Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

LOL I haven't tried it yet. We were at the Seattle show one year and someone offered me a beer. I forget the name. It had a hint of something in it but I couldn't figure out what. It was grapefruit, but again, just a hint.
It's one of those beers you'd drink one on a hot day after mowing the lawn. You couldn't drink them all day or throughout an entire restoration.

Bryan, pick this up one day Schofferhofer Grapefruit ... I am willing to bet you'll like it (no sarcasm).

i'd normally be all over the Leinie, but that one isn't my favorite of theirs. Since I'm a Chicagoan go with the 312 to start it off!

Nah. Drink the good stuff from mn first (fulton) then the swill from IL.

Seeing as Kornfreak bought me a couple cases, I'll start with this. No glass needed around here.

Too bad it's not his game I'm working on today.

I think that was your best choice.
AFM?Do people still restore those?

Second most restored game around here and I haven't done one since MMR was announced. This is for a guy in Atlanta who's like me. He'd rather have an original than a remake.

Your light crate looks familiar. I just redid his and used the same colored sockets as yours. Nicely done.

Anyone tried stuff from Three Floyd's?

Damn. I forgot all about that one....and the TOTAN.

Always glad to help you out, Chris.

Since you asked, MB followed closely by AFM, then MM and TZ.

Ok, back to Chris's work.

Thanks for the outstanding work you did on the TAF I purchased from John Brady thst you restored a couple if years ago, still have it with the Whirlwind you did for me. You know you do awesome work when people send a PM ASKING to purchase the pins you have restored. I never imagined I would ever sell Voltan Escapes Cosmic Doom but I got an offer I could not refuse. Just another testimony to the tremendous work done by Chris and the team at High End Pins. Love my TAF, Whirlwind and older HEP Getaway restoration.

So worth the money.

Thanks for all you do for the hobby!

I must say, Bryan's Spotted Cow and Chris' Humming Bird beer look pretty good. I would like to try them one day

Alright I am back at it today.
Switch harness rebuild and rework is done
Trash out of the harness.
Harness in place.
Lamps are next and tend to need the most attention.

Lamp harness roughed in place.
I have three main issues to tackle on the lamp harness.
The first is getting rid of all the generic daisy chains .
The second is replacing numerous rusted and bad lamp sockets.
The third is extending and general reworking the flow of the lamp harness in various sections I find are more forced than I would like.

Bookcase in place.
Leveling is achieved by placing firm target foam under the mounting points that hold two screws and a single washer under the one with just one screw.
Tgen they are drawn down as needed to get a simliar egde all the way around before turning the dial type adjuster to set the actual up and down.
Also of not some socket styles were changed around the bookcase for better clearance

Magnets are individually fused.
I know there are inline fuse holders out there for this. They are great.
This game had them I just like this method better because it is permanent and a bit more factory looking.

Should be a bit easier to change them out or troubleshoot them as well. You can use one of these.

Solenoid harness is soldered in and I will start tightening up the wiring but first I will burn it.

Looks great.
Not a fan of the yellow pop bodies, black skirts and all green tops though.
That would have to grow on me.
Maybe it will look fantastic in person or after the game is back together.

#282 7 years ago

Little bit of detail work still left but it is very close to completion.
I realize the bumper change might not appeal to everyone because it is not what they are used to but I just like the way it flows in scheme in the area for a change of pace.
It looks very clean IMO and building the same game over and over doesn't really lend itself to much creativity or originality on a game that gets done often with 20,000 examples out there.

Agreed.
They are certainly an attention getter.

before you completely wrap it up, I would suggest to tigerlaw to have the full ring pop cap lights added in. TAF is very dark in that area and doin green upwards and warm white downwards facing light ring would look awesome!

comet has these for sale and they look fantatstic!

Sounds cool so maybe next time but when games get to this stage you don't start ordering parts and taking them back apart unless there is an issue.
This is the final day or two before a game gets packed and shipped.

tigerlaw could always add them also. It is a simple removal of the ramp and then just drop them in under the pop caps.

That said, the one cut cap would need a slight modification to the light ring but still easy to do.

This was my initial thought as well but I waited a bit and eventually liked a lot how it matches the playfield black/green/yellow theme in the cemetery area.

The speed at which this is done is mind-boggling.

It looks awesome, feel free to send it over my way if new owner doesn't like the green caps and such

I think it looks awesome.

I really enjoy playing this game when it's running right. The example at Silverball is in need of some TLC and I would love to play a fresh HEP TAF.

#293 7 years ago

I think the green caps looks perfect, great idea.

#294 7 years ago

Really like how you incorporated those "extra" plastics from the set that were never used on the original game. The doorway where the ball exits from the left ramp onto the track. I've been wondering how to do that. Great solution!

#295 7 years ago

I've noticed you don't use plastic protectors, is there a reason, or just personal preference?

#296 7 years ago

One amazing job!! With a solid clearcoating and home use, would the Mantis protector under the chair be a reasonable option versus the Cliffy? Both are great products.

#297 7 years ago

Awesome!!!!!!!!! How much does a restoration like this cost?

#298 7 years ago
Quoted from Mitch:

I've noticed you don't use plastic protectors, is there a reason, or just personal preference?

I just don't care for them. I have some reasons for that.
The main two are that using them at times can not leave enough threads to properly secure the actual plastics and there can also be clearance issues.
That is just my experience with them but they can be useful as well..

#299 7 years ago
Quoted from jecase:

Yes Mantis is fine and what I normally run because I like to showcase the fact that there is nothing to hide but Cliffys were requested .
They are better protection without a doubt if you dont mind the complete covering of the area.

And making the shot suck, usually.
