Quoted from punkin:

I was the same with the blacked out Judge Dredd, never played it but wanted one.
So i bought a faded one in good nick and got a mate to do the decals etc for me.

Thanks for the inspiration Chris. I just happen to love the game too, and will take it to Pinfest Newcastle in Sept to show it off.

Yup! Another title that I haven't played that I'm fascinated with just because of its appearance.

Quoted from HooperTriplett:

Pretty sure I've never played Earthshaker, but I'm now obsessed with it since seeing a handful of them come through this thread...

I think he has done enough Earthshakers that he could paint that cabinet in his sleep.

I have completed the IJ AY cabinet. Lots of wiring and fixes including building up a brand new lamp panel.

That IJ in black is really growing on me. I may do that to mine when I get to it.

Great cab wiring job Chris. You know how to make it look clean and tight.

Thanks for the inspiration Chris. I just happen to love the game too, and will take it to Pinfest Newcastle in Sept to show it off.

The blacked out JD that Chris did was mine, and I have put 3 NIB pins next to it since getting it back. Nothing wrong with any of the NIB pins, and they are beautiful in their own right, but the JD game just looks to be on a whole different level than even a brand new game. It is that stunning in person....

I remember you hunting one down when mine was being given the HEP treatment and knew you wanted to go black as well. Glad to see you got it done! It looks great!

That's a better-than-new Indy right there! I love that damned pin... and it looks so good when it is minty fresh. Love your work!

You are a very lucky man. I love the look and the gameplay as well. It's getting more play than the TZ that's sitting next to it or the Indie that's on the other side. The pic doesn't show the CPR mirrored backglass that sits in there now.

Two toned the Airborne cabinet.
A little tougher when you need to do the outside first but much easier to cover orange with black than the other way around.

I love that damned pin

Me too.

I have the 2 Simpsons titles, a Party Zone and a Gorgar but Indy is my grail pin (Raiders was my dad and mines fav' film).
I repaired one once and had it at home for a week while I fixed it, what a great week...

And this just makes me drool, bloody amazing work as usual Chris, kudos.

Almost done with IJ AY
It’s been a tough one with a lot of extra steps. Mostly wiring corrosion and that strange apron repair.

those pop bumper lights look really cool, which led are you using lately?

#11368 1 year ago
Quoted from hisokajp:

those pop bumper lights look really cool, which led are you using lately?

Mostly just using comet warm or cool 2smds frosted
I find those do best.
Warm for GI,orange, yellow, flesh tone, red or otherwise heavy art inserts
Cool for blue, green clear or white inserts.
Rarely use any colored ones anymore.
Reason being if the inserts have lettering or art the color bleeds into that.
On space theme or more futuristic looking games sometimes I will use cool in the GI and some colors for inserts.

I'm always amazed at these restorations, and the quality is better than anything else out there that I've seen. Just something always has me curious...How much research goes into the wiring/parts/schematics for all the different pins? It seems like a daunting task to keep it all sorted, not to mention trying to find replacement parts and rare plastics etc...

Lots of research I suppose. I have been doing this for over twenty years so a lot is memorization and investment in having the needed parts and wire that accurately represents the majority of games I see.
Williams,Bally games of pretty much any era are easy for me at this point besides doing the work. Not needing to document study or think too much about those.
Stern games,Capcom,Game Plan ,Gottlieb are a bit harder at times because I see less of them so I have to document and familiarize myself with them as they filter in.
Some I have done enough of to be equally familiar like Pinball Magic,TSPP,Spirit.
The easiest thing is anything I have done before the hardest anything I haven’t.

I'm digging the 2 tone. Is there many games you have done 2 tone?

What a weekend. Ok Don’t ask!
Curtis came out in the shop yesterday and said “Dad!!Something fell on the house!!”

I looked all around and didn’t see anything.

He said. “Check the attic”

Ok. In order to check the attic I need a towel to put down under the pull down step.
Momma keeps the towels in my closet.
Go to open the door and it won’t budge.
This is why!
Been here for twenty plus years. Not a single stud was hit all sheet rock anchors.

I am still working on it.
I just painted and lined the walls with 3/4 Maple and hit all the studs. Don’t have time to deal with a bunch of sheet rock repairs. Too slow.
I painted the trim to clean it up a bit more will place that tomorrow.
Just a quick one day fix. Emergency!

I can’t overlook the occasions that my wife and I had to use that closet for “privacy” and think I could have been smashed having the clunker!

The mint pinball restorations, beer of the day,Workout sessions, Mini bikes some months ago now instant closets. Also being a dad and grandpa your going to start making some of us look like slackers. Your setting up some big standards. Brings a whole lot more to the HEP brand. I can't be the only one wants to see how this closet is going to finish out.

Must be a common thing with couples with kids, I have friends who said they have done the same, lol.

Good patch up job on the closet though, clever.

When I lived with my parents. They went on vacation. I was sitting in my room with our Rottweiler watching a movie. I heard what I thought was someone breaking into our house. Went out to the garage thinking the Rottweiler was behind me. The same thing happened all the shelves had fallen. I laughed and looked back to where I thought the dog was. Nothing, I looked everywhere for that dog. I finally found him scared out of his mind hiding under our desk shaking!

#11397 1 year ago

Ok I finished the closet. Nothing fancy just some good sturdy shelves and a nice solid continuous closet rod.I made the center rod support out of a scrap 2x4 All I have time for on a rarely seen home repair.
Still cost around $900 with free labor.
I like to note these things because it puts it in perspective when you hire people. The biggest expense was 3/4 maple plywood. $85 a sheet then brackets, screws, trim etc.
Now I just need my wife to go through some of this clutter. I am pretty sure I saw some of Curtis’ elementary school homework in there. The man is 24!!!
