It does but it now raises more. I get sand blasted, but what type of metal prep and etching? Are you doing that or are the parts sent out for that?
Mike

Hi Mike.
I covered that many times on here so hopefully you can just search the term metal etch on Pinside and get some insight.I use the phrase pretty often when doing this so it should pull up something useful.
It basically a form of primer made specifically to etch into bare metal.
Once that is done paint will easily bond to that primer so the first step is getting well abraded metal(blasted),clean it so no oils or residue (metal prep a cleaner made for that purpose)then etching(the primer) now its is ready to paint like anything else.
My next step is base coat then clearcoat but you could use an enamel or rattle can also.

Quoted from PinMonk:

UNWANTED INPUT:That shooter rod really needs a custom metal sculpted ball, but short of that, a polished metal round one or the pointed Bally one would fit the theme better. Centaur sniffs at plastic.

Shameless plug.
I made this year's ago..
Also in a highly polished stainless steel ball..

I think the bally shooter rod with the pointed middle fits the theme best, but this would definitely do in a pinch. Anything but plastic.

Have to get some more of these, put the second last one in my new GnRLE last week.

Bad Cats is pretty much done.

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgBeen waiting on a package with the wireform and trim. Was out for delivery all day Saturday. I was able to watch it for hours with the Follow my delivery thing. Never came this way.
Then they changed it about 6pm to “address invalid” which was a total lie.
I couldn’t correct it if I tried since it was already dead on.

Shipping is so painful these days! They are just making things up to cover up the overload and inability they face. Fed ex is the worst.
I have had a two day package stuck in Memphis with no updates at all since 2-16-21. It is really hurting my output.

FedEx has always sucked. Usps and UPS has been great in my area mostly due to having distribution centers right down the road from my house. I feel you pain though. It seems like a crap shoot recently for everyone on shipping.

Pulled one of my Shadow projects.
This one is local the other is for across the country.
I will do each a bit differently.
The local one could really use a new cabinet but I committed to reusing the original for budget sake.Knowing what I do I have to say I kind of regret that though because this cabinet is actually pretty rough.

The issues are mostly moisture and delamination
The stenciling on the bottom will hopefully sand off.No telling what moisture issues lurk inside but I am sure I can deal with it just not ideal at this level. 50A2E158-1268-46AB-BC5B-1CC7BB28B7A7 (resized).jpeg50A2E158-1268-46AB-BC5B-1CC7BB28B7A7 (resized).jpeg

I am sure there is much more but I am going to repair this cabinet and move on. Too late for a new one now.m anyway and honestly nothing I can’t handle just again not the “best” approach.
While it sets I will glue everything I can back together and make sure I have plenty of fiberglass on hand.

Yeah, Fedex is straining under the additional load from businesses fleeing USPS and moving their package volume to Fedex due to Dejoy's sabotage of the USPS system that has Priority Mail 2-3 day packages taking 10-12 days or more with no tracking scans along the way. You're lucky if you even get a departure scan with USPS now, and they lie about when labels were created to try to cover their service failures. Dejoy can't be fired fast enough. He needs to be charged with the federal crimes he committed trying to ruin USPS.

Seeing that Laniel stencil on the bottom of that game brings back memories. Laniel was a huge distributor of anything coin operated in the Montreal to Quebec City to Ottawa area back in the day.

It’s a shame this pin doesn’t get a new cab. The time and money to correct this cab would go a long way towards a pristine new cab...

Quoted from ToucanF16:

It will probably be fine in this case unless I find something I am not comfortable with.
It’s hard to describe what the criteria is but there is not actually a huge difference in labor in terms of reworking an old cabinet verses a new one.
The difference is in the parts side primarily and potential.
A new cabinet is a part that part cost additional money.
Labor to rework a and this is the key *useable *original cabinet or make a new cabinet useable isn’t that much different but on one hand I must pay the cabinet builder on the other hand I do not so the choice when possible or advisable is strictly on the parts side.
There are trade offs for me either way that pretty much equalize one verses the other so the real deciding factor is just the finished product and nothing else.

Chris - i hope your package has arrived - this is affecting everyone. I placed an order with digikey Canada the same day as your order only to find out Canada annexed Minnesota (learned something new) as my order originally started in Minnesota then stalled out in Fargo and now Memphis. I mentioned this to our local pinball tech and he mentioned that he placed an order last week and they delivered it with in 2 days. After getting no where with FedEx i placed an identical order with digikey Friday night and it has arrived here in Nova Scotia already. My original order is still pending delivery with Memphis location and hasn't had an update since the 19th of Feb. It appears they are focusing on recent stuff and letting the old parcels sit.

More rust. Basically this is the type of game where everything needs a bit of extra effort or process to get it to the proper level. Much of this stuff could normally be tumbled or hand polished but with this level of rust it needs plating or replacement. 8F3490FD-FD96-463C-BF43-42D674B347A1 (resized).jpeg8F3490FD-FD96-463C-BF43-42D674B347A1 (resized).jpeg4C59A18E-F10D-4B93-9206-CF65B1237768 (resized).jpeg4C59A18E-F10D-4B93-9206-CF65B1237768 (resized).jpeg

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Let’s update the thread.
First I painted some new Reese Rails for my charcoal and custom Centaur plus a set for The KE Shadow [quoted image]
Continued prepping my Mystic Cabinet. This one is coming along slowly right now. [quoted image]

Chris: could you document and detail your revised playfield cabinet mechanism for us on either the Centaur or Mystic?? I have a Fathom that I'm about to start on and would love to improve the playfield raising mechanism.......thanks!

I decided to match the post up with the thumbscrew for the playfield hold down.I will etch that later. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I have black plastic post just like these but with the force of the battlefield kicker I am not as confident they will hold up so I will convert these A5593204-FD8F-49BB-8347-0B38AEB33A24 (resized).jpegA5593204-FD8F-49BB-8347-0B38AEB33A24 (resized).jpeg

Topside is done with a new black nickel shroud and NOS decal.
Rust and corrosion are gone took much longer than normal because of that. Bare metal parts are a bit easier to deal with than rusted blackened ones. Many more steps involved in reconditioning those.

Looks fantastic Chris. I'm following this build like a hawk. I'm in the midst of a Shadow rebuld right now, and will do my own shortly.

Welded together carrier.

That's a SUPER common break point on The Shadow machines.

Damn dude, that shrink tube trick is slick as fuck.

I give them credit on the welded carrier. It’s ugly af but I’m guessing worked fine. Good that you can replace it, certainly, but I kinda dig it.
