I wish that STTNG was mine.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Two actually from the looks of it .The game is a beast and all the add ons made it that much worse. I just finished packing it up so I will make sure to send two screws with it. Thanks for catching it. [quoted image]

Is there a technical reason the added aux power supply couldn't go between the shaker and the transformer? It's the only reason I could IMAGINE anyone downvoting the amazing job you did on this (because someone did - shocking).

I think the downvote is just a mistake.
The power supply was moved from where I originally mounted it above the shaker because the subway loaders actually would hit it. Amazing how close some things are once the playfield is lowered. Even the cannon motor on the right just barely has clearance from the transformer.
Putting it in the middle is possible but with six wires that’s a bit tougher to hide from that location.
A lot of that type of thing is just personal taste.
I try to mount things to the walls so I can intertwine the added wires into the factory harness

#10204 2 years ago

Wonder how many of us went back to make sure it wasn't our mistake. I know i did.

#10205 2 years ago

Lol…… I did the same thing…….If you have fat hands and fingers it does happen ! They are very close together

Catching up some of what did not get documented yesterday on the TAF project.

Transformer was reworked.

Chris,

I know I'm referring to a very old post here but I hope you might share a bit of your magic. What do you use to (I assume) paint transformer cores? Do you treat for rust (hopefully) before refinishing? Mask the windings and wiring?

Any push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all of your fantastic work!

Now for the TOTAN transformer.
This one is pretty ugly.

This always happens to me. I ask for help then I read more in your thread and find the answer.

Thanks for the great information in this thread!

Tore the playfield down.
Started working on the ramps.

Love the star post lighting. I’ve done this on a couple of my pins, and adds some visual appeal to otherwise dull areas. Although, I never had the cohones to drill a new hole through the playfield to run the wiring.

Pinball center has purple lane guides if you can wait for them to come from Europe:
https://www.pinball.center/en/shop/pinball-parts/playfield-parts/lane-guides/10434/lane-guide-1-3/4-purple-transparent-double-sided-03-8318-10

Pinball life has the purple plastic posts:

Action pinball also has the older EM style ones, but I don't think they will work.

Just about done wiring the SC playfield.
This is always a tough one.
So much crammed into so little space. Especially the jet bumper area.

Kind sir!

On the 2 Centaurs you restored 8 months ago would you have a picture of what this part looks like from the other side? I understand its a ball lock mech for the rail launcher and looking to duplicate it.

Sadly no picture showing the back side of the mech and the lever that extends into the ball trough to stop the balls.

I'll look closer when I get in, might just have missed it on the phone.

Might not have one like that in there I am familiar with the mech and will see if I have a good picture in my private teardown album.

Just curious, what do you do to the metal bits? Ultrasonic cleaner, buff them, ? Or maybe you source new?

I run most of my playfield bits through the ultrasonic cleaner and leave it at that. But often them have staining from years of use and abuse. They’re clean when I’m done, but don’t always look factory fresh…

#10228 2 years ago

Amazing work btw. Truly a level above factory new!

Metal is handle many ways depending on the condition.
All get washed first. Some degreased with solvent based cleaners.
Some parts are hand polished with flitz metal polish
Others may be turned in the drill with that same metal polish.
Much of this metal was done that way then put in a tumbler and run for a couple days.
If something is really pitted or tarnished then it will be nickel plated.
Most of the screws are new that works best where possible.

Quoted from cconway84:

Cpr sent me a WW playfield with no shooter lane switch cut in Jan. I had to cut it with a router.

I think there are a few like that floating around from what I have seen here.
They must have added it to mine later then put something kind of milky looking over it.
I initially just wanted to sand away the look of that. Once I cut through it I discovered the reason for it and did a bit better job of camouflaging it.
What you have there looks good. Nice job.
Overall I am thankful people set up shop and make playfields.

Wow, what a work ethic! I hadn't read this thread in a week, usually check it every day. Scrolling through a week of work, simply amazing what you accomplish. Thanks for sharing.

Opinions wanted on this speaker panel plastic for SOF

I noticed that the original is a Fire panel(556)

Wanting something more specific to the art package on SOF I had /made this change.

It looks perfect overall all things considered but it has very dark looking Cpr backglass so I am trying to decide on it

Kind of a tug-of-war here: do you match the speaker panel to the cabinet art or to the backglass? I'm sure opinions will be split, but my preference is the red/fire when considering the view from the player's perspective vs. the view from an onlooker. Would be perfect if some teal and yellow was worked into the backglass coloring.

Yeah that is the question.
I think the original translite has a lighter look with some teal and white accents but the CPR backglass is very dark and a purplish blue.
I can do either panel though neither seem exactly perfect given the circumstances.

Well, if this pin is a restoration for an actual owner then there is probably only one opinion that matters.

True.
I always like presenting or contemplating alternatives.
What I find though is when they truly work no opinions or inputs are needed it’s just obvious they are an upgrade.
I should already know by now if I need to even ask then it’s probably easier just to stick with the original. Even if it isn’t always ideal it’s the set point. If I can do better that’s great if not no worries.

Wondering what it looks like lit up. It may have a little bit of a different hue when the lights are on.
