Why not just have more grass / smaller beds?

Mow the grass every week, mulch the gardens once a year....

Made it pretty far with fifteen yards.

Quoted from lb1:

What created the delamination of only one side of the BR's cabinet back? What is hard play with the head weighing on this one side?

That was some form of transit damage. I think the game has had an owner or two since it was done.

Quoted from mollyspub:

Why not just have more grass / smaller beds?

Water restrictions here can make it hard to take good care of a lot of grass so I have it laid out in a way that I can easily maintain and water it.
The beds are big because of the buildings and trees.
There were monster trees there up until a few months ago.
I replanted and patiently await their return.

The original legs are just crimped too tight so I replaced those. [quoted image][quoted image]
No worries on the legs digging in now. [quoted image]

What's the deal with these B/W legs that are crimped too tight. JJP has had issues, too. Is the tool the factory uses to make these wearing out or what?

Not sure but they are cabinet destroyers for sure.

BR is packed and ready for an in person pick up.
Seems like it’s riskier to break one of these down anymore than you need to.

BR is gone.
That was for d0n who I must say ended up being absolutely top shelf to deal with in person.
I have seen that more than a few times in this hobby/business.
Finished my mulching. Two and a half days.
Allow me some glamour shots this is as good as it will look all year.

Onto my slow brewing TZ project. Things are going to speed up now that I have the pieces in place and focus on it.

This is a rough and rusty one.
Even the transistors show light corrosion

Beats the Jim Beam and Jack Daniels that it competes against here.

I have one of those spiral TZ ramps (not installed yet). Are you going original or keeping the spiral ramp?

TZ (JA) translite.
Not good. IMG_6118 (resized).jpegIMG_6118 (resized).jpegIMG_6117 (resized).jpegIMG_6117 (resized).jpegIMG_6116 (resized).jpegIMG_6116 (resized).jpeg

Polished the plastic and rebuilt it with new screws plated hooks and nicer original speakers.

New panel made of plywood.
Will have to wait on the brackets I am running low on plated versions. The IJ nightmare really taxed my spares.

Then there are the boards
Nothing good there.
None match none original to the game.
I will swap all these out less the non original dmd controller for clean serviced boards I would not trust a single one.

Finally getting to the board mounting panel equally disappointing.
Another swap out.
Will have to replace a few clips and all screws.
This is one of the rougher TZs I have seen in quite a while.

The fuses in that one close up image look to be incorrect. This is something that people often forget to check. Sometimes, operators (or even home use owners) will put an incorrectly rated fuse in to keep the machine running.

Since it looks like there is a low voltage display (ColorDMD), you should remove the 3/8A fuses on the DMC board to disable the high voltage section. I'm sure you already know this but it's something useful to know for the general reader of this thread.

Never thought of that. Is there any potential for harm with the high voltage section still running? Thanks @DumbAss!

Quoted from sfspanky:

No harm. You can also leave the transformer secondary J605 disconnected. This will also disable the high voltage section.

Removing the 3/8A fuse in System 11 is more important since the transformer secondary for the high voltage also includes the digital logic transformer secondary and you cannot disconnect that one without rendering the machine dead.

The high voltage section of the DMC (and in the System 11 Power Supply board) is the single biggest generator of heat in the backbox. That 4.7k Ohm 5W resistor can measure hotter than 100C (212F) under normal operation.

DumbAss - Also good to know. Found a Whirlwind to my liking that I hope to get soon. It has the PinLED Alpha display installed. Pull the 3/8 fuse, leave the secondary for the DLT.

#12380 12 months ago
Quoted from sfspanky:

Pull the 3/8 fuse, leave the secondary for the DLT.

Sorry. I wasn't clear enough.

  • For WPC, the display high voltage is a separate connector at J605. This can be disconnected to disable the high voltage circuit.
  • For System 11, the display high voltage is a separate winding but in the same connector as the digital logic. You cannot (easily) separate them. Therefore, it is easiest to just remove the fuse to disable the high voltage circuit.

S11_power_transformer_secondary.jpgS11_power_transformer_secondary.jpg

The fuse is highlighted in red (in the schematic). The yellow/gold box shows that both the high voltage and digital transformer secondary windings use the same connector (3J3).

man I forgot how rough the back of that thing was. I bought it like that from someone local in 2018. It actually was playable until the ball trough switch went bad last year, it's my wifes favorite machine we own so I decided to let Chris do what he does best. The only thing I have done to it was install the spiral ramp and put a daughterboard on it to stop the resets (yeah I know it wasn't a real fix lol).

I'm guessing most of the corrosion/rust was maybe from being in a container coming back into the US? It was a reimport from Germany.

Nickel plated.
Chrome would be a waste and possibly too thick for the clips to fit in again.

Head is assembled and in place.
I swapped the repro dmd board out for a serviced original.

Apron rust is feathered out. I touched up the scratches in the lettering and will try to save the original screened portion.
No hope for that on the shooter cover it was rusted well below the art.
Have a good quality decal for that and I will clear over it later in the process.

Marshall’s 23 today!
He is into Mario this year. Since he doesn’t go to school anymore my wife takes him to the movies often. Last week and again today it was the new Mario movie.

That was a cracker i enjoyed with my granddaughter. Made her a Fish box and she used it for years as one of her favorite things and it formed a connection between us. Such a good movie, with a great good guy/bad guy plot. (he's BEHIND YOU!!!)

Like a Terry Brooks novel.
