Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Tried that today along with piecing multiple clips together with the iMovie app.
I am trying to just do whatever I can on my phone because there just isn’t enough time in the day to do the work. Document it and turn it into a high production value video series so hopefully what is and can be done with those limitations can be helpful and appreciated.
New video is up.

Horizontal video is much better. Audio was a little quiet, understand the only solution to that is probably an external mic and more work than it's worth. Looking forward to the next installment.

I also thought the video looked great. Sound was fine for me.

In case anyone is looking for the videos, it’s on hep’s YouTube channel. It took me a few minutes to figure out where to find the videos. The location may have been mentioned already and I just missed it.

Cheers,

What's the story on the TMNT? A present to yourself?

Chris, when you are using fiberglass on your cabinets, it looks like it has fiberglass strand in it, and not just resin. Are you purchasing it with fiberglass strand already in the mix or are you cutting up fiberglass mat to mix in?

Great.
I will figure things out and it will get better as we go.
I am not the kind of guy that likes to sit in front of the computer for hours at a time so the challenge right now is figuring out how to do the best I can with the videos without distracting me from the work itself. I just put one up a couple hours ago.
I am not in need of subscribers but it might be best to subscribe to the channel because I don’t want to announce every video I put up in this thread.

I don’t do Instagram,Facebook,Twitter or whatever is the latest thing but I do aim to capture the day or week here pretty well to make the thread a real and true snapshot of HEP this week.
As far as pinball goes it is a daily event here so
I just uploaded a few videos for the TAFTW.

Following along in awe, as usual. I really appreciate you taking the time to document your projects here. It constantly pushes me to improve my own amateur/hobby project processes.

Quick question: what material do you use for masking off large areas like head and cabinet openings? It looks like semi-translucent paper off a roll but I can’t figure out what it is.

3M masking paper.I use white.
They make gold and some other varieties but I like the white because I can see through it.

Cyclopes graduates from the paint shop.
Not too glossy not too flat.
I kept the interior overspray pattern original on this one just carried a touch past the previous pattern to cover the overlap.
The main reason for that was the material used for the floor on this game pulls apart easily with a tape application so I don’t want to get too close with paint and clear and make it bond even more.

More new projects.
Hoping to make short work of this one. It needs to go with a previously finished game I am warehousing until it is done.
That two for one shipping thing can be a thorn in my side sometimes

Thanks.
I just put a few more up.
As much as I try not to cover too much detail it becomes pretty hard to ignore certain aspects so I end up putting a little more out than I want.
Some processes are one shot deals like the screening or decal applications so if I mis speak or get distracted I have to just let it ride.
No worries for me on that end. I am not self conscious.
I know I have a face for radio and a voice more suited for silent movies so hopefully the work stands on its own

Things are looking up for the CFTBL and the Cyclopes now.
We got everything back from powder and plating for those and can start giving them some more attention again.

Chris - as your neighbor, curious to know who you use locally for powder? I’d like to have a batch of parts done on a machine and wanted to see about sourcing locally vs going other routes at premium cost.

#8185 3 years ago

My jaw dropped when I saw him grab that sanding block after the initial sticker swipe. Illuminating and educational moment. The attention to detail makes me feel like I'm not so abnormal. Don't get me wrong I'm nowhere in the ballpark of this man's talent but I would definitely be at home working under him if I were a young man.
The knowledge and pride in the work is unsurpassed. Who doesn't want that?
Remarkable and awe inspiring. I could literally watch this all day long and most likely will.

I thought this was very cool....my process has been trim first then sand later but after seeing this process i will have to try as it eliminates the trimming process all together except holes and such. And sanding the leg holes ....brilliant!
Chris what grit are you using? ....i use 220-400 but looks like you are using something quite a bit coarser.

You can pm me and I will let you know.
I try not to out my local resources here because most of the time I have had to work with them to establish a connection outside of pinball first since most of these guys deal in the automotive world.

I use 120 for the first cuts and beveling the lower edges.
I eventually work the corners to 600 prior to painting or refinishing the edges.

Sorry if I missed this, but for the CFTBL lighted backboard, how does the light from the LED strip pass to the backboard? Is the light shining through or from behind? Is there another area of this thread that breaks down your process for creating this in more detail?

BTW, you have sold me on black legs. They look fantastic.
