Dr who playfield is ready to start repaints.

First will be the wood tones.
Needs a little work but mostly looking for a clean uniform look there.
Masked and painted. DEE17CEB-4063-4682-9884-E527D929F279 (resized).jpeg
Unmasked.

I address the cracking in the lane without ruining it 7C658EDD-EF45-4110-AA4B-1CB21DD1B5A0 (resized).jpeg
Next will be the reds.
I paint and rework based on color not shape.
By doing that the colors eventually recreate the shapes.this falls in line with the nature of screen printing.
The one pop bumper nail hole was sunken do I filled it and will redrill. image (resized).jpg
Hi!
Awesome work you do on all your pins.
Question on powder coating metal parts on playfield. Do it last? Have you done it before.
Restoring a Indiana Jones and thinking of doing it myself.
Quoted from lb1:Looking forward to seeing how you handle the half-tone dots!
Wait no longer.
I can only do so much with that but I am well practiced and have a multi step process
It takes a lot of color mixing and overlap to get there.

It will need more work but it is getting closer.

The minor crack in the shooter lane ply is persistent.
image (resized).jpg
The Drs coat could use a little more white pixelation.
image (resized).jpgBut other than that it is pretty close to done.
Some of these coats and sessions are just steps in the process.
Quoted from meSz:It's called the Pinsider Beer Club.
Chris, let me know how that Gulden Draak is. They made a Brewmasters one in whisky barrels that was really good. Never seen the Imperial Stout one (2018 release)!
It is good
What is strange is it is not really a stout in my eyes but a Gulden Draak interpretation of one. Still a strong dark ale overall but stout like.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:I can understand some of it but that risk factor thing and the good verses the bad always confuses me.
Looks like you are in spec on all the numbers.
I'd increase the junk food consumption.

Will do.
image (resized).jpgQuoted from High_End_Pins:Is there a doctor in the house?
Got my blood work back from yesterday’s physical.
I can understand some of it but that risk factor thing and the good verses the bad always confuses me. [quoted image]
Those numbers are fantastic! No concerns whatsoever.
The risk factors at the bottom are just stating what the standard risk factors are for men and women's Total cholesterol/HDL ratio, and you can see that "1/2 risk" starts at 3.4 and your ratio is well below that at 2.5 which is great.
Quoted from setzkor:Cholesterol looks fine. That phone battery on the other hand is unhealthily low.
LOL.. had to look back at that one. Very unhealthy on that battery
Quoted from setzkor:Cholesterol looks fine. That phone battery on the other hand is unhealthily low.
This phones battery last about as long as an ice cube in Death Valley.

Thanks.I can never understand the details of it. What’s good what’s bad. What is better to be over and what needs to be under. How it factors into the total equation.
From the outside looking in the 177 total looks close to peak but then there is the good factored into the bad and it means something about the risk factor. that is what always confuses me.
Quoted from LTG:Start at the 38 second mark.
LTG : )
Love the Curtis Mayfield soundtrack.
Was just listening to that the other day.
Dr Who playfield is now dry also and should need only one more sanding, minor repaint session before shooting the final clear.
image (resized).jpg
The repaints from yesterday match well
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
less the detail to be added to the Drs coat and sharpening of the border work just above the 7 insert.
image (resized).jpg
The crack in the lane ply is filling in.
Quoted from JHPSWE:Hi!

