This is about. All that is worth salvaging off the old ramp. image (resized).jpg

I will replace all the switches and make a new harness.

I keep licking my lips at those green pops. They look spectacular. I can't wait to see them finished.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

It clears well at the mounting point
[quoted image]
Runs very close at the end when activated though. [quoted image]
Another thing I want to check is the alignment of the divertor with the ramp.
Not ideal.
[quoted image]
The arm is adjusted/bent in a manner that solves both issues.
[quoted image][quoted image]

You just need green pop bumper rings now.

Quoted from j_m_:

scot from (pinrestore.com) is a great guy and has quite a few [must have] items for restorations all in one place

I bought one of his rivet presses which are pretty sweet. The press combined with that third hand rivet tool can handle most all riveting

Getting ready to power up the TAF for the first time.
When a game requires so much rewire from the power box on it can be a little unsettling to plug it in and throw the switch for the first time.
Add the needed replacement boards into the mix and that just makes it worse.

Before I can power up I need just a few more wiring repairs and corrections/additions.

Repairs will be GI

Pinball dojo is starting to get crowded.
This happens when it takes three games and two extra cabinets to work off of.
It is like a five game footprint for now.

Got this one set up.
My goal is to copy all the best details of it for both builds. image (resized).jpg
This is the biggest thing image (resized).jpg

I don’t mind wiring individual sockets obviously but if I could figure out a way to use these on both builds instead it would be nice.

I'm stealing that idea.

You've got a great work ethic.

Thanks for the documentation.

I was asked a couple times about the low profile prop rod holder.

I have lots of these bookcase shims around here having done many TAFs.
Two small holes are drilled.
918CCD5F-99E9-4209-8999-B361CD61F8F4 (resized).jpeg

Then small screws attach it on the backside of the set block.
B7169F65-5EFF-4808-80A7-3B1A98D307D7 (resized).jpeg

It is set to give a slight tension to the prop against the block. 947CF4ED-547F-4C3C-A010-EF141CF3E9BC (resized).jpeg

That is it really. Could be used on almost any game missing the prop holder.

I expect to get the last parts needed for the TAF today.
It isn’t that I don’t plan well in advance but sometimes I decide something might look better or be an improvement as the game assembles so that was the case with TAF as it starts to fall together.
The final hold up is the jet bumper lighting and that means I can’t place the ramp.
Knowing the lights should be here today I can go ahead and put the time into building the new ramp
The guides are regrained and installed with new screws. image (resized).jpg

The gates and brackets are also cleaned and grained or polished with new switches installed. image (resized).jpg

Now I want to make a nice new clean harness for it.
This is the old one. image (resized).jpg
There are really two harnesses.

Caps and lighting are finalized.
I really wanted to do yellow caps but they just show a little too much of the brite cap underneath.

I like the way the green lighting mirrors the swamp lighting across the playfield.

Back to the TAF ramp wiring.

Each feature of the ramp is now individually wired and those wires are grouped by feature and shrink tubed for a cleaner look.
F887546B-83A8-459A-BACD-7B318855A0D7 (resized).jpeg

The flasher legs are insulated with clear tubing so they can’t bend together.

C78C9BFA-2538-4A55-BF88-749953BC5319 (resized).jpeg
#1177 1 year ago

Now the ramp is flipped to map the wiring out and secure it.

Starting at the farthest wiring location and working towards the shortest.
The wiring gets stretched and secured. A2A4DEFB-C369-4D4D-BE48-A8B5AC3AB916 (resized).jpeg
B16C2C23-BE51-4DE6-B590-A4806C056193 (resized).jpeg

There are not really enough provisions in the ramp to best secure the wiring.
So I strategically locate and make them. That being holes to place zip ties.
I avoid making them in the weaker parts of the ramp but with the thickness of the replacement it is not a big concern at all.

This continues through the entire ramp as I go. Pass unders follow the flow of the ramp or cross under things that will best disguise them like switch brackets.

#1180 1 year ago

Next will be condensing all these single wires into groups and then connectors. image (resized).jpg

The original ramp daisy chained everything together right up top in plain sight I prefer to do all this down stream of the harness “behind the scenes”

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#1181 1 year ago

The philosophy is simple enough.
II have 14 wires hereimage (resized).jpg

I only need 9 individual actual connections.
image (resized).jpg

That means I need to tie these two separate in common strands together.
image (resized).jpg

They are too much wire to group and house in a single .62 miles pin so they must tie together upstream of that.
I will stagger the location I do this so it won’t have any potential to short but O strip all four green wires in exactly the same spot.
image (resized).jpg

#1182 1 year ago

All four wires are twisted together and soldered. image (resized).jpg
Three are clipped away. image (resized).jpg

What remains is covered in tubing. image (resized).jpg

That tubing is then shrink tubed to keep it firmly in place.

image (resized).jpg
#1183 1 year ago

The flasher portion is separated from the switch and it is buttoned up.

Compared to the old te new ramp is cleaner and has much more wire to work with which will help when placing it.

#1185 1 year ago

Come clean hustler
Which one would you think is the normal one if you didn’t already know?

image (resized).jpg

#1186 1 year ago

The ramp lamp attachment is being done the same way.
There are some concerns to address.
Like the ramp they did all the ugly wiring right in plain sight. 9BE2C8D2-466A-44DF-B23F-034C55FAEE58 (resized).jpeg
2757FA47-3095-4410-8B69-339F8EC33ED4 (resized).jpeg

An all new assembly needs to be made up because there is a lot of corrosion on the sockets.
New parts and wires gathered.
24CA55C4-3BB9-40C4-857D-7E0F67F381A7 (resized).jpeg

The new replacement lamp sockets do not have the same length and specs as the originals.
They are shorter and wider. 091E815B-79DF-4321-9893-50CEB039A6B0 (resized).jpeg

Because of this they do not fit the plastic as intended or made. They rivet holes do not reach and the holes themselves are not wide enough. 5A2364BB-C444-45D3-A48B-AD6B6ABF1FA3 (resized).jpeg

#1187 1 year ago

The holes must be enlarged.
That is done with a step bit.

603C44F5-D06D-4212-9070-72C46B97A0B9 (resized).jpegB5B5879D-3C74-48D4-8373-7D201E7F19E4 (resized).jpeg
#1188 1 year ago

The assembly is then riveted and wired then shrink tubed to hide it.

The diodes are relocated down stream.

I get asked about this pastiche often.
These come in most plastic sets.
9C1BFE7F-5113-4A4B-820F-FA4F5654B5EE (resized).jpeg

I use some cutting and small brackets plus a little creativity to turn it into something for what I consider a bland transition from the ramp to the wireform.

Only rarely does this actually feel like work these days.
We have a holiday coming up this week so I need to make sure both my workload and waistline are in order so I can enjoy it.
Giving up my rest day and moving it to Thursday.

I'm really liking what your doing color wise on this game. The green and black pops and black rubber throughout with black flipper bats looks absolutely awesome. I'm really liking how you have taken this tread and actually used it to fuel your desire to improve things even more than your norm if thats actually possible. I've been following you for a long while now and these last few games your really pushing with the creative flow and just refining things even further than ever if thats possible.

Beautiful day here so I am going to ruck around while my wife fixes my lunch.

Rucking is a really great way to amp up a simple walk.

You need a special bag in order to do it best and injury free.
This is a rucking bag.
Looks like an ordinary backpack.

The difference is it is very heavy duty and has a specific compartment for special weight plates.
No matter how big or strong you are it is not recommended to go over 35 lbs nor to run with it on.
