Idk but I think that is my favorite HEP TAF yet!

That thing is saaa-weet! I might as well roll my addams out to the street for the trash man to haul away, I can’t even look at that POS after seeing this one.

I have a new playfield for the IJ.
It’s been here a few months.
When it arrived it looked great.
After sitting on the playfield rack in perfect temperature and humidity ranges the inserts have settled a bit.
Not a surprise at all and it is why I believe in letting them set and then reworking just about the time I am ready to actually use it. 94AC1158-A392-4A9A-B36F-22E888E627B1 (resized).jpeg94AC1158-A392-4A9A-B36F-22E888E627B1 (resized).jpeg

It was sanded flat and recleared
This levels it back out now that the manufacturing process has fully cured.

Somehow Willie look like a vampire. Her tooth/tongue is definitely not according to original art.

Wow, you're totally right! Looks like Mirco tried to make her tongue more visible by removing much of her teeth. He also sharpened the angles of the lines of her upper lip so they're more pointed. The changes totally do make her look like a vampire!

EDIT: Looking at it more, it looks like they used the outline feature of illustrator and didn't hand-tune this because many of the lines on the Mirco one are thicker and longer. Especially the ones on her nose and her laugh lines by her mouth. Too thick, and too long. Really uglied her up.

I see that now that you mention it

Initially I thought the red just had more pop to it but that is definitely something I can correct.
Will need a touch of white there.

Was hoping you could. That's why I put them side by side. If you have a color to match her face it will allow you to thin her lower lip fat outline and soften the pointed edges at the middle of her upper lip. Also put more of a gap between the top of her laugh line and the nostril line that are almost touching due to the lazy auto-outlining Mirco did that made the lines too fat and big compared to the original art. The original has a much more natural-looking gap. Those and putting more teeth visible in her mouth would fix about 70% of the issues.

Sallah is also teeth-challenged. Too much thick black line in his mouth and not enough teeth, so his mouth looks too black on the Mirco one compared to stock.

Yes would be nice if it didn’t need anything but they almost always do.
Still better than repainting half of a blown out one. In the grand scheme of things it comes in at 3/16 of an inch repaint.I might find something else here or there but that is more about comparing to original than if it looks good or not. The Willie flaw now that it is noted cannot be unseen
Kind of reminds me of having to repaint the hat band on Wet Willies hat on the WH2O playfields.
The other details you mention are probably not worth trying to paint because it will just make them more noticeable but hopefully moving forward Mirco can tweak the art a bit if it becomes a sticking point for buyers.
Overall it looks very nice.

IJ cabinet is Radcaled?
The owner was given the options and trade offs. They decided on the Radcals and I had no concerns.
Could not stand to use the front once I mocked it up. So I went with a traditional decal there.
The sides were great and the head as well but the alignment and gaps in the front were terrible and would ruin the entire package.
Main concerns on the front were they run too short and with both button holes already pre cut you can’t perfect alignment.
These are interesting. Never used them before but they have good potential if some minor details are addressed. Nothing I couldn’t work with though. When painting the cabinet I dialed up the gloss to match these.
I was able to sand and bevel just like I normally would and that made much more natural looking edges.

So, I really have a difficult time understanding the uniqueness of Radcals. I hear all about them, but I'm not sure I've see a good comparision. What makes the different/better (according to some). Is it more visible in person? Do they deviate too much from the original to be the choice of a purist?

Like anything it's a matter of preference. If you're a purest then no the RadCals aren't for you. They're very much are visible in person as they have such a high glass finish to them as the artwork is printed on the reverse side of the plastic (forget the exact name of the material). Basically it looks as though you painted the cabinet and then put a few coats of clear-coat on it. If you scratch them, you scratch the plastic and not the artwork.

I have them on my Hobbit and they look really nice. Are they worth the price .... again up to the person buying.

What you should be really questioning is the stack of playfields that Chris has in the back of his photo. The guy is a hoarder and no wonder people are looking for playfields

Did you by chance take any pictures of the front radcal alignment issue? Mine have the same problem, Mirco is willing to help, just needs some pictures. I folded mine back up to finish an Addams.

Yes.
They would have run about an 1/8 inch or more short but what was worse is that the art didn’t match up or align.
On the left side the straight red line is much fatter than both the cabinets side one the right side front.
It just doesn’t match up to anything else for some reason.
Even if it did though I think the edges on the corners would be too thick and sharp.
These seem to work well on flat surfaces like the sides and head but meeting corners are a problem.
The decal front and beveling worked well for me but I wouldn’t want to deal with these too often.
Rather paint or decal because any work saved in prep seems to be reinvested in cutting holes or trying to get better alignment.

wasn't WMS IJ the most HEP-ed restore title? should be after this!

#7282 3 years ago

Yep. Three.
Then two ES
After that I think I am caught up on duplicates but I have lots of individual titles.
Everything from Knockout and C37 to Tron and The Big Lebowski.
Always have a good variety here.

#7283 3 years ago

Looking forward to the Knockout... older titles are my favourite to follow.

Forwarded the pictures to Mirco, I ran into the same problem. I folded my IJ back up. I would like to take advantage of the buy (3) get (1) free on the IJ’s. I will drop it off tomorrow, assume it will be ready by the weekend? LOL.

Same issue with mine. Micro is supposed to send me one without the holes cut when he returns from vacation.

First Monday in a while that doesn’t involve TAFs
I am starting to rework the HS cabinet wiring and get it in place.
There’s a lot going on there with the shaker motor and just the sloppy nature of the factory wiring.

The IJ KE project is just about gutted.
The rust and corrosion on it is very bad.
Will definitely need extra parts, processes and effort to overcome

Also found on the IJ KE game are wiring splices and butt connectors.
All sockets are rusted or corroded as well.

What a mess, you have your work cut out for you. Fortunately that is not super difficult as long as someone did not get creative with re-wiring things that should not be.

The solenoid harness for the IJ KE game has been reworked with new connectors and all new flashed sockets that have short protections on the positive leads.
These were built into the harness as sub assemblies because in addition to the hacks that needed to be removed IJ tends to have a lot of areas where wiring runs shorter or tighter than I would like.

HS cabinet is wired.
This took quite a bit. Lots of extras here with the shaker and LED OCD

Now I am going to drink my tasty beer and build up the new lamp panel.
Thanks again Dean.

High_End_Pins Have you ever used picture hanging wire as earth braiding on the playfield?

I’ve just used it on mine as I wasn’t able to source any “pinball earth braiding” locally. It seems to solder fine and is a very similar gauge to the original. Wondering whether the metal (possible stainless steel) will be ok to use.

I have used that before. I prefer insulated wire though because it is less likely to short.
My best guess is that in a factory setting bare wire is much quicker and easier to deal with since they don’t have to strip it at the contact points to solder.

Mama made a huge pan of spaghetti.
I slow cooked some beef shanks and we all ate pretty damn good for a Tuesday night.
