TSPP will be interesting. I have never seen one that will be torn down to the detail your are about to do. Have a good new year.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Also heading to the warehouse will be my beer collection as I gear up to take part in Dryuary.
Thread unfollowed.
Just kidding, I could sooner give up beer for a month than the HEP thread. Can't wait to see what the new year brings. Happy 2019 to Chris and all the regular viewers (droolers) here.

I have never tried this Dryuary thing so I have no idea what I am getting involved in.
Whatever it is. That will be tomorrow though.
Happy New Year.

I did it for a year just to see if I could ... It really was no big deal.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Better put something good in the refrigerator too.

That Firestone Anniversary ale is da bomb!
Happy New Year once again
TSPP is unloaded and set up.
Never done one of these before so I will need to take teardown pictures and measurements.
I will also need to study it a bit to come up with a trim color if getting away from the standard black crinkle finish.
Any news on the mirco Spirit pfs? Looking forward to those restorations. Of course I enjoy seeing all your work!

No I sent him a sample months ago and since then he only occasionally answers my inquiries and seems bothered by the question.

Bad move, human...
I cannot stress the importance of applying and understanding the use of guidecoat when trying to make a panel as straight as possible. image (resized).jpg
A banding mark or groove like this cannot be seen in bare wood nor felt. It is only exposed and eliminated through this process

Christ, paint is more expensive than I thought! At least we all have your address now Chris. LMK when my EBD is done and i'll come pick it up

Yes and that is with my discount.
That is my old address. I don’t bother updating it there. Just need something on file.

Pulling a beer or two for The weekend after deciding that Dryuary totally sucks and is not for me.
Had no idea what I was thinking there [quoted image]
I was wondering how long that would last.

I am pretty goal oriented.
I don’t drink too much
Don’t need to lose weight
Don’t need to save money
Don’t need to have a lame January
Since there was no pay off I decided I hated it
Wow Chris, great work as always.
I had no idea paint was that expensive. How much volume of material is that and how many machines would you expect to get out it.
BTW, whose brilliant idea was it to have "Dryuary"...bleh I'm having a beer now.
Dave
Will be watching the Spirit 2 restore closely. Makes me want to start looking for one! How's the PF?

That is enough to paint two cabinets and clear them.
That was just the paint portion though so previous to that there was filler and primer needed and used along with sandpaper, masking tape and masking paper.
It cost about $800 in paint and materials to do one stenciled cabinet using these paints, clears and methods. Not including the cost of the stencils.
That stated there is no way to get this type of final finish any other way.

Playfields on all three Spirits here to be restored are rough.
The entire games are really but that is pretty normal for most games of the era.

Wow Chris. I had no idea. I know you use the highest quality materials but never would have guessed the extent of the cost. The finished product reflects the time and expertise you put into it, but I guess without the highest quality components all that expertise would be wasted or diminished.
Dave
Paint is ridiculously expensive. I picked up some black from Napa and was surprised by the cost, I bet it went up 4x (or more) since the last paint I bought 15-20 years ago. And back then I used fancy pearls and such from House of Kolor, this was just Martin S. black. I'd have to guess what it would cost to paint a car nowadays.
Taking it fairly easy today post midday workout.
Building up EBD 2
Focusing on the head sticking with the 84 board layout since I will be using a 84 playfield with the lamp boards.
image (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpg
I want the game to look traditional but still be the ideal version mechanically.
Also finishing the lamp panel build now that it has a home.
image (resized).jpg
This games inner head wiring needs to be completely gone through and rebuilt before attaching it to the lamp panel
Lots of little connectors were used to make one large one. It is a mess. image (resized).jpg
First step on that just to simplify it will be separating the display portion of the harness from the rest of it.
I just need to make a junction for these twenty wires.
Once I do that I can wire the lamp panel and place it independent from the inner board wiring.
image (resized).jpg
I could use a 24 pin connector. image (resized).jpg
The problem with that is there is already a 24 pin connector in the general vicinity. image (resized).jpg
Instead I will use a 12 and 9 netting me 21 Pins in total and no potential for future error of mixing up connectors.
image (resized).jpgJust about done sorting out and rebuilding the inner head wiring.
This quick set up table is the work station.
image (resized).jpg
On it is everything I need to properly rebuild the harness.
