HG 3 prepped and ready to paint.
Then painted.
Basketball is painted to look more like a real one.

HG 3 cleared in matte clear.
This one rarely needs an extra session because no colors stack and the ones on there cover very easily and thin.

Fathom SS is finally turning the corner.
These games are really time consuming and even though they seems to get done quickly it is a bit of a journey from the point the cabinet gets prepped to paint all the way until it is a finished product.

I can start wiring the cabinet now that doesn’t take too much at this point. 7B7BF035-7428-4A4A-B456-7E8B2635179B (resized).jpeg7B7BF035-7428-4A4A-B456-7E8B2635179B (resized).jpeg

The playfield is just about ready for the harness.
All new lamp sockets less the three that need to be original.

Everything rebuilt on plugs new caps on the switches that use them.

The original coils were all good on this one so just the flippers are replaced. Those are converted to brand new non linear versions.
The linears are okay if rebuild able if not I would rather convert.

what size transparent tube do you use to protect all your switch tabs? I should really do this on PF swap just to be safe

Can’t remember off hand. I think it is 1/8 ID for the single blade stuff.
I keep a bunch of different sizes though.

Chris you must get asked this a million times but do you ever do just playfield work? People send you a totally stripped playfield for touchups and clearing?

Quoted from radial_head:

Not anymore.
I used to but it just got to be more hassle than it was worth especially with everything else I have going on.

#6216 4 years ago

Time to run the main harness on Fathom SS.
Besides redwiring the lamps it should be pretty easy since everything else has been rebuilt and placed on plugs. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The new insulated buss wire is being threaded into the harness anywhere possible. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
The original terminations are on a single plug that make a good stopping point for each junction.

Only have the BK cabinet standing in the way of making room for the wood railimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

Before I get too involved in prepping the BK cabinet I set up the base game to verify as much as I can.
Things like proper glass fit
Lock location etc are all things I need to know are right or correct before I start filling and priming.

Non-Pinball Question - What model of Concept Rowing Machine do you own? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

#6223 4 years ago

Have you ever had requests to paint inside the cabinet instead of using a "Art Blade" decal?
I realize this would add more time to the game, but I think it would look better especially with your skills.

Quoted from chad:

I’d be afraid of it getting scratched up. At least a decal or blade is easy to replace.

Quoted from SkaterVet:

That is a model D. I have had it for 7 years and it has never needed a thing besides new batteries a couple times.
If I were only going to have one piece of cardio equipment the rest of my life that would be it.

Never been asked but I have considered it before. The issue is pretty much exactly what Matt said. If scratched it is impossible to match again.
Also outside of very basic ideas or schemes it is going to be hard to get and have the type of detail you see in the art blades.

Fathom SS is getting closer.
I squeeze the final portion of it in with setting the stage for my next projects so it is pretty much solder all morning until time for the mid day workout.
Then lunch, then cabinet work then back to the soldering in the evening.
The upper section is done working down the sides.
I leave the pop bumpers off until later because they get in the way.

how many HEP pins are currently out there in the world?

#6229 4 years ago
Quoted from cait001:

how many HEP pins are currently out there in the world?

Just a guess would be 300 or so.
Could be a little high or low but with roughly 2 games a month for 15 years it comes in around that.
I would probably only count the branded games as true HEP examples personally which is why I started marking them that way and that would likely cut it into less than half of the estimated 300.

For any of you guys not good at math that makes a HEP machine "more rare" then most machines ever produced! ADDED VALUE BECAUSE THEY ARE RARE - maybe not. Added value because they are beautiful - for sure! Keep up the great work Chris.

"they don't make 'em like they used to" rings true here. Just look at the size of all those drop mechs on Fathom! Let's remember that pic every time someone wonders "why doesn't CGC just make old games like Fathom and sell them for $4k?"

I think maybe only one of mine is branded, the Whirlwind recently finished. My Earthshaker and Funhouse may also be, but I really don’t know. Chris may remember. But if we’re talking pre-brand, I’m guessing I’ve owned more HEP games than anyone. I’ve sold a few of them, though, and now “only” have seven, I think. I’ve sold probably near 10 now, not sure exactly. Off the top of my head, I’ve sold HEP versions of RS, SS, NF, WH2O, Krull, BBB (original), WCS94 and almost certainly one or two more I’m forgetting.

My CC is HUO and thus probably never gets restored. Outside of that, well, I’d consider sending my TZ as it’s the last Bally/WMS DMD game I have other than the CC that isn’t HEP restored. Otherwise the only pins I have are newer Sterns that are also HUO and probably only one of those is a long term keeper (Tron LE, though my METLE may also be).

The HEP games I have now are MM, TAF, Funhouse, Whirlwind, Earthshaker, Safecracker, and Banzai Run. All are prototype (or at least have an original prototype play field) or sample except for the MM which is a standard production game.
