Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Now the edges are ready to finish.
[quoted image] On a straight black cabinet a oil based paint pen is used.
[quoted image]
The bottom edge is left natural wood for a more authentic look[quoted image][quoted image]

Pure.. cabinet.. PORN

I'd still love to see this done in real time to understand how you manage to sand the decal edge without it wanting to tear/move/buckle

I will do that on the next decaled Cabinet I do.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I do primarily. Spends thousands there and have few issues given the volume.
I been dealing with Marco for almost twenty years and lately it seems like there is an issue with the packing specifically.
Sometimes it is very careless like throwing a coil bracket right in a small box with a DMD cover or putting the wrong parts in the right bags.

I second that. Lately they don’t have it together. I ordered standard spiral side-rail nails and got nails with a tiny head. Called and they promptly sent replacements. Second batch were flat-head spiral nails. Both were labeled correctly on the packages. Call again and was told they are out of the correct nails and I should return the two sets of nails they sent for a refund. They used to be very accurate, but must have new people picking in the warehouse. All orders I get when there are size/style differences are wrong. The new pickers don’t now the product i’m guessing.

I come to pinside every day just for this thread. Can’t wait to see more details on this process since I’m going to be refinishing my BOP cab in the spring.

So many great postings in this thread you sometimes have to check it more than once a day!

Me: I can't believe how fast he can decal a cabinet, that's straight pinball wizardry.
Also Me: Checks thread 30mins later; WTF, why isn't it flipping yet?

Still amazes me how quickly you get things done? And, do you ever take a day off Chris?

#1661 5 years ago
Quoted from Bohdi:

Still amazes me how quickly you get things done? And, do you ever take a day off Chris?

I take a day here or there, vacation and holidays too but I can usually find a way to be productive daily no matter what.
If I get tired of doing one task like say painting then I will focus on rebuild, get tired of cleaning parts then I will prime a cabinet for example.
The main thing is I can make the day as easy or as hard as I want to and I give myself a nice two or three hour midday break daily so it rarely feels like work.

#1662 5 years ago

Before I clean up and get back to some easy work like TAFTC assembly I am going to work towards getting my next EBD cabinet ready to prime and paint.

The corners are a little more subtle than I like do those are filled with fiberglass filler to sharpen them up.

I decided to rework the original hand and chair.
The supplied replacements look nice but weren’t quite right for this project as the scheme unfolds.

Chris, do you have a pop bumpers lamp preference: regarding flat original vs. wires? I’ve seen you do it both ways. And as always, thank you for sharing your craft!

Quoted from smiley:

Thanks I am not as artistic when it comes to some things as I would like but one thing I really have a sense of is color matching and color coordinating. That helps immensely doing this day to day.

Quoted from dmacy:

I generally prefer the flat pop style pop lamp sockets but the quality of them these days is very poor.
Very often the flat styles are breaking off at the stem.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
It is really frustrating especially when it happens towards the end of the build.

The quality of everyday replacement parts from all vendors lately is really bad and getting worse.
Here is another example.
I almost always use new screws when assembling my projects but this latest batch of #6 1/4 inch screws are a nightmare.
They break 90% of the time even with low torque. They are very dull looking as well. I have a large lot of these worthless screws now. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

We are being peddled a lot of junk these days unfortunately and prices regularly increasing.

Too bad you didn’t like the yugwa candy. It’s really pretty good; at least when it’s made fresh. I’m a bit biased, maybe because I lived in S Korea eight years (also, my wife is Korean, we recently celebrate a 30th anniversary)

I liked the texture and airy ness of it but it just wasn’t as sweet as I was expecting for a candy but that is what is fun about the Yum box. Honestly everything this month was at least decent which is rare so we do a voting system.
Sometimes you read the description and think “No way” and it is good others it is like “This will be awesome “ and it is terrible.

I like to see what different members of the family like or don’t.
30 years is awesome. Happy anniversary

Start this week off running the switch harness on the TAFTC

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

What has now become pretty standard procedure on these out of need is installing all new switches.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

And also making those switches universal and easy to deal with in the future by placing on two pin molex connectors.

Time for some exercise and lunch.

Do you not cut around the cabinet protectors and remove the decal under? I have read that it is very important or they will wrinkle?

Quoted from tezting:

I cut around them.
If it is a thin decal then no need to remove the material
If it is a thick decal then removal can be an added protection because the thicker material under the protector I can push against the cut edge.

It's called the Pinsider Beer Club.
