The SC and TOM have to be done and at their new homes by Christmas.
St Bernardus comes by to check progress.
He is obviously in the Christmas spirit even though it isn’t quite Halloween yet. DA54E43B-BF11-45B8-823E-7760BBFDF7E1 (resized).jpegDA54E43B-BF11-45B8-823E-7760BBFDF7E1 (resized).jpeg

The edges are sanded on the SC.

Hey Chris, Have you ever cleared over decals and if you don't mind sharing, What brand of clear are you using?

#5307 4 years ago

I am still blown away by your decal edge sanding technique. I just would not have the balls to try that!

#5308 4 years ago
Quoted from heni1977:

Hey Chris, Have you ever cleared over decals and if you don't mind sharing, What brand of clear are you using?

Yes. I have done that. Basically that is what happened with the Radical.
I only do this if I have to though.
It requires the plastic painting system and steps for the best possible adhesion.
I use DuPont products. They are now Axalta /Cromax.

Busy Friday morning

Moved the SC Cabinet back into rebuild area

Began the underside rebuild of Radical.

Still finding challenges as I install the deleted features.
In this case the sling arm mount falls right in line with a t nut hole.

I figure out a #6 small case t nut on the topside will allow clearance and anchoring.

Looking at the reference picture
Radical and SC were active projects.

I feel pretty confident in my subway making and alignment although it seems like anytime I am asked to do this type of thing(parts and feature fabrication) it is troublesome on the back end. This is why I really tried to get it figured out and working prior to teardown.

My plan is to finish both the Radical and SC this week.
Then I can better focus on the TOM and Fathom

The POTO is another slow project that is starting to make its way into process.
The day I pulled it from the warehouse I thought how easy it was going to be with a nice new playfield.
Once I got a good look at it inside I realized it was a much more involved restoration than anticipated.
It’s biggest issues are severe rust and corrosion.
If this were a Williams Bally game I would have a good stock of plated parts and it would go smoothly but in this case I will have to break each part down have it plated and rebuild from there.
Much more work upfront, down time and revisiting it later after the parts are back in hand.

Had to build pallets and pack games the rest of yesterday.
They were supposed to pick up Monday but didn’t call So that usually means Wednesday so I am glad I got it out of the way.

I'll look for my cut of the proceeds

I think that I've got the price structure worked out for you

basic course
$500 / week
covers the cost of your meals and room & board. during your indentured servitude, you will tutor under jedi master chris hutchins learning all of the tricks of the trade

advanced
$2,500* / week
covers the cost of your meals and room & board, allowing you to bring your own game that you will restore under chris' guidance

ultimate
$10,000* / week
covers the cost of your meals and room & board, chris restores one of your games while you get to supervise, provide input and drink 10%+ beers

* additional fees may be incurred based on the number of questions you ask and issues that chris has to fix

Your post just made Chris re-think this idea!

Where can you stay for a week with meal and room and board for 500$?

The advance one ..... this would drive Chris nuts. As he has advised on several occasions he has OCD. Watching someone restore a game under his "guidance" would drive him crazy!

The 10k one, that will cover the restoration of the game and the beers!

all in fun j_m_

Hi HEP,
once you sanded the edges after installing the decals, how are you repainting them?
I did always cut the edges with a sharp scalpel and than repainted / touched with a fine brush per hand.
The important preliminary work here is that you have straight / stable edges so that the knife can easily "float" over them while cutting the decals.
It takes almost 2 hours but it's worth and making the difference.

The Radical is all done. No chance of finished pictures today. Maybe not tomorrow either because of Halloween but maybe so.

I was sent a new CPR backglass to install.
The channels were really tight and the art does not really extend far as it should towards the edges but I made it all work.

The mirroring is nice and the art is durable so maybe just a small tweak in the sizing or process would help.

That looks spectacular Chris! Are you saying you were able to use the latest ROMS even with adding back in features that never made it to mass production?
Also, I've been considering the CPR back glass for my Radical, World Cup, and F-14 Tomcat. Are the fitting tweaks you mentioned easy for a novice?
