Quoted from LTG:

Was liquid teflon available 26 years ago ?

I guess I meant, why is it still done now?

My old jukebox had thick grease all over the gears. I wiped off everything I could reach without full disassembly, then added a healthy (but still relatively miniscule) amount of liquid teflon. Seems fine.

Again, I'm sure there's a reason it's still done that way, just curious.

#1602 5 years ago

The clear on the hand makes it look like it was lubricated too.

#1603 5 years ago

Just got some parts in from Marco and they have done it again.
I ordered twenty five
1.5 rings but got 2.5 instead.

The bag is of course labeled correctly but contents are wrong.

Every order lately is a pain.

Start shopping at PBL and I believe you will be happier.

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

I do primarily. Spends thousands there and have few issues given the volume.
I been dealing with Marco for almost twenty years and lately it seems like there is an issue with the packing specifically.
Sometimes it is very careless like throwing a coil bracket right in a small box with a DMD cover or putting the wrong parts in the right bags.

#1607 5 years ago

Could be worse though, they could be the hardware supplier from my previous job, sending us mailbox posts with "TOILET" printed on the shipping labels.

#1608 5 years ago

Had the afternoon workout.
I have to say those radiant heaters have really done great in my big building.

Been able to keep it consistently in the mid 60s to low 70s

The way I figured out to kill two birds with one stone was to circulate the radiant heat around by placing my rower next to it during workouts

I can't wait to see the magic you work on that WH20. I havent seen you work on this game. I have one I hope to one day give the 'wanna be HEP' treatment.

Ready to start building the TAFTC ramp up.it requires a new one so that is clear. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I had all parts possible powdercoated.
Should be interesting.

#1617 5 years ago

How the powder coating longevity on the ball guides? Wouldn't you risk getting some ball trails?

#1618 5 years ago

You work incredibly fast, how long do you wait between final paint and the application of clear coat?

#1619 5 years ago
Quoted from lb1:

How the powder coating longevity on the ball guides? Wouldn't you risk getting some ball trails?

We shall see. I think in a low use environment these are going to be perfectly fine. TAF is a small ball guide game and the condition definitely warrants it.
All ball guides develope trails but with these being black they should still wear well and be low maintenance.
I ran the application by my powdercoater and he felt confident as well.

#1620 5 years ago
Quoted from cosmokramer:

You work incredibly fast, how long do you wait between final paint and the application of clear coat?

About fifteen minutes between the base coat and clear coat application.
I use all automotive basecoat clear coats and that is the general flash time.

#1621 5 years ago

Chris,

I would be happy to get half of what you get done in a day done in a week - very impressive for sure. But I was even more impressed with how quickly you replied to my PM this morning. I'll drop that machine to you one day this coming week.

For everyone reading this post I think Chris has actually been keeping a secret. I think he was cloned and there are actually 3 or 4 Chris's doing all that work. I don't see how one well organized guy gets so much done - has time to post & still can answer an email so quickly.

GREAT JOB ON ALL ACCOUNTS CHRIS!

Quoted from too-many-pins:

this is a lie. chris has secretly kidnapped brian kelly and jim mccune and has them held hostage working under duress. both mr. kelly and mr. mccune have been absent on pinside, so this is all the confirmation needed. also, if you notice mr. hutchins is always smiling in his photos. no one in their right mind would be doing that after seeing some of the things that he's documented

I have to agree but there also might be another answer. Maybe he has Santa's Elves working for him. One way or another it is hard to believe how much he gets done in a week and still has time for his family, dog & to post here. I have been amazed for years!

I know this is a lie as Chris can't drink the #$%$@$@ beer that Brian drinks thus he won't allow him in his shop nonetheless work with him!

Maverick gif requested.
It is timely because I had the temp gauge out.
This thing drives Maverick into a frenzy because he loves to chase the red dot on the floor.
We rarely do this because he can get obsessed. He even looks up at the smoke detectors looking for that to Flash it’s occasional red dot.

Just for the record I have done a few machines with powder coat rails, ramps, and wire forms and as I have sold off the machines I have done but I still have one and it’s been Almost 3 years and no wear or ball trail yet. Keep in mind this is home use only.. could be different in a routed environment.

#1637 5 years ago

TAFTC is ready to start reassembly.
First step will be finishing the decal edges.

The edges are sanded not cut.
This makes them cleaner and much more durable.
It also provides the more correct beveling at the bottom edges and natural wood like the factory had.

This is one of the best things and something you just can’t fake when comparing and old cabinet to a new. The underside and edges are much cleaner. 2A2A7158-D44B-4D8B-A119-92A7DE01A2A0 (resized).jpeg2A2A7158-D44B-4D8B-A119-92A7DE01A2A0 (resized).jpeg
T nuts are being installed in the bottom of the cabinet.
This is a bit of a process since it can be tough to fully seat them in the MDF
