Back to TAF.
The game is getting a new chair and bracket.
The replacement chair color is way too light. 9F1B9BF5-1FA4-4C45-A7ED-495BAAC7DA88 (resized).jpeg9F1B9BF5-1FA4-4C45-A7ED-495BAAC7DA88 (resized).jpeg

Compared to old.
C105916F-B716-4C40-B78F-64C140155896 (resized).jpegC105916F-B716-4C40-B78F-64C140155896 (resized).jpeg

First I heat it up with a mini heat gun to better shape it.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Next I enlarge the bulb holes. I like these oversized because the sockets can be a tight fit or alignment poor. Oversized gives a bit more variation. 496C0C01-0E9F-4017-91C2-F6CA86C187A5 (resized).jpeg496C0C01-0E9F-4017-91C2-F6CA86C187A5 (resized).jpeg

Next I clean and plastic prime it. F60AF455-F8A4-4007-9BEB-FA927A33F972 (resized).jpegF60AF455-F8A4-4007-9BEB-FA927A33F972 (resized).jpeg

Then I mix up a walnut like metallic shade for the chair.
EFDA6158-391A-4F0B-A768-FFAC8DB06FC2 (resized).jpegEFDA6158-391A-4F0B-A768-FFAC8DB06FC2 (resized).jpeg

It is then lightly based with that shade.

Next it is hand detailed.

#1203 5 years ago

All dry it is compared now to the original.
Should look nice on the game.

A train was also requested

I have some of these around here from take offs over the years. C54F382A-99D6-4CC3-BA04-CDBAD2500F6F (resized).jpegC54F382A-99D6-4CC3-BA04-CDBAD2500F6F (resized).jpeg

I lightly blacked it to look more like a train. 110F32F1-5158-45F8-87A6-921C80B1F903 (resized).jpeg110F32F1-5158-45F8-87A6-921C80B1F903 (resized).jpeg

Then placed. D97D8E4D-E70F-4F97-8E2E-5EE0C29985B7 (resized).jpegD97D8E4D-E70F-4F97-8E2E-5EE0C29985B7 (resized).jpeg

With every little amazing mind-blowing detail I regret more and more not jumping on that STTNG...

#1206 5 years ago

As always, it's fascinating to watch you work. Thanks for continuing to take time to post pics.

#1207 5 years ago

Test fitting and prepping the EBD cabinet.

This involves placing the inner runners. Like the original.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Filing the holes free of paint or filler from the refinishing process

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgand finally checking the playfield fit to verify before getting too far into building it up.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

#1208 5 years ago

The runners are then removed and labeled.

D65767B0-B943-41B3-9415-66F514026E78 (resized).jpegD65767B0-B943-41B3-9415-66F514026E78 (resized).jpeg7E4A21F3-4C81-48E7-8D7D-B6328458D925 (resized).jpeg7E4A21F3-4C81-48E7-8D7D-B6328458D925 (resized).jpeg
They are placed back to back where labeled and blacked out.
CCC847AB-4F94-4025-96E6-C0DFF0C912BF (resized).jpegCCC847AB-4F94-4025-96E6-C0DFF0C912BF (resized).jpeg

My only goal is to blacken them because this will basically stain them and they will be more durable and forgiving when sliding the playfield around.

Runners are now glued and screwed in place. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Quadruple checked with the original
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I always like doing this image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I was only allowed to purchase one of these. Damn beer rules. !!
It is a heavy beer though so it is good thing I am about to call it a day.

Lower EBD is braided.

#1212 5 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Ramp wiring is progressing.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Simple question - can I ask what screws you used to attach the pop bumper caps where there is a plastic on top (e.g top right) ? The extended screws that come with the BriteCaps aren't long enough to screw it all down when the plastic is on top.

I'm currently stuck trying to fit mine.

Thanks in advance, and great work by the way!

Maverick is bugging me to play with the Grinch. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I am running the new transparent bodies so they worked ok with those but a 1 to 1&1/8 inch #4 woodscrew should work also.

Thanks. Do you mean there's a new transparent BriteMods Evo? Or are you referring to your (awesome) transparent green pop bumper bodies?

One or two more things left to finish the TAF up.
I think this has been the longest a TAF has taken me to date less.
It isn’t so much that I am going all out as much as it is just the type of game where everything you touch has some problem. Things you take for granted that will be useable aren’t.