Restoring a Indiana Jones and thinking of doing it myself.
It does seem to last.
I have been using it for several years on wireforms.
This will be a first on the TAFTC ballguides but I do have confidence in it.
chris
could you not use a half-tone dot patterned frisket or template? that would make your life a lot easier
Might be able to.
I tried something like that a few years ago but the dots were too big.
The thing about playfield restoration is each one is unique and rarely a one size fits all approach so that is why it is always just done on the fly as I go.
Sometimes it takes an extra step or two to get there but it just comes with the territory. I like the simplicity of just using what I have and figuring it out because I can control and maintain that from job to job.
Quoted from orangegsx:Did you build a new harness from scratch? Looks great
No I just make new sub harnesses and connections.
Quoted from lb1:Beautiful work on the half-tone dots & jackets. Looks much better than the original in my opinion.
Thanks. I think based on the before pictures I need to spit a little white dotting over what is there but I could live with it as is too.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:The ramp lamp attachment is being done the same way.
There are some concerns to address.
Like the ramp they did all the ugly wiring right in plain sight. [quoted image]
[quoted image]
An all new assembly needs to be made up because there is a lot of corrosion on the sockets.
New parts and wires gathered.
[quoted image]
The new replacement lamp sockets do not have the same length and specs as the originals.
They are shorter and wider. [quoted image]
Because of this they do not fit the plastic as intended or made. They rivet holes do not reach and the holes themselves are not wide enough. [quoted image]
Hey Chris
I believe that the correct 555 socket for TAF is available at PSPA. https://www.pinballspareparts.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=24-8807-1
It is listed on the TAF Parts List along with A-12887 which just appears to be a 24-8807-1 socket and 555 bulb assy.
The pic attached shows one that I ordered from PSPA. 24-8807-1 on the left and the standard replacement available thru other vendors on the right.
Wally
Fresh beer shipment
Thank you Once again James.

Will get back to the TAFTC shortly.
I have started building up new coil assemblies from scratch. The new coils have factory like wrappers so I will stick with those siince they stick much better and easier than the PPS ones.

Thank you Wally
That does look correct.
I will have to grab a small lot of them.
Much easier to have the right part than to have to keep working around the wrong ones.

You are very welcome and Merry Christmas!
Quoted from WolfManCat:You are very welcome and Merry Christmas!
To you as well but I am sure I will be in touch.
On the TAFTC.
The sling style new coil assemblies are in place. image (resized).jpg
Next up will be building some new jet bumper coil assemblies.
This is what was originally there.
Two and a half of the needed five.
image (resized).jpg
This is what we need to make up five new ones.

Busy day today
Heading out of town tomorrow for just s quick day trip.
I have finished the TAFTC lamp harness. image (resized).jpg
All new sockets.image (resized).jpg
The entire GI wiring is new from head to toe I will build a new connector for the driver connection.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgIt’s Christmas Eve and I am back home.
Don’t have a table to sit at
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Nowhere to put my shoes.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
I can barely see the TV
image (resized).jpg
Even Maverick has been relocated.
His little set up is usually where the tree is
Speaking of which.
We had to put up a fence around the tree.
Seems like he considers each ornament a potential toy.
He is plotting a workaround.

One more week to go
My TAFTC is getting closer.
The solenoid harness is almost done.

image (resized).jpg
All the missing parts and pieces have been sourced or created.
This proved to be a little more involved than I initially thought it might be.
For example.
I would look and say it is missing the thing scoop no big deal!
image (resized).jpg
I bought the scoop easy enough but the little brackets that hold the coil in place are pretty specific.
I couldn’t find them so I would have to make my own.
image (resized).jpg
This was the case with a couple of the missing or butchered assemblies but it is all set now. Point being sometimes it is the smallest things that just don’t pop out at you even if you are really well versed.
image (resized).jpgMerry Christmas to you and family, thanks for the education and the great detail that show your art!
Quoted from transprtr4u:Merry Christmas to you and family, thanks for the education and the great detail that show your art!
Quoted from pintechev:Merry Christmas, HEP. Thanks for making these machines live on.
Merry Christmas to you as well.
I am about to make up the HEP eggnog
I am not much on sweets or liquor so only a small batch is needed.
This is a semi local creamery that makes the eggnog base.
I like a mix of cognac(cheap),peppermint schnapps and amaretto. CC146622-0747-4357-AD1C-CF9F36E49540 (resized).jpeg
I make two versions.
Normal strength.

Strong

Don’t mind if I do.
