Glad to hear Tommy is making music again.
I have done the same thing on that board as well.

BBBB? Sound like a HEP thread
Balls Beer Bikes & Bugs … kidding aside that is a nice looking bugs playfield. Did you restore it as well or was a Nos he had laying around?

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Had to get away from them.
Decided to get the paint shop ready for the better weather and the numerous cabinet paint jobs that are ahead of me.
Changed the oil in my compressor. It’s a rotary screw made in Belgium so parts are hard to get unless you are in that business and expensive.
$400 oil,air filter,oil filter and oil separator.
Labor was free of course. They questioned my ability to service the machine when I contacted the tech department to get the part numbers

If you ever need assistance with your air compressor let me know, that is what I have been doing for 28 years.

Thanks. It seems okay so far. I see a little foaming in the sight glass after it kicks on and back off. Normal?

As are the wiring harnesses. I particularly liked the black tape across the back of the one board.

I am so glad to see this game saved and brought back to better than it's famous glory.

Does that make you an old blow hard? Hah!

Seriously, my now passed father-in-law made it his mission to outfit me with a multitude of tools over the years. One Christmas after we purchased our first house he gifted me a nice large mobile air compressor (it's like a compressor on a dolly). Still running strong 20+ years later, and probably the most used tool I've ever owned.

#10712 2 years ago

Can’t do much with the Diner cab until I make some room so
I have a new cabinet for the FH prototype.
Going to prep that and two ES cabinets to be painted plus a Sorcerer.

Got the prototype FH cabinet ready to prime.
Took some effort.
I have been sitting on this new cabinet for a few years waiting to see if this would ever happen. I had a regular FH cabinet built just in case it went a different direct.
Since it did not.
I plugged the start button recesse

Ready to go. No other differences in terms of cabinet construction or art. Just that.
Tomorrow I will prep the Sorcerer cabinet. Running at about one a day right now on the prep.

I have a new cabinet coming for the Diner. It’s a turd. Trenched at all leg locations and moisture issues. Not going to waste time packing it with fiberglass and trying to get the stains out of particle board. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
It’s not that you can’t it’s just that it won’t ever truly yield the results you can achieve with fresh wood.
Even the lamp panel is falling apart.

Alternate Tommy and Mystic are ready to go.
The Mystic has been finished for about 6 months waiting for a partner to ship it out with just so happened to be tied to that Tommy so it was a long wait and lots of storage for me.
Probably won’t do that again.

You slow down by the day, not the decade Chris.

And you exercise so you are getting younger.

I think I got a year or so grace period after 50 before I had to have my first surgery ever, so it's not a stark change (at least not for me), just a series of small things that add up faster in my experience.

Agree with these guys. For me 53 started the aches n pains. But also Chris prepare yourself as you’ll also switch from beer to liquor (it was bourbon for me). All my life I was a beer drinker then I hit my 50s n found bourbon!

For me, post 50 has meant I have to be more careful physically. I feel like potential for injury has increased and recovery time lengthened. Regular stretching and exercise helps a lot.

Quoted from pinheadpierre:

It seems like each decade of life requires one additional week or month of recovery post injury.
I used to get demolished on my half pipe or motorcycle as a teen and the next day I was good as new.
In my twenties maybe a couple days or so.
Thirties a week.
Early forties a couple weeks.
Late forties a month but usually with lingering issues.
Had to quit lifting heavy weights about three months ago waiting on some aches and pains to subside . Focused on functional fitness since.
Hope to return to it soon but will have to respect my limits.
All complaints aside. There’s only one way to stop the aging process and it’s not good. I will make the best of whatever comes my way.

#10728 2 years ago

Prototype FH cabinet is painted and matte cleared.
Sticking with a nice sloppy factory style overspray on this one to try and keep it a bit more original looking.
Not really something I am into but on these types of jobs it’s what makes the most sense.

For that he is going to need to at least pay shipping.
I had to look it up.
What does that come out to like $500 a shot or something like that?
I could see getting buzzed then overly generous and deciding it “is time to break out the Pappy!”
The next day thinking “What the F*~k was wrong with you last night!”

Water sanded my current Mx projects frame.

Watersanded the Mx frame and associated parts then based then cleared. 80/20 gloss ratio on these close to full gloss but with just a little matte to knock the edge of that off and make it look a little more industrial.
These are extremely difficult to paint and clear well. Could be easy to get too dry or run. Your basically painting a series of tubes pieced together like a puzzle. They tend to twist and turn at times.
All the pitting and roughness have been eliminated. Not a dry spot nor run in sight.

Started working through the mechs starting with the target banks. These are new that I have adapted for System 11.
Made some simple but still better decals for them.

Looks like the orange in the playfield next to that missing gate was touched up as well. Can see the brush marks and the slight overpaint on the black keyline.

I always assumed Diner and Taxi were the same artist because of the character style, but Taxi was a Python game... can't believe I didn't know that

Prepped the Sorcerer cab for the final tweaks and clear.

Based and cleared the trim and well as the final clear on everything.
Same black same clear all in one session so everything will match up perfectly.
This is a 60/40 mix of clear matte so it will gloss down.
I can dial them up or down. Typically I base it off of many factors such as era, art, colors and style.
This is going in the original plus style I call it.

Final sand and polish is done on the Congo Playfield.
This one’s been really tough.
Started out with this.

Can you explain the process on how to fix the saucer ( last pic) ?

Finished with this but honestly I could find 20 or more things to work on. It would just be a total repaint.
Glad to be free of it.
The guy I did it for has been a friend for many years so it was outside of what I would normally take in.
It’s not that I can’t but just that I shouldn’t.

You do some excellent work for sure.

Christopher,
When you are "dialing down" the clear to become more satin or matte. What are you using to do so in the mixture? Is there some sort of a "matte" product? Beautiful work. And that bike frame, I could comb what hair I have in it.

I use a matting agent. It’s a milky looking paste like substance that you add to the clearcoat.
These are brand specific to paint lines and only compatible with certain products so there isn’t really a go to or recommendation I could make.
The more you add the flatter or lower the gloss.
50/50 is pretty much the starting point for a low gloss with a nice sheen.
I typically go 60/40 to 70/30 for most pinball cabinets with the higher number being the gloss lower the matte agent.
The alternate Tommy was done in 80/20 as was the MX frame so while they do look almost full gloss they are actually not quite.
How many coats and how heavy will also play a factor there is an absolute art to it just as much as when you are spraying colors.

Have you ever had customers request 100% gloss? I feel like you'd advise against that but some people are stubborn and I wonder what that would look like.
