Awesome!!!!!!!!! How much does a restoration like this cost?

Something like this rarely happens for anything less than $7500 and up unless you have a game that needs very few parts.
It sounds like a lot but honestly it isnt very lucrative on my end .

#302 7 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I just don't care for them. I have some reasons for that.
The main two are that using them at times can not leave enough threads to properly secure the actual plastics and there can also be clearance issues.

Putting personal preference aside, clearance can be a show stopper but thread issues can be solved using longer/different hardware and some adjustments.

And making the shot suck, usually.

I think that was why they were requested too.

Can't wait to see this when it's all done... awesome so far!

This is reasonable to me. I would pay it and be happy to for sure. I hope someday to get a machine like this.

If a person can afford it, I think that price is well worth it

I have often found to get about a 10 to 15% improvement in something that is mass produced, it often costs twice as much. You can even use Stern as an example, how much better is a BM66 superEL over a BM66 EL. I would say not more then 5%, but you are paying $5,000 more for the superEL if you can get it.

The run of the mill The Addams Family cost, about $5,600. What HEP does is more then a 15% improvement to the game for 150% of the cost of the game. When you are going to to having the top 1/10 of one percent of the best on the market, that is what it would cost.

I would love to have a few of these, and I would pay the price, but I don't have the money. Just because I don't have the money, does not mean I am going to discount what he does.

These HEP restores are all pins that people find and send to HEP correct? Does HEP ever source the pins themselves and then seek buyers? Or do buyers ever ask HEP to find the pin as well as restore it?

Jaw dropping work

#310 7 years ago

These wings look awesome and the wings-to-greens ratio is just right. There's nothing like that where I live though. On the other hand, I'm thinking that if I stare at them long enough I might be able to start tasting them. This thread is turning into a torture.

There's a beer in there somewhere. I know there is.

I'm having chicken pot pies tonight.

They were great $.60 wing day at Moes.Fat wings there ,smoked. Not fried or over sauced toothpicks
Just a short walk from the Temple........The Carolina Beer Temple where I captured a Yeti and brought it home.

Amazing work HEP.
And congrats to Tigerlaw on getting his pin back home soon.

#316 7 years ago

Hi Chris

Amazing work, the underneath of that playfield looks beyond mint. Quick question I didn't see anything regarding boards. Do you replace with NOS or do a rebuild, or replace with repro I.e rottendog? Just intrested to hear your take.

By the way love those side blades, getting my AF rebuilt at the moment into a black edition by an excellent local restorer in OZ thought I had researched every mod available but haven't come across them before. "They really tie the table together" .

Seriously well done tigerlaw, I'm sure you will be having an awesome Christmas flipping your new table. Thanks for all the updates, it is a privilege seeing the work that goes into these restorations.

#317 7 years ago

Forgot to add just my 2 cents have a look at http://pinballmod.com/producto/uncle-fester-copiar/ for an alternative fester mod and other mods on AF. I got the same uncle fester you used in tiger laws rebuild untill Mick who is doing my restore put me onto the above site. I ordered Uncle Fester, Cousin It and the Bearrug. Honestly when they arrived I just gave the old Fester mod I had to a mate the quality and workmanship of these mods is beyond compare. In person the look 100 times better then the photos and match perfectly with the playfield imagery, can't recommend them enough. I think you will appreciate the craftsmanship.

That invisiglass is on point

No matter how many times I see them, that well manicured lawn and flawless garage door catch my attention every time.

What is the timetable for a game like TAF like from the moment you receive the game until the moment it goes on the truck? Curiois for the future.

#324 7 years ago

Thanks for posting all the pics. Now mine really looks like crap.

#325 7 years ago

Awesome job! It's a stunner! Enjoy Tigerlaw!

Thanks the bushes are getting a bit wild again so hopefully I can get that taken care of shortly.
Timetable on a game like TAF can be no faster than 3 months but as long as you are willing to wait beyond that timeframe is fine too.
Obviously it doesn't take me so long to do those types of games it is more about working them into the mix.
Many people are surprised to know this is primarily a one man operation and I do almost everything myself.

#327 7 years ago

Mother of God. Congrats Tigerlaw, you convinced me to jump in on a semi-restored TAF with IPB playfield and it was the best decision I ever made. Enjoy!

All that work to paint, black out, and color match parts and pieces all over the playfield….and those are the apron cards you go with?

I'll just leave these here:

TigerLaw, if you want a particular one, I'm sure I've uploaded them all before, but you can let me know which one and I'll upload it here.

Christ is that beautiful! But aren't all the pins you do. Obscene work AS always Chris. Wonder of Mr Kelly can top it..............

Yes all that stuff takes time but cards are something anyone can change so I just have a standard set that goes on everything because if I have say 4 TZs,some will want stainless, others chrome, another black, some like original cards others send or request custom so it is just kind of a universal compromise there that can easily be dealt with to taste at destination unlike the paint etc.

I can totally see how trying to scale this up would lead to spending a great deal of time hiring, training, managing, filling paperwork, fixing screw ups, headaches, lower quality etc... The next thing you know is that you're making less money, developing an ulcer and not sleeping at night. If your son is half as talented as you are and wants to join the family business down the line that's another story. The work you do isn't at risk of being automated or going to China or Mexico so I'd argue this is a viable career path.

The funniest thing about my business is I worked really hard to create it and grow it .
Then in the early days when it was a bit bigger with real employees and quite a bit more volume (2006-2010) I made much more money at it but was miserable and could not wait to scale it back down to where it is now.
It just wasnt worth the extra money because it felt more fragile and uncertain at that point because I could not completely control it.
The only way to do this right IMO and for this to properly represent me is to do it solo and do absolutely as much of it as I can myself.I will accept just barely squeaking by sometimes for that in trade.
My oldest son has great potential and is gradually coming along.
I started out in the family business washing cars, then prepping them for paint, then painting bumpers, then painting beaters ,then nicer cars until I was out on my own painting Ferraris and MBs.
I reapplied that skill set to pins the same way.
Point being in relation to him is the best way to learn anything is from the ground up.He thinks he can do a lot more than he can right now and he is probably right but you have to pay your dues.

I tell everyone I do work for the same thing. If you want your game to look like a fine piece of furniture, have Chris do it. It will cost you, and you will wait, but he's the best.

If you'd like your game to look like it just came from the factory, only a little bit nicer, I'd be more than happy to do it for you.

Beautiful work as always, Chris.

Wow, nicest TAF I've ever seen.

#340 7 years ago

Very nice conclusion and beautiful game!

As a note for anyone getting a TAF done. The chair cliffy is not needed in a home environement. You can get some added protection with a little mylar wrapped over the edge. With the chair being such and important shot in the game, the cliffy tends to make it too difficult in most cases and unbalances the risk v reward.

Also, dont be afraid to add lots of extra light while your restorer has the game town apart. TAF is very dark and a little more light in the pops and backside can work very nice on this title.

Again, AMAZING work HEP!

Now for the accessories.
Each is bagged.
Legs are wrapped one at a time in the blanket.
The group of bags are rebagged and then wrapped in with the legs prior to shrink wrapping.
Game is now safe and I will build a custom pallet for it.

No tub for the bottom of the game to sit in?

Since the sterns no longer use the runners the older games have... I've resorted to putting a cardboard boot on the bottom of the game to protect the back when moving my nicer games. Stays in place well enough for sliding around etc

That restoration is nothing short of amazing. I can't even think of anything else to type. This machine is outstanding.

Edit: I thought of more things. Really like the color choice on the bumpers, and really this is more like "built an Addams Family from the ground up" than a restore. Which is nuts! It's basically a NIB machine!
