The Festool paper is good for all the rough grits up to 400
From 400 on 3M is preferred.

I turn the dust collection off when using those.
When it comes to final grits and fine work I do not like holes in the paper I prefer truly solid and flat papers. Holes leave gaps for uneven sanding and debris that could scratch a more finesse based finish.
On the lower grits(600 or less) holes and dust collection are more desire and needed.

That is an artistic choice I make sometimes out of need.
On these TAFs one in particular the ballguides were trashed.
I was able to straighten them but once stainless is gouged it is impossible to get it back to perfect.
The shapes and inability to really get into tight spaces made powder the best choice to get everything looking nice again.
Black was the color of choice for these.
How does the power-coating on the ball rails hold up over time?
I would be afraid that it would start wearing off after some number of plays. Or do you assume that these "showpiece" machines will not get that much actual play?
I'm curious how they'll hold up as well. Last year at TPF someone had a wireform ramp on a game that was powder coated.. by the end there was a TON of powder coat that had chipped off and there was powder coat dust everywhere. I like the look it can give occasionally but now am hesitant to do it to my machines after seeing that.

Holds up great or else I wouldn’t even consider it.
I can’t assume they will get played or not played any certain amount of time because that is more of an individual thing.
Some play them to death others barely turn them on.
The key is it needs to be quality powder coating with proper prep. I also stick with black single stage finish’s because it is simple,covers well and easily maintained. The more complex colors require extra coatings and have more problems typically.
I have had legs done poorly that chipped the minute I bolted them on.
I have also had wireforms done that I later had to tweak with a hammer without a issue.You couldn’t chip if you tried.
If something is going to be problematic I will spot it during the build.

Sounds like a bad powdercoating job. For ball guides, powdercoating holds up great. Less dust than grained stainless. Never done wireforms though. For the least amount of dust polish the guides to a mirror finish. AMAZINGLY durable, and they look great.
TAF JS underside is evolving
All new lamp sockets.
All of those are being wire color correct onto sub harnesses.

Did you find a supplier with better quality? Are you still reinforicing them with solder before install?

Yeah I still use those on some builds when I need a low profile socket depending on what lighting and cap I have in mind.
Not my preferred socket right now though because while they do seem to be improved a little I still don’t trust them without reinforcing.

Yes. This is my cruising bike.
When I ride it I feel like I am 14 heading to the 7-11 
The 24 inch Skyways are cool but are sketchy as hell when it comes to braking which is why it’s just a cruiser. Laid back seat post Billet hubs. Lineage cranks
I built a 20 inch from the ground up but ended up giving it away to a kid in need.
Looking at it up on a shelf seemed like a waste.

One thing that was requested was to convert the flipper button leaf switches to the Opto board version. image (resized).jpg
Not too complicated I will make a sub harness add 12volts and this will make it interchangeable with the original set up.

Interesting idea to use spring steel to make the plastic interruptors less limp. Are those available somewhere or do they have to be custom cut?

These were factory on the later games somewhere around the WPC 95s I believe.

Installed a shorter prop rod and made a catch for it that keeps it tight to the cabinet.
On TAF the prop rod really gets in the way and is often bent up the thing kick out scoop. They must have sensed the problem at some point because TAF does use thinner side set blocks coming in at 1/2 an inch compared to the usual 3/4.
Rather than just omitting it I proofread it with other general pinball parts.

Managed to get the TAF JS outside for final pictures in between rain showers.
In my haste to do that I didn't have a lot of time to detail it prior to so there might be a smudge or touch up left off but nothing I noticed off hand.

Does anyone know why the pictures have been loading upside down lately and if there is a fix?

That is probably the most beautiful AF I have seen. It's gorgeous Chris. Black trim on so many machines looks incredible. Especially on this one with the black ramps.
It is beautiful. I like the color choices for the flasher domes. I really appreciate the photos with them plugged in and on as they’re intended to be. I understand the lights may obscure some of the details in the photos when on.

The neighbors are pretty much used to it.
I only have one directly beside me and when I was taking pictures yesterday he yelled from the mailbox asking “Is that the one with the little pinball in it?!”
After a couple seconds we determined he was talking about Munsters and luckily we moved on.
Can be painful and uncomfortable at times.
Not that I can’t understand the curiosity but it usually comes down to confusion or somehow or another becomes about video games or other things not really related.
Other times it’s “I know someone that does the exact same thing” 
The best interaction I had was a few years ago when I was finishing up Krull we were having some concrete work done.
The owner of the concrete company comes in takes a look at Krull and says “I remember playing that game many a time at the bowling alley” 
I learned just to go along with it to hurry the interaction along. No point in going into details.
They are not pinball people they won’t understand.
