Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Thanks.
Yeah I started that paint job about 1 thinking I would be done around 5 but I ended getting nutty and of course taking a lot more time than I thought.
Pretty common around here
I did manage to have a late dinner and fit in one beer.[quoted image][quoted image]

Cabinet looks awesome and that beer sounds delicious. How did you like it?

Thank you.
Beer was great. Might drink one more although I am usually in bed by now. We call it
“Father bed time” when the clock strikes 10pm around here but I hear a baby crying inside so no hurry to get back in there

Looking forward to seeing your trim choice , The Cabinet is Stunning!

CP wireguides are installed as well the t nuts.
I did the wireguide install on a solid flat surface there was a good strong backing as the were driven in.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Do you have advise for repairing the holes that barbed wire forms were removed from and tore up the play field? I feel like bondo would crumble when installing the guides back in. Maybe something like wood epoxy?

I would use fiberglass /fiberglass resin with some saw dust mixed in to give it some wood element and body.
I would also tape around the damage you are filling very closely because what makes it a good choice is that it is super strong and bonds well. It is also a bit tougher to sand so you want to keep the footprint to a minimum.

Put some work into the select a card playfield.
One thing I don’t like about these type of restorations is it is pretty much impossible to keep the work from looking too new.
There just isn’t a way to do something today and make it instantly look 70 years old so I tend to shy away from them.
Hopefully giving it a new life is worth the trade off.

Now some yellow and a touch of orange
Might be able to squeeze one or two more colors in before a flash of clear is needed but might not.
As the colors stack getting a tight mask ,good cuts and doing no harm to what has been done gets tougher And tougher.

There are games out there that should be preserved, and they have been preserved their entire life. Might as well make as new if it's any less than that. Looking 70 years old is just preserving dirt.

Dealt with as much of the white as I can for now.
In areas I have just today repainted like the red sections I cannot go back in there right now and do the white.
I mixed up a cream like color for the white but with the age on this playfield it is still going to look way whiter than what is on there.

Then some blue.
The girl won’t be repainted because it will probably make her look 3-d and do more harm than good.
At some point in the next round of repaints I will address the wear in her face though. Minimal approach on that.

Looks great just like his work always does. Will be watching for final product. Just hope by making this wood rail pretty again it doesn't mean his to do list grows even larger. Because there are many wood rails out that use his magic touch. And who wouldn't like there pin up ladies to look even better.

Chris does your talent extend to drawings or paintings at all. I mean your painting skill is insane when looking at what you are doing here so it has me curious.

Amazing work for sure, something I could never do or understand how to do.

Not really. My hand writing is pretty sloppy and I can’t really draw anything impressive from scratch.
It’s real hard to define exactly what my skill set is and how it can be applied. It’s unique no doubt mostly based on a little experience in a lot of things and a lot of experience in a couple things. Its something I instantly know how and where to apply in this service but it comes more natural than anything.

When good things go bad.
I was combing through my BK pictures before I start the final session on the cabinet and I noticed how far off my stenciling was around the start button.

Knowing that my stencils were lined up properly I investigated further.
Original is at 2 &1/4 from the left

I wasn’t crazy about the front scheme anyway. Completely happy with the sides and head but was planning to rework the front during the final session so not a huge set back but just goes to show how little things that aren’t even on your radar can pop up.

I was wondering how much the sword being off center was going to bother you when I looked at the photos. Didn't think there was anything you could do. Guess I was wrong.

I guess never despair when visiting HEP's blog series, its a magical workshop, where anything that goes wrong is just a visual lesson on what to do next, to make it better again . i love this stuff thank you for taking these extra steps to share what your doing , i do not have anyway of experiencing this scale and quality of restoration except here

#6437 4 years ago

I put just enough work back into the BK front to catch it back up with the rest of the cabinet.
That means just getting it re blueprinted and cleared.
I knew I wanted to change a couple things anyway.
The ones I knew I wanted to change without experimenting I did.
That was red the letters and move the yellow representation to the arch
I also knew what I wanted to do with the blades of the swords.
Not quite sure on the horse and handle and without an extra stencil handy I just shaded those for now as place markers.
I might get another stencil or I may just do it manually not all that complex.
Main accomplishments are the lettering and the proper location of the button on the same finish level as the sides.

Fantastic work all around otherwise.

Your work already has you pretty much self isolated, but was wondering if the pandemic
has had any impact on your work yet?
Maybe some supply lines might get delayed a bit?
Especially with "near marshall" law going into effect all around.

No impact so far.
I live a pretty quarantined lifestyle already and am a cautious clean freak so I am not really having to make any adjustments personally.

When reading and watching your posts I’m always asking myself if you ever make mistakes. I did notice the button off center but didn’t have the nerve to say anything. But I personally appreciate you sharing that, makes me feel better when I make mistakes, and yes after 40 years I still make mistakes! So please show more mistakes! Maybe I shouldn’t even be using that word, corrections!

Corrections are just part of the process. Some aren’t your fault others are.

Great way to put it! I mistake is only a mistake if you accept it as being OK. Otherwise it is just all part of doing anything custom or "over the top" nice. When something is "less than perfect" a "pro" knows how to solve the problem. The rest of us would just likely accept it and say "good enough". That is what makes a professional job a professional job.

Technically this wasn't Chris' mistake. The cabinet he sourced was drilled wrong. Unless I am mistaken, they come drilled.

This is the HEP difference right here. He noticed and corrected the mistake before it even got out of the cabinet painting stage.

You pay for what you get indeed. Well done Chris!
