Back at it for me.
Working on my SBM project.
Making target banks and micro switch dub assemblies as I tear it down.
Starting to add up. Will go quickly on the back end after this more tedious style of teardown.

Quoted from Pinballer73:Oh wow, flat, smooth & shiny!
To me it is just nice to see one with all the art on it. Soooooooooooooo many Silverball Mania machines are worn to the wood I forgot how nice a nice playfield could look.
Built up the top side pretty far.
Tried a couple post configurations and liked the clears the best.
Same with the pop bumper skirts liked the orange.
Will go with white on the dead bumpers up top had to order some of those. Not something I see often.
Made good progress on that.
Lots of lamps on one of these.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:No but I am pretty sure I did a FH out of that lot and Buds IJ that you saw here in pieces might be from that container too
The old days of the Argentina container games. Still working through them.
Being from Argentina, I am curious to know when was the “argentina containers” and presume it might have been around 1998-200x?
That is about the time arcades died off.
I am sure games were ridiculously cheap then.

Those were in the early to mid 2000s primarily.
The games were extremely rough because I think many were routed outside or not under much cover. Some sat in containers for a long time also.
My best guess is that parts were extremely hard to come by for them so you would see some major hacks to even basic assemblies like flippers and honestly pretty genius workarounds on more game specific parts to keep things going but that led to much to sort out during a thorough restoration.
Yesterday I managed to teardown the SBM head. C64C15D8-FE0D-4FB2-9A39-9F0F544E7811 (resized).jpeg483FC24A-9ADE-4E6B-8469-FF0B077D29FC (resized).jpeg
All the boards are rough and there are some wiring issues to sort out
Tore the lamp panel down. A1E94EB3-8003-430B-A5EA-89812BCC4F6C (resized).jpeg9052EDEB-E741-435E-A49C-4E8337AC808D (resized).jpeg5439CFE6-2F97-4891-9A76-3485904F00CC (resized).jpeg
Stripped that and made some new lamp shields out of maple.
Chris do you find the micro switches more reliable? I still get some occasional rollover misses on my Eight Ball Deluxe. I’m wondering if it’s worth switching them over. Any particular switch you recommend?
I gotta ask, are you tired of a certain title to restore? This is my go to thread every time I launch Pinside. I get a nice charge out of these progress pics.
Wonder if Chris would consider using the pcb led boards instead of all the sockets for the playfield? For these kinds of games it would seem like a slam dunk. Originality is already left behind… and these should make reliability and servicing much easier

Definitely do. It’s much more simplified and it is more reliable ,easier to maintain in my eyes.

It would not hurt my feeling if I don’t see another Centaur but honestly I am thankful for whatever comes my way even if it’s a grind sometimes.

I may try these out at some point. I can see the upside to them but I do like the look of the traditional sockets best.

Or safe cracker!
Happy New Year to you and your family, Chris! Thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge and techniques. You have made me a better pinhead. I really appreciate your approach to life and restoration work.

Thank you for the kind words. Looking forward to 2022. Happy New Year!!
I managed to get the SBM playfield wired some how or another over the last couple days. Primarily out of post holiday boredom I think.
Quoted from Pin_-_K:Crazy weather in Texas too, 73 yesterday and 19 this morning @ 6AM!
On another note, do you have a link or source for the SOF Speaker grill Lionman stencil ?
Terry's going to love it❗
A Happy New Year to all ❗
Thanks. I will check to see where I got that.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Built the door and lamp panel up for the SBM.

Almost makes me want a Silverball Mania, but I feel that way about pretty much all yours when you finish. So good.

whoa... how does one get such a shinny coin door? O_O
Just about done with the SBM.

I think that finish would look awesome on the right pin.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Just waiting on some displays and legs. . I opted for a blue set at the last minute and some chrome legs.

Beautiful work Chris!

Holy Sweet Mother, that is gorgeous.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Almost done building up the SBM cabinet.
I gotta ask...what's typically coming out of that big ole JBL?

Depends on the mood or activity. I have a pretty wide interest and appreciation for music so it could be anything from Hank Thompson to G.B.H
Same here, anything from Courtney Barnett to aussie hip hop to the Bottle Rockets or Grace Jones. Southern American Rock is prominent the last year or so, Dead South etc.
And i listen to music from morning to night, haven't looked at a television for years now.

I gotta say some GBH might inspire a little unnatural roughness on the pin. I still have "Leather, Bristles, No Survivors and Sick Boys" on cassette.
NO REMORSE!! SCREW THE CORPSE!!
Quoted from Sixtieskid:Awesome stuff Chris.....love watching the progress of your work. Cant wait to follow my IJ when you start that .
Pete
