Good thinking
I prepped and epoxy primed the trim for my Centaur.
Also the apron and lamp panel.
I only need one set of trim but I always prep extras just in case or so I can be selective.
Stenciled and second cleared my semi regular Centaur.

Cleared at some point.
Unmasked.
Will work on it a little more along the way but I am settled on the basic scheme.
definitely different, feel like it needs more silver to make the black pop on the sides with the rivet look. but just might be me idk. super cool HEP!
Looks great. I'm wondering is a slightly darker red would make the silver pop more. Also do you build your cabinets or get them from somewhere else?
This is why you didn't want to post progress photo's? People trying to influence you even after you said you didn't want them to?
It's surprising you don't have more competition.

Yeah. I know people can’t resist. I already know exactly what I am doing and how it will go.

Bold color choice. Works beautifully. I am withholding a couple of comments on what I think will finish it off in the spirit of you serving your Muse uninterrupted. Thanks for sharing.
I know this would be a complete pain to do (and you'd have to get the pinball pimp to make you an additional set of stencils), but both of the riders would really pop if you were to be able to fill them in with silver, giving you a black outline just like the centaur logo itself.
Curtis makes all the color and design calls, do not let him tell you guys different.

The backbox looks amazing. I mean, it all looks great. I just particularly dig the red background on those graphics, and the black trim! Chef's kiss.
Between the white Centaur, and now the red Centaur... the original color scheme seems kind of lame now. Great stuff!
Painted the trim for my Centaur
Let that dry overnight and mocked it up a bit before finalizing my scheme.
Even though JM will try to claim influence
He had none I already planned this but the Centaur is much more complex than the skull so I needed the perimeter of it mapped out and leveled first so there won’t be too many colors stacked on top of another.I also have to have to red behind areas I want dangling out solo like the treads and tail.
In order to pull this off is a multi step process. I don’t rely on the stencils exclusively just as a tool to take me as far as they can.
Did all that and mocked it up again before starting on the head.

Red Centaur cleared.
This is still full gloss.
I will tailor the final clear and gloss level in a couple days.
Charcoal Centaur is prepped and final cleared.
Will gloss down and level out as it dries overnight.
Much easier paint job than the red one.
Quoted from pinballinreno:I really like the red!
Now we need a custom red playfield to go with it!
That would be cool!
I realize this observation comes too late in the process, but the rivets art may benefit if modified for the color change on the red cabinet. When it is white on black, the art mimics a reflection on the top of the rivets. It's a nice 3D effect. When printed in black on red, it would present better if it mimicked shadow rather than reflection. Just invert them 180 degrees.
Quoted from ToucanF16:That would be cool!
You could do that CPR colorized one in there!
hi. I just popped back into this thread because I heard that I won some sort of prize for influencing mr. hutchins
Quoted from Pbpins:You could do that CPR colorized one in there!
I think the colored CPR PF would look great in the red cabinet. We'll have to wait and see what Chris does... No matter what, it will be fantastic and over the top!
The red Centaur was sanded and final cleared.
Slightly more gloss on this one about 75/25.
Not full gloss by any means but a little more reflective.
The playfield for the red Centaur was cleared. I don’t have any plans to alter it not the playfield itself. My taste are more simplistic.
I like things that look clean and could be factory trying to strike a balance between what I am used to and what I think at times might look or be better.
I also did a final pass on the trim and then sanded and polished all of it.

HEP u may have addressed this in a earlier post that I missed. What your opinion on cabinet care waxing/cleaning after stenciling and clear coating?
Quoted from eagle18:HEP u may have addressed this in a earlier post that I missed. What your opinion on cabinet care waxing/cleaning after stenciling and clear coating?
Really hard to say since there is such a wide variety of finishes used.
I use autobase and clears so they can be treated like the exterior of a car.
Polish or a little mist auto detailer is about all that is needed to clean it up.
No wax at least not for a year or so if ever.
No chance of fingers rubbing through one of these even after years of use .
