ES cabinet starts to evolve.
This is going to be a tough one.
ES moves another color closer.

I don't think I've ever seen this pin with unfaded red. It's always oranges. Looking great.
ES cabinet is cleared
Still have other colors and shading to do but I donβt want to stack too many colors on top of others because it makes shadows in the art and leads to break throughs when sanding.
Good foundation is laid though.
Final clear is done on the F-14 playfield. This one was really problematic with the inserts settling but should be as good as it gets now.
I also blacked out and cleared the HS rails and backboard. I had left these unfinished until I decided which way I wanted them. Natural or black. Black was my choice in the end.

I want to get rid of the light blocking in lane guide set up. image (resized).jpg
A Data East guide will work in its place because it is narrow enough to replace the wire guide portion on the right as well as the steel guide portion on the left.
A Williams guide is too thick I that area.
The DE guide is the one with the screws in it without the small triangle in the lower left corner. That would be ideal if it had that too but I donβt think it will have an impact on the kickback. image (resized).jpg
Since I am doing that I want to add the light as well. 1F42D3BE-4FEB-4B99-AA53-AE05B7436571 (resized).jpeg96F56B4B-D038-4E1B-B23D-BBFE8A939A18 (resized).jpeg

ES cabinet is ready for round two.
This will be yellow and shading.
I am combining the more complex shading of the proto style cabinet with an enhanced version of the production color profile.
This looks like two colors but was actually four to get the desired look.
There might be a line or edge left to tighten up but that is the entire scheme for the head.
So, how long does your paint have to dry before you can mask off and do the next layer. It may just be my perception, but seems like you are knocking out multiple color layers in a very short time.

Are you using frosted LED's in the return lane guides?

Those automotive base paints set up quite fast. 1-2 hours is more than enough time between colors depending on humidity and what speed reducer you use. More importantly is that you clear over base coats before 24 hours.
Christopher is the expert here on this subject. Really like watching his projects come to life.
ES cabinet is cleared again to lock todayβs work down.
From here it should just be a matter of sanding and tightening up edges, lines color and picking a final gloss level.
Set the ES KW game up.
Cosmetically it is pretty ugly but it is actually a fairly nice game mechanically.
People often talk about decals and the durability of them.
I try to paint anything I possibly can but as you can see even in the glory days of screen printed cabinets they still were often done on a poor surface so I wouldnβt hesitate to decal a cabinet these days if done properly with modern protections. It will hold up better than this factory one has.
All the boards match and are fairly clean. I already started pulling them.

They are likely the initials of the person who owns that particular game.

A new summer toy arrived

no no no, you cannot (that I know of) write off a toy!
That is a manual forward momentum generator used for pulling electrical wire from its roll to use in length for assembly of wire harnesses that will be placed into pinball machines while undergoing restoration.
That sounds much deductible.
Quoted from punkin:Machinery is a lot simpler. That's how i claim pinball machines.
Be careful what you post online! IRS loves guys that make it easy for them to catch. Just quietly do what you need to do to keep taxes as low as possible but don't advertise it on the web! Chris isn't making enough money to need write offs anyway - just kidding! But seriously he deserves any toys he buys -- he works plenty hard for plenty of hours and deserves a treat once in a while.
Be safe out there Chris - the way people drive these days I don't feel safe in anything but a truck! And at times I wish the truck was a tank instead!

I usually have the opposite problem.
My accountants seem to have little understanding of my business and itβs expenses so I tend to overpay.
Itβs not their fault it is just hard for them to get.
For about two years I noticed my furniture and office fixtures kept growing in my fixed assets.
I had this line called cabinets and it was like $15k Or so at that time.
I asked WTH!
They said βitβs all those cabinets you keep buying. β
I said βthey are PINBALL cabinets not furniture for the office!!!!!!!!β
Another thing I had an issue with was my Automotive Expenses.
The were listed as $30K or so one year.
I donβt have any auto expenses!
Again βI ask WTH!β
They tell me βOhh thatβs all the money spent at the auto supply placeβ
I say βthat is where I get my paint to paint those cabinets!β
Running a business like this as legitimately as humanly possible is extremely tough sometimes.
After that it was cleared once again in full gloss
I plan on sanding it once more tightening up a couple minor details then doing the final clear later this week.
I also had a local favor called in to slay one more vampire.

I know the feeling! The first time we used a new accountant when filing or taxes for our online business she forgot to include our shipping expenses. I ended up overpaying by about $50k. Thankfully we were able to make adjustments the next couple years to fix it but 30% of my gross income is shipping so it was a crazy expensive mistake that one year.

Not to get into your business but this is exactly why you need a new accountant. I am in the business (and no I am not marketing to you just passing on advice) and can tell you that would never happen at my firm. The first thing an accountant should be doing is asking you questions about your business and your transactions. In order to properly do your work and provide appropriate tax advice they need to understand what you do. No that doesn't mean they need to know how you do your job but they need to grasp the concept of your business and how you not only make money but spend it as well.
I don't bad mouth other accountants or firms but it drives me crazy when I hear/read things like above. It means people aren't talking to their clients and getting to know them. Accounting is a personal service business plain and simple and if you don't get to know your clients or what they do then you aren't doing your job right. Its not just about numbers on a piece of paper.

Yeah. Trust me I have debated getting a new one for years but I finally trained this one and would hate to start all over.
What I figured out to do was just go over every statement(I only have three) and put the category each purchase or check should fall into before I hand it over to them.
Just takes me a couple of minutes once a month and has solved most issues.
If this place were bigger or more lucrative I would definitely demand better though.
HS is just about done.
I did some reconfiguring on the back flashers to clean them up a bit.
