IJ cabinet is sanded. Will paint that tomorrow hopefully.

I miss watching your YouTube videos.
You've stopped posting them.

Quoted from Jeffreyjonesbsme:

Not enough interest in those it seems. Most people tend to want something more entertainment based.
I am usually trying to capture the process both in action and thought on the fly as I am doing it.
There really isn’t any time left to sit down and edit it all together in a professional way so I don’t think the videos are good enough as a result.
I will be back on there soon though.

#11004 1 year ago

I love the videos and find them entertaining. I always forget they’re there though since I don’t use YouTube much (due to all the obnoxious commercials and junk). I never think to go check if there are new ones. If you post a link to a new video here I’d always click and watch it.

Maybe it’s more of a visibility problem than a content problem. Checking Pinside is part of my daily routine but YouTube is not.

You could also embed a video feed on your highendpins.com homepage to help. There are other “call to action” opportunities for your homepage as well.

IJ cabinet painted.
Also painted a new set of playfield rails hinges and all the bolts.

Yeah, I like them, too. Just posting the youtube link here will automatically embed it in this thread and improve visibility.

Yes. Here is the Diner jukebox thing. You just can’t get them to look right any other way.

Cool. What’s involved?
I thought about setting up to do it. It is very much in my wheelhouse but I just don’t run into the need for quite often enough.

Oh, no, no. I meant having sent stuff out to be done. It's a whole thing with spray tanks and vacuum tanks and stuff. The place where I take them is very industrial-looking shop with lots of stuff I wouldn't want around my garage. I doubt the employees live past 42 from exposure there.

#11013 1 year ago

I don’t watch a *ton* of YouTube, but paying for premium to get rid of the ads is some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Takes the whole thing from feeling kind of disgusting to being at least usable, if not downright nice. YMMV.

As for restoring the Honda powered Snapper, I could see Chris doing it, but not until it needed something major. But that might be long after we’re all dead!

These are a massive amount of work and detail. Lots of technique goes into shading the lettering. The most difficult part is consistency from one side to the other.

I have to ask why you would put such an insane amount of work into a stencil paint job as opposed to using decals with clear coat?
(maybe you have answered that a million times already, but this one seems like the decals almost match the paint job)
Is this copyright issue?

So true, I just noticed the missing 'W' on the head decals so that might be motivation enough to paint.

There are lots of reasons but the main one is that a properly painted cabinet is going to be much more durable and permanent than a decal.
I rarely decal anything that I could paint. Fortunately my capabilities make many of those paint jobs exclusive to HEP.It is definitely a blessing as well as a curse at times.
To me personally I like the kind of organic nature of it. You could paint ten of these and none would be truly identical. Then you also have the ability to customize color schemes, shading and even add or subtract details.

I think we got our wires crossed a little, but result is the same - West Coast shaped states on both sides (the way it should be).

...and that's yet another reason why he doesn't use decals!

I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually an attempt to keep someone from just ripping the image off their site and straight up attempting to print a set of decals themselves from it.

The only issue with that idea is that the images are so low res, there is no way anyone would want to use them for cabinet art.

Here's the other side... scam sales sites ripping images from elsewhere. And the need to make sure the image is identifiable as coming from a specific site.

Also, you will be AMAZED at what some people consider to be acceptable, printable quality.

I am curious when you are in a position where you had to use decals, did you cover with clear coat? There looks to be mixed opinions on if there is a lasting benefit.
Thanks and amazing work on the color shading on this one

I don’t clear cabinet decals. I have can or could but it just doesn’t add anything to them other than complications.
To do it truly properly you have to plastic prep since essentially that is what a decal is in the eyes of chemistry.
The act of plastic prep will most likely damage the decal ink.
Just properly scuffing them up would likely do that honestly.
People do it all the time by just simply clearing over the decal. It looks impressive if you like full gloss and works in general but if it starts to peel it’s a problem.
If you have a decal that doesn’t run edge to edge then I could see “burying” in clear and that would be a bit more practical.

Various scratches and wear marks. Probably just enough when coupled with the holes to make decals look like the best option.
I can repaint it manually but that is a very slow and much more expensive process.
