Quoted from pzy:

Since you're already vacuum sealing your salmon, have you ever tried sous vide cooking?

Dammit.... I didn't know what this was and I read up on it. Now I have an order into Amazon for $400 for a couple of the machines and containers!

Is this the HEP Dr. Who or Fish Tales?

One side stripped.
Big difference in stripping a vinyl cabinet and a painted or screened one.
[quoted image][quoted image]

How do you strip the vinyl off? Do you just sand it or use a chemical stripper of some sort?

Quoted from Analogkid:

I sand it off.
There have been times in the past that I used chemical strippers but you still end up sanding the glue off so it is a messy extra step.
I will go over it when I strip the head in a bit.

Chris, do you find it's your choice of primer that enables you to get the fine finish without more filler work on the cabinet? I see references to 'high fill' primer, etc but don't see it as often in the non-auto home finishes, etc.

I have a perfect finished surface.. but I really didn't like the amount of work it took to get there. Wondering if the primer type is the deltas

Not really if helps some but primer can only do so much so the perfecting starts at the ground floor.
You have to strip it with proper technique so you don’t make more work for yourself.
You have a straighten it as if there is going to be no primer used at all
By approaching it that way it makes the primers job easier and benefits it best.

The Dr who floor has some rough 45s4A40B9C7-4365-4DD5-AA91-C398B7E387CE (resized).jpeg4A40B9C7-4365-4DD5-AA91-C398B7E387CE (resized).jpeg

All 45s and blocking are removed so I can replace them as needed after I sand the floor clean. C50B1DF0-433F-4F78-BD9D-959BB0CDEA88 (resized).jpegC50B1DF0-433F-4F78-BD9D-959BB0CDEA88 (resized).jpeg

This allows me to really get right up to the walls clean. DA70E2EA-7298-460E-9A8C-ABDF5322B93D (resized).jpegDA70E2EA-7298-460E-9A8C-ABDF5322B93D (resized).jpeg

Now sanded nice and clean.

Yeah, I used heat and the decal came clean, but after sanding, the top surface of the ply would open and become porous.. rather than just smoothing like a solid wood would do. Even at 220 or 300+ grit, it would have these pockets in the surface. It worked a lot more like those red toned 1/4" project panel pieces do.. rather than a solid plywood. I skim coated the thing to fill and flatten, but it was a lot more work vs just the 'spot patch' I see most getting away with. The skim, sand, prime, sand... then still not be happy and prime, sand, sand was more than I really cared for

My other lesson learned was.. if you bother flattening the cabinet... do ALL the surfaces. The places you don't, sure stand out afterwards.. even if they were just factory finish (like front edge of the head, etc)

Thx for taking the time for Q&A along the way Chris

The inside walls are stripped one side at a time. 75F2D6C1-52AB-4295-BADC-78F71C039F0F (resized).jpeg75F2D6C1-52AB-4295-BADC-78F71C039F0F (resized).jpeg

Then the top plate is sanded flat and filled with fiberglass filler

#1414 5 years ago

The filler is sanded image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The new 45s are glued and screwed in the walls and floor image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

The floor was just a little loose near the power switch cut out so that is glued and clamped. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The finish filler work now begins.
This means making the top plate look like it is one with the lower cabinet

Also filling the new 45s and walls.

You have got to love the pickers and packers at Marco.
I ordered a couple last minute parts for my EBD projects and they showed up today.

I already had a full set of horseshoe drops so I just needed the other ones.
So I ordered them
2x right?

I wish I knew how to post a gif here

The trick with animated GIFs on pinside is when you upload the photo, change the attach dialog to 'original size (no rescaling)'. Then GIFs stay intact and will show with animation. Or post to youtube and link

I just picked up a bottle of this earlier. Luckily there was still some up for grabs. I'm sure all the variants were gone on Black Friday. The price on this beer has gotten a kinda crazy but it's always damn tasty.

That was the 2018.
My wife spotted it at the grocery store of all places. They usually have lousy beer selection so I was shocked.

Everything is solid now with the glue, screws and new 45s but I do need to clean up the channeling from the previous loose floor condition. This would be an example of what I want to clean up C392FA4B-039B-48FD-AE5F-C30C72B11235 (resized).jpegC392FA4B-039B-48FD-AE5F-C30C72B11235 (resized).jpeg

Chris, you ever use a glue syringe? I like them as you get the glue deeper down into the cracks.

#1429 5 years ago

Also, glad to see you got some Goose Island .... saves me from sending you a bottle this year

#1430 5 years ago

Now I focus on the head.
When stripping vinyl coated cabinets I use a very aggressive material remover.
It is almost like a grinder but it is designed for woodwork.
2DEC34B4-0FB1-4FD6-977B-582F257DAAC7 (resized).jpeg2DEC34B4-0FB1-4FD6-977B-582F257DAAC7 (resized).jpeg

It cannot be held flat for long or it is designed to shut down with a thermal protection.
It is meant to be held at an angle do that can really chew up bare wood. Knowing this I aim to eliminate as much of the coating as I can quickly without exposing too much bare wood.

I can now more carefully strip and straighten the surface with a more traditional sander. C8B89161-D7DC-4A9D-B907-7A31F8A4993E (resized).jpegC8B89161-D7DC-4A9D-B907-7A31F8A4993E (resized).jpeg

Seeing if these Maverick gifs work. I have many.

One of my favorites is when he both yawns and sneezes in my beer.

I will definitely make one of him rowing the boat
Here he is wrestling with a rage ball that weighs as much as he does.
This is part of the reason we have to anchor him down while I work.