More of that here.
The chair bracket is broken. A34746B9-9F59-4160-B6AB-2DD679896AF8 (resized).jpegA34746B9-9F59-4160-B6AB-2DD679896AF8 (resized).jpeg
E46E07CE-EE5D-4926-A556-E4596FF81E43 (resized).jpegE46E07CE-EE5D-4926-A556-E4596FF81E43 (resized).jpeg

A new one is needed and the sockets are pretty bad so it is unlikely they will survive the transfer.
Parts are gathered to build up a new assembly. 1F3D4759-257F-4A67-80F7-66852AEF9AA7 (resized).jpeg1F3D4759-257F-4A67-80F7-66852AEF9AA7 (resized).jpeg

As was the case when dealing with the ramp lighting the replacement sockets won’t fit as is.
6312C541-C4AC-40CF-9203-EF8446866D3F (resized).jpeg6312C541-C4AC-40CF-9203-EF8446866D3F (resized).jpeg89A0F1C0-403A-410B-B8E2-5EC704071FE0 (resized).jpeg89A0F1C0-403A-410B-B8E2-5EC704071FE0 (resized).jpeg

Unfortunately we are dealing with metal this time around not plastics so enlarging the holes is a bit more involved but has been done.
2B35077C-4809-4AA4-9D27-0DBA2E93B581 (resized).jpeg2B35077C-4809-4AA4-9D27-0DBA2E93B581 (resized).jpeg
Now the sockets fit and are riveted.

BDB537DC-3462-449F-80E4-0939314F26E1 (resized).jpegBDB537DC-3462-449F-80E4-0939314F26E1 (resized).jpeg

Now the assembly is wired.

Clear tubing is used on each leg. The diodes are moved downstream and taken out of this area. 0801B64B-B54A-46D0-8BD7-3E3EDBC65D72 (resized).jpeg0801B64B-B54A-46D0-8BD7-3E3EDBC65D72 (resized).jpeg

Shrink tubing is also used with a small gap so it will flex a little and not be too rigid when installing 32A73EAE-1EBE-4D0E-9BB4-A6760FD47BA6 (resized).jpeg32A73EAE-1EBE-4D0E-9BB4-A6760FD47BA6 (resized).jpeg

Then new legs. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Now fitting the rails.
Stainless was the requested/preferred choice.
I could see doing black as well though
Place the head on there to get an idea.

I'm a henry ford type of guy when it comes to pinball. He once said you can have any color car you want as long as its black. My machines will be as close to stock as possible, except for this start buttom. I'm going to switch over to this color. This looks great.

It all starts with just one change
I like building stock examples too rarely requested these days though.

How do we feel about the Stainless trim on EBD?
I am on the fence.
It is great in many aspects.
1)It is low maintenance
2)if you do the rails and bar you have to do the door, bezel, frame etc
3)there is a nod to originality with the stainless
4) There is some mirroring on the backglass it will tie in with
5)No worries about chipping, tapping or tolerances
6)I can continue on with the project.

Other options
1) Black it out and use a red and black Bally midway decal in the diamond of the door

2) Metal etch and paint the rails and door the with the same gold paint used on the cabinet painting and do a custom 8 ball stencil in the coin door diamond.

Speak now or forever hold you peace !

Should be black.

I agree stainless looks out of place colorwise and texturally.

#1242 5 years ago

I would like to see how the gold looks. Maybe something less than full gloss?

#1243 5 years ago

Black on the side rails and lockdown bar, gold for the door....

#1244 5 years ago

Im not a fan of too much of one color. Black on this game is just too much for my taste.

#1245 5 years ago

The wheels are already turning.

Customer wanted stainless right? I personally prefer the original look. Not that custom touches aren’t nice

#1247 5 years ago
Quoted from Richthofen:

Yes. Owner originally wanted something much different than this altogether though
They gave me some freedom and it is going well.Sometimes the best thing is just to work on it a little detail at a time and see where it goes. Follow your eye and instincts then ask for opinions when it is harder to make the call.
That is a bit of a process though.

#1248 5 years ago

Do you do anything with the weld marks on the lock-down bar?

#1249 5 years ago

I think brass legs, brass rails, lockbar, coindoor, and shooter would really set this apart and truly look like a limited edition pin. It would really complement the color scheme you put down on that cab.

When completed, how many games are played for official testing. ?
