We should take up a collection to buy this from TigerLaw before it gets played and donate it to the Smithsonian to be used as the standard of perfection against which all other machines will henceforth be judged.

To very loosely quote from S'pin'al Tap:

"Nigel It's like, how much more [perfect] could this [machine] be and the answer is none. None more [perfect]."

I'll stand behind you when you inform Pavball that this is going to be re-routed

When your wood rails have more reflection than 99% of playfields... you have a HEP game

#254 7 years ago

Really appreciate all the positive comments.
It means a lot .

Playfield is coming along on the topside. Fitting and getting the rollover inserts working was the usual and expected chore no shortage of them on this game.
I wish I could say it was all downhill from here but I still have the underside to contend with.

thanks much!

Quoted from comment23:

Is there a thread on how to make one of Jim's T-Nut tools? I need that in my life.

Large thick washer with felt applied to one side is what I used until Jim sent me one of his to use also.

A M A Z I N G work here!!!!

Process is pretty simple. It starts with minimizing additional clear on these inserts since they are already gummed up at delivery.
Using the old pf as an example I just use a fine file and open up the slots..
To check fit without commitment I insert a rollover button with the tip.removed.

Solder iron will get a work out too.

There will not be stapled bare wire.

Me too if it were an option or sped things up a bit

#267 7 years ago

Looks OK so far I guess
Ridiculous.

There was once a bar set..

You took the bar and smashed it, went to the bars house and 'teased' it's mother, called it's dad a soft-cock and kicked it's dog in the arse on the way out.

I stole most of that from an aussie flavored milk advert and added my own bits but the add was cool...

That is a bloody awesome looking machine, congratulations to HEP and the customer/s

Matt.

Yeah ridiculous.

Thanks guys. Making up some targets. Bob Langelius sent me these.
Excited to try them out.
I have some plated era correct brackets but I prefer the newer style on targets.
Here is one built. I reversed the rivet because of the plastic. The rounded end of the press seems a little softer touch than the pointed side.

Placing the coils.
I am giving the Pinballlife linear flipper kit a try.
Normally I convert back to the old style but since these are a new offering from a trusted source I feel comfortable trying them out.
They feel pretty snappy so and everything fit well so we will see.
Targets are in place also.

#280 7 years ago

Cleaning up the wiring of this area by installing a plug that will allow for easier removal and bench working of the zipper flipper assembly in the future.
Removed wire are just loops that won't be needed once the assembly is rewired.
Assembly is mechanically rebuilt an test fit. Will rewire next.

Chris, great job so far! Any feedback on the linear kits from PL, how do they compare to the kit from PBR?

Where do you buy your replacment coils or coil wrappers?

Harness is made and color coded with plug.
Now officially in place.

No real feedback on the PL kit yet other than everything fit well it was very complete and there is absolutely no binding at all all of which I have found to be problems with other kits out there.
I started having real problems with the older style kits I was getting from Marco and other places where the link would not even fit in the bakelite hole, the C clips were way to small and more so that is why I gave these a shot.

I got these coils from Marco.I have found them to be good replacements with a consistent style wrapper.

Beautiful work -- Happy B-Day!!

#286 7 years ago

Original jet bumper assembly is cleaned.
To be replaced will be the spoon, cap, diode on both coil and switch, the coil itself and the wafers.
I will be using black wafers.the parts not replaced were nickel plated.
These will be consolidated into a 6 pin plug per bumper where the entire assembly can be removed easily if needed but it also gives the ability to clean up wiring.
Parts.
One assembly complete and in place.

Jet bumpers done along with most other coils. Should be moving on to the target banks and general harness next.
On the main harness the adjoining plugs are already done which will make final cleaning and rebuild easier.

Harness is cleaned and blades are polished.
All switches will get new clear tubing as it is positioned.
The other switch assemblies like the slings and targets have been rebuilt with new caps, diodes and clear tubing .Those were also made into sub assemblies with new mini harnesses and placed on plugs. Nickel plated brackets finish them off.

very nice. finally, someone else is doing what I want to do with my creech restoration and making sub-assemblies and mini-harnesses (for things like pop bumper, slings and flipper coils) to make working on the game easier further down the line

excellent job sir!

#297 7 years ago

About 3/4 of the way through the harness now.
Going with modern style looms and brackets in some spots to open up the areas of the playfield for easier access to bulbs and switches for adjustment and servicing.
