Bally, 1998I didn’t understand the function of the guide coat, but the googles has some good explanations. It’s all about getting a perfectly smooth (level) finish. That’s old school auto body stuff from HEPs past life now being applied to pins. 
Well it’s always great for me to learn something new. I think this is a pretty good short video that shows it. Skip over the silly nonsense at the beginning to get to the meat of it.

Perfect day for a quick run.
I have not run for a couple months beside some interval sprints sprinkled in a workout here and there.
First run of the year and first run with my new Vomero 13s

I am 46 so at this age accurate heart rate monitoring is peace of mind.
Placed on a strap and paired with my Apple Watch the Polar monitors are reliable.

Two seemingly brutal miles later I realize how quickly I get out of practice running in the winter.
Not the best times compared to what I normally do in the spring and fall when running more consistently.
I felt kind of clunky and more like the tin man in need of oil but I did do it so sometimes that is what counts most.
Post nutrition for today’s lunch
Oatmeal,cut up chicken breast,steamed carrots and broccoli with avocado.
This is made using plain oats, and low sodium chicken broth instead of water.

Comes in a touch over 400 calories with plenty of healthy nutrients and protein. Very filling as well.
I put these things out here sometimes for anyone interested in what it takes to maintain the most important piece of equipment here at HEP

I cut through the church on the way to the shop.
It may sound a bit morbid but the cemetery always intrigues me a bit.
It is really old and puts a stamp on some of the areas history.

One of the biggest obstacles in traveling to the shop on foot is the road itself.
There are stretches with little shoulder and visibility.

There are also things to consider like your timing
You want to be clear of this pothole anytime a car is coming as they will try to swerve around it.

Needless to say nothing productive has happened but it’s Sunday and I did rebuild a few connectors

My EBD rebuild room is a wreck.
This is one of the things I find very frustrating when using multiple games and processes to build one shining example.

That takes time and doesn’t further the project.
Instead I will work the room clean by building and placing the larger items or those that bring the most clutter and closing out any details needed so I can remove the old parts from the room I have been using for reference.
In this case the old head is target 1

This would make it possible to eliminate target 3 which are numerous displays brackets and boards.
Goal is to permanently eliminate the clutter not just shuffle it around.

Heck I thought they were expensive here in Oregon at $0.75 to$1.00 on average for a medium Avocado (Large are about $1.50 each)
That's one thing I miss about Calif, as they were about half that much.
Bananas here are about $0.59 to 0.69 per lb.
Though dozen Large grade A eggs are cheap here ($0.99 to $1.25 per dozen)
Gala Apples are $0.99 to $1.49 per lb most of the time. Course those are mostly local.

I incorporated the buss tap for the lamp boards into the newly added junction since I had one empty spot.

Get the old head out and start getting the room back.

As is typical in these threads I am slightly amused. Your idea of a "big mess" is about 100X neater than most people's normal work area.

Normally I love everything I see you do but I have to honestly say I like the original art on Whirlwind better than this art package. I don't know exactly why but this art just doesn't do it for me? Maybe I'll like it better when machines is all together but right now I just don't like this as well as the original art.
Regardless - the finish and level of detail is great as always - just not an art package I would want on my machine.
Taking a step back I have to say the black on the Addams Family ramps & stuff made me want to change ours over to black - in my eyes that looked over the top GREAT!

I always know that anytime there is a change from the original some will like it others will not and that is why I rarely ask or respond to opinions.
In this case the owner specifically wanted something different and he wanted it painted “HEP style” not decaled.
The art package was created for me by my friend Jeff Miller/Pinball Pimp and I took that art stencil package and chose my own colors and shading techniques to be complimentary to the original and still work well with the color pallet of the playfield and translite.
This particular Whirlwind isn’t just about building a nice Whirlwind it is about creating a special one.
I definitely have an eye and a sense for these things and without a doubt I personally could not be happier with how it is turning out thus far.
Looks great....but still needs something. The area above the Whirlwind writing on the cabinet is too big, blue, and empty......

I knew you had your reasons for what you did and as I said above it just wasn't "for me" but the workmanship is your typical over the top workmanship. After following your post for several years I have to honestly say this is the first time I have seen something you have done that I didn't love. I know it is personal taste and all that really counts is what you customer thinks so don't worry about what I said earlier. I probably should have just kept that comment to myself but if everyone liked the same thing the world would be a very different place. We are long past Henry Ford's all cars should be painted black and that is why things are not boring. But some people still like black cars!
Keep up the great work & I can't wait to see the next one.

I have done all kinds of things like painting a brand new Mercedes ML 320 camouflage , ghost flames on a old vette,Centaur silver,Fire black and countless other things. All for hire and by request. Not one single time in any of those efforts has it been universally loved or hated. It is just how things go when you deviate from what people are used to.
There are lots of factors and limitations involved in both making the changes and what you can reasonably do also.
I enjoy it.
