Quoted from SkaterVet:

I'm curious....I've never given single vs double vs triple coin slots much thought. I've also never entered more than one coin at a time. Does anyone know why the majority are double? Is it for the aesthetic? Or, is it just in case one coin slot malfunctions? Some other reason?

Way back when it was because you could put nickels, dimes, and quarters in a game, hence the triple slot. Then, when it was just quarters, went to dual on some for fault tolerance. Then the dollar coins came out, so needed a slot for that.

Also, the coins doors can be used in many different countries that may have differing coins available, so maximum flexibility in getting people's spare change is a goal.

The aesthetics wouldn't matter if everyone had been used to the single style. Then multiplies would look weird.

There was no chance in Hell that I was going to get those tags off the head in reusable condition.
I tried everything I could think of and it was a bust.
The nails are about 1 inch long spirals and it dawned on me they dont want you to be able to remove them EVER!
It was the equivalent of trying to remove an aluminum pan that has been nailed to the deck for 35 years.
Eventually you have to decide which one is more valuable the deck or the pan

That is an older Williams EM flipper button center.
Same thing all the way around as the normal System 11 start button but technically that is what it is and where it came from.

#7916 3 months ago

New week making some more progress on the Cyclopes playfield. It is a pretty slow process and a bit of an operation killer honestly but as I have said before. If all I could do is swap playfields and decal cabinets this would not be much of a service or business.

Gray part one and two. There was a bit of overlap there that made splitting it up a better idea. 84DB8A02-0C9D-43B1-AD8B-5CCCDAAAE351 (resized).jpegC8B87699-8F95-40F9-A18B-FA768EA90199 (resized).jpeg

Then red only as needed because the red on this one is very thin in some spots or super transparent over the lighter colors. I might go back later and dial that in more specific to each area but for now I just want to cover the wear and swirl the darker the better in that case since the inserts are wiped out. 695989B7-1FDE-4CF5-88DC-10E8A7B964FD (resized).jpeg

Quoted from radial_head:

Yeah I am left to just fill in the blanks on those inserts for now as a minimal approach but as things progress I may be able to make them a little cleaner looking.
The art style of the playfield makes it much tougher to tell if they are purposely kind of sloppy but the print quality/alignment itself is definitely making it even more challenging.

Raw wood.
I rarely seal the underside of playfields because I am going to brand them.

Clear in this case is used pretty much as a primer since I can’t actually prime the cabinet with a nice high build primer.

Quoted from ToucanF16:

Totally different gameplay (completely different style of rules, one being noticeably better than the other) but the artwork is really what makes HH shine. Very excited to see some photos from this job. Endless little artwork bits have fun with.

I am going to start small on the Haunted House. This is just a straight playfield swap for a local. Not something I normally do but I have done full blown restorations on some of his other games so I can handle this.

Small playfield is built for the HH
No plating and just a little polishing here and there. It is just a swap but still a huge upgrade.
I did replace the lamp sockets rebuild the flippers install new sleeves etc but I can’t turn it into a major project or it will defeat the purpose of the lower price point.

The quick and easy solution to that for this type of project was to blast it then lightly metal etch it. Lightly is important for metal etching it bites better and essentially dyes the metal
It looks good on this playfield and will be durable

Yesterday I made some progress on the main HH playfield swap. Had a couple extra steps
85FA6C86-0D4F-4882-88FE-3396A64BFC05 (resized).jpeg
First was to make a set of playfield rails
I used the blank sticks sold by Pinball Life.
Had to cut the grooves for the arch F966AE7C-2F6A-43BE-9D1C-E37FC30A3A9E (resized).jpeg616DCCB1-4BC7-4332-ACE2-E282A0749A99 (resized).jpeg
Easy enough
F71B01E4-4053-460C-A298-5C8A38AB9601 (resized).jpeg
Transferring all the wire guides was time consuming I ended up grinding them to nail like points and driving them in. It has a lot of these guides so it was slow going.
Using all new screws in the Phillips or hex variety Cleaning parts only and using new sleeves unless it has the wrong or a trashed coilFBC60D7D-4589-46FB-8111-D3E5B2A98E8F (resized).jpegC861B3EA-078D-4464-9C13-4450EC4AE39D (resized).jpeg

Now onto the underside.
How to best turn this 9FAEC58E-6B0A-47A6-96E5-5D2583A0F724 (resized).jpeg
Into that BF2C932F-344F-4C10-BAF0-AFD2378CA59A (resized).jpeg
First I removed the troughs and put them on plugs. 688AE6A1-6073-4D84-9F87-836EDDC8894F (resized).jpeg
Then I removed the flipper mechs and made plugs for those.
I also started working the slings and kicking targets off. These are high current switchestied directly to the coils they fire so it takes a little extra thought and process to isolate and put them on plugs A74009D3-5A23-45C6-B580-6094E4CE7BF4 (resized).jpeg
So I can terminate the switch independent from the coil I make a color correct loop 8ACD4962-6E52-4B9B-AEF7-0A37816AC704 (resized).jpeg
Using a two pin connector I key the coil portion as normal and the switch portion differently

37012FA1-6487-410C-A3AF-58F67BA41D46 (resized).jpeg
Then wire the switch and coil to match up and it can transfer separately. This process will free the harness up best and make running the lighting easier/better from an aggravation standpoint.

Now I just need to put it all back down and solder it in.
I will do the lamp conversion at the U relay also.

#7946 3 months ago
Quoted from ToucanF16:

It would take me over a month to do what you did in one day!

Familiarity coupled with efficiency is really why I can keep most projects moving or manage them in a way to keep the operation as a whole always moving forward.
I finished the underside less the flippers today on one leg.

Did I miss something? Or were you just looking for a challenge?

I say one leg because I went out for a short run and had to limp back home after only 3/4 of a mile.
I was running along at a typical pace when all the sudden I almost fell down.
Instantly my foot and ankle hurt.
I looked back and realized I had landed full stride on a piece of a tree about the size of an apple on the sidewalk that was in the shade. Just didn’t even see it coming up.
Once I hobbled back home I iced it. 358B6CBE-5E5D-45B3-B70B-ADD057875CA2 (resized).jpeg

Right now my ankle is pretty swollen and the outside of my foot is incredibly tender. It hurts to even try to put a sock on.

I ordered some crutches from Amazon and I am sure I will figure out a way to keep working and moving.
For now I am walking with a yardstick 72CE3BC6-D45B-4854-86F7-67F40F70B5CD (resized).jpeg

It is frustrating already just 8 hours in. You never realize how much you use or feel something until your hurt it.

You have nothing without your health.

Yikes, take care of yourself! Elevate that ankle, too.
