this out for fun above all else.
Still pictures do not always capture the moment around here.

This is the workout I threw together for myself real quick this morning.
It is meant to focus primarily on my functional movements and core.
Things that are most beneficial to everyday life not seeing how much weight I can lift, crunch or starve my way to a six pack or how long I can run for.
Those are goals based on other disciplines.
I am really into quality of life and always aim to eat, drink and exercise to enhance that in one way or another.
The workout

What is s slam ball?
It is a ball full of sand that does not bounce the idea is to slam it hard enough to make it bounce and catch it before it hits the ground.

Now that we did that we check our efforts.
For the type of workout it was it was pretty good overall

So there it all is. That is what happens once a day around here in the background or something like it.

The big question is, can anything be done about the hair loss?

#2509 5 years ago
Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

The big question is, can anything be done about the hair loss?

In this day and age I bet it could but for me I don’t even want to get a flu shot let alone let someone hack away at my scalp or wear a rug so I can totally live with it.
Besides what do I need hair for?I already have a lovely wife and a hat if it’s cold outside

#2510 5 years ago

Now I can get back to pinball work.
The special Whirlwind playfield teardown continues. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The lamp harness is off and cleaned.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The solenoid harness is also off and cleaned.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

It is pre pinned for the future connectors.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2511 5 years ago

The switch harness on this game has a set of wires taped off. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The wires are green/red and white/brown

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I will need to look at the manual to see where they should go. It is very possible that with this being a sample game that they do not go to anything.

Will have to wait a minute though because mama is home with bundt cakes.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#2512 5 years ago

Go to the file cabinet and pull the Whirlwind file.
Old school.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
In these files will be manuals pictures etc.
TOM for example. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I like these files way better than looking at pics on the computer or anything else because it is a much easier and quicker visual reference.

#2513 5 years ago

Whirlwind manual shows that the combination of taped off wires intersect at position 9
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

That is not used. Hmm?
Now I am curious if those wires are either present or used on the prototype Whirlwind.
Nope same thing there but taped off
It is in the trough area so I wonder if they initially planned it to be a 4 ball game?image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The prototype originally had a 1 ball sticker that was manually changed to 3

I try to pick themes for my beer choices of the day.
It can be random or inspired by the strangest things.
I hadn’t heard from Bryan in what seemed like quite a while. As soon as I saw him pop in I knew what the beer of the day should be and put it in the fridge.

Been busy today with non pinball stuff but I am ready to start doing something.

My Radical project is in need of the prototype functions.

I located the popper needed.

Looking at the pictures of my previously done Radical Prototype looks like I need a subway of some sort. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Using the manual I can figure out the wiring
Looks to be solenoid 3A
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

That would be controlled by 1P11-4(gru/orn) CPU,Q32 transistor Violet/orange wire. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Wiring that up from head to solenoid is not a problem. Question is will it work in code?

#2534 5 years ago

Looking a little deeper at my last Prototype Radical
I can see more such as wire colors and popper alignment.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I can also see my brothers fat foot (RIP)
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

This picture must be at least twelve or more years old.
I see enough there to understand how to do it mechanically and within wiring.

Looking at the manual this is the same wire combo used for the popper switch so this part should just be a matter of relocation of these wires to the popper switch.

#2538 5 years ago

Now this is cool. Will be watching to see how this turns out. BTW is this added proto feature just a VUK that spits the ball back on the PF or does it do something else?

#2539 5 years ago

The curve in the Dr ramp was to much so the ball was too slow at times.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I had a new WH2o subway at the warehouse
I cut that down and drilled a hole for the popper.
Riveted a left over EATPM deflector bracket and now I have a nice factory looking trough.

I made cuts to clear any bulbs or mechs.

Trough is placed
So is the popper.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Popper is wired to the snake run target bank.
It is the only thing that fires consistently when the switch is activated with the code installed in the game.

I did try wiring per factory and it worked /fired the coil in test mode in the correct spot noted not used but doesn’t register in game play.

I don’t know this game, or the corresponding prototype feature you just fixed, but from the pictures it looks like a great way to destroy the play field. Am I correct in thinking this just fires the ball into the play field in the same spot every time?

It actually feeds and drops on the ramp and the goes to the playfield.
I will definitely put some Mylar down on all ball drops when I am done.
First step was getting in there and working now I will tear it all down and start the true process.

I'd actually rivet a piece of stainless on the ramp at the ball drop location, or that ramp may crack from impacts.....
