Not really. On exactly the same cabinets.
The only real advantage is that they are using the same paint and clear so I waste a little less and have less clean up between colors.
If two different cabinets at the same time then it might actually be worse than doing them one at a time up until it is time to clear them both.
IJ cabinet is ready to decal then decaled.
Corner alignment is as good as it gets on these with the main focus being what is not covered once assembled.

The playfield on this one won’t even pull forward and latch properly
The playfield looks ok. I should be able to salvage it.
I had been holding out for a repro but after being strung along for a couple months(next week,in two weeks ,cutting it now, etc)I simply run out of time and have to move on.
The shooter lane is probably the biggest issue that I can spot right now until torn down completely.

I have managed to get some work done.
The parts came back from plating. [quoted image]
That allowed me to work on building both Spirit 2 and 3 back up.

So how do you decide between replatting and tumbler? I have a pretty beaten up project with quite a bit of rust on all the metal which i was considering sending for replatting. Would every metal parts of assemblies be able to be platted? drop target, slings, ball through...?

Just my 2 cents ..... tumble first and see what it looks like. It’s surprising how pieces will clean up. If it still looks bad then have it plated.

The playfield is chemically cleaned
Prepped and cleared for the first time. Will need some repaints and all that but I did get to a much better starting point and was able to eliminate some ghosting it had in a few inserts.

The process involves leveling the stencil colors.
This final clear will be a matte clear that should yield about a 75% gloss or so.

The art itself on the apron has a couple minor flaws but it looks great overall and a nice finish helps that much more.
Also cleared the POA for IJ the first time.

wow - pretty amazing how quickly that PF cleaned up and thorough!! with your 'chemical' method. The ground in stuff really is history.
Quoted from mollyspub:I think that's the worst shooter lane I've ever seen!
You need to see more shooter lanes. It's mostly just dirty, but not blown out like many I have seen...
Quoted from Muskie82:What product do you use to "chemically" clean?
I use a few different things which I think I covered here somewhere.
Dirt is usually water based or solvent based
Water based cleaners are used to clean the organic or water based soils because they reactivate and remove them best due to there common component water.
Cromax v3921 is a good product for this.
Solvent based cleaners are used for solvent based dirt. This would be oils and other things that are not water based for the same reasons as the water based cleaners in that they have a common component which is solvent or are made specifically to remove solvent based contamination.
There are several cleaners that will do this I like to use straight acetone because it is usually the main ingredient in all those cleaners where as the water based ones are much trickier and propriety.
The cleaning process used on the IJ playfield might be a little deceptive because it took a good bit of sanding to get it to the point it was at once cleared but the cleansing process is essential and does help a lot.
First water based dirts are removed
Then solvent
Then sanded and prepped
Then water based cleaned again
Then solvent based
Then ready to coat.
Spirit 2 playfield build is coming along.

It ended up evolving into a really time consuming rewire
The way the slingshots are wired is that the two switches share a lead of the coil
This means that each sling shot switch requires six wires to be color correct and it’s own plug then a separate plug for the actual coil after routing a jumper wire through the harness.
With the game having 5 slings it is tedious. 88A61113-1B4E-4DED-AE5A-919C7FB01AEE (resized).jpegC4FB4DE6-E55F-45A5-8E3D-83083E603F2E (resized).jpeg
All lamp sockets are now two lead so that involves a good bit of mapping and fishing the new insulated wire into the harness.

The areas that need work are numerous but nothing major. Sometimes a lot of little things is more work that one big one but the real issue when dealing with this type of thing is that it can lead to a lot of color matching, masking and clean up.
The yellow is the first concern. There is ground in dirt ,chips ramp flap wear 133D6E9B-912D-4857-9F06-603A17F4A40C (resized).jpeg

Then the wood tones are lightly frosted because of bulb burn and ground in dirt.
After that blue areas of concern, some orange
4 colors in total plus some black work.
IJ playfield ready then it is cleared and looking much better.

Got one Fathom cabinet braided and up on legs.

Here is a comparison between the HEP paint scheme and the BTC.
One is a perfect match to the apron the other is probably somewhere more in the realm of original but a bit too drab.

Also the BTC stencil work is questionable. Bally logo on the head, woof. Is that freehand?

Crappy auto-outline. The thickness is a dead giveaway.
Fathom chrome is braided and up on legs.
The build up of the head of that one will be more involved because it is a brand new head do the lock, arm and other parts take much more effort to put in place.
The nickel plated ball guides and parts are placed on the Spirit 2 playfield. It is then powered up for testing.

I’ve also taken a few of your beer suggestions, haha.

Happy bday Curtis. My birthday was yesterday as well. That sweet my bday is the same as someone famous.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Curtis turned 22 yesterday.
How long until he needs a full restoration?
