Finally finished this EBD.It took a good bit of time because of the wiring, replacing all the lamp sockets and rebuilding every single connector.
I think of this one as almost like a remake. It has a new cabinet using the best stencils I have used to date from the PinballPimp, updated boards, new plastic set, bumper caps, targets and a nice repro playfield.

Here is the restore

The internal stuff.
I would say the difference in doing it right /rebuilding all the connectors verses taking your chances and not rebuilding all the connectors is an easy 25 or 30 hours. There are just a lot of connectors to deal with and no matter what your skill level and equipment not every single wire and connector goes perfectly so there are times where it has to be done over here and there.Time consuming and my least favorite part of these followed by the lamp sockets, then the stenciling.
All targets and switches were rebuilt with new caps and protections to insure no shorts or legs can be easily touched.A problem on these quite often.79_G.jpg59_G.jpg// Error: Image 417089 not found //// Error: Image 417090 not found //// Error: Image 417090 not found //

Does it come with a Factory correct guarantee?

#11 7 years ago

I love seeing the classics like this given the HEP treatment! Great stuff as usual Chris!

I am not on that level so it comes with a factory incorrect guarantee. Wrong sockets, wrong boards, wrong wood for the floor, wrong paint. All for the better IMO though.

#13 7 years ago

These older games just excite me so much more seeing them all beautifully done than modern DMDs. Looks awesome.

100x better than the original! nice work... as always.

Do you have Titan Competition silicone rings installed? They look a little too white to be plain rubber.

No it is standard white rubber on this one.

#18 7 years ago

Fuck that is beyond mint. Wow!!!

#19 7 years ago

We need the famous CPR battle of cream or white under the plastics. Looks like cream on that one, Illinois Pinball version? I have always seen only cream myself! Well done another beauty of a pin.

Pinball Rescue was a real asset. Sad state of affairs how that went down. Another amazing job on this EBD. Do you ever sleep?

Wrong flipper mechs too....that's ok, I like these better too. Stunning work as usual Chris!

Damn. Wow. Drool. Envy.

#24 7 years ago

holy shit. beautiful.

#25 7 years ago

That truly is a work of art. Love the improvements over original. Great stuff yet again.
Internal metal is it zinc you use or nickel. Or is it up to the customer. Really nice work again Chris.

Thanks Rob. They are blue but seem to disappear at certain angles.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I saw a slight fingerprint on one of the mechs on the underside of the playfield. Geesh.

Figured as much...

The blue is a great touch! I actually put orange skirts on mine and think they turned out great!

Yes, a much bigger difference in what you see done vs a modern game. Looks really really nice!

#33 7 years ago

Amazing! Whoever is getting that must be very, very pleased.

#34 7 years ago

Shit is sick! amazing.

#35 7 years ago

Beautiful, as always.

#36 7 years ago

Chris I love your work! Amazing looking pin! This is hands down the best 8BD I have seen in pictures and I am sure it beats the ones I have seen in person.

#37 7 years ago

I love these non "A" title restorations.. they are more deserving IMHO then the top 6 or so we see all the time.. much more rare and beautiful.

This is beautiful work.

#39 7 years ago

That is a stunning EBD, no doubt about it. Congrats to the owner.

#40 7 years ago

Jesus Lord...you definitely put the D into that EBD.

#42 7 years ago

Who cares what it looks like... If it doesn't play and look original, it doesn't interest me in the least. I know I know, I'm not the majority, but I'm not confused about what I like. Every time a game is "restored" I believe it makes a mint condition original increase in relative value by roughly 1-5%

#43 7 years ago

Wow, that is beautiful!

#44 7 years ago

Anybody know where I can buy one of these?

Probably more than that.

I sold a bunch of EBD for $300 each, and now even a worn one fetches $1000.

A truly mint one would probably fetch $3500?

#46 7 years ago

Good move taking out the 555 sockets and going bayonet.

I'd say in 15 years that a mint condition original will be worth 1.5-5x's more than a "restored one".

Maybe.

Most restored ones are counterfeit anyway, like all those Bally Kiss games I was selling when Gene was still making playfields & backglasses. Reproduction cabinet, playfield, backglass, plastics, pops, flippers, MPU, legs....what was original? The wiring harness, coindoor and the transformer, lol.

#49 7 years ago

I'm simply looking at a dozen other collectable markets. Original antiques, posters, toys, video games, coins, autos, that have been "restored", are always less desirable on the open market. Pinball may be an exception to this... for now.

People always make the argument that new parts or a new play field will make pin more reliable and play "better". While it certainly makes it play "different", I never felt like a restored game played "better" in any way at all.

Personally, I want to play the games like I would have encountered them back when it was 1982-1987. Only in fully working order. I know the joke here but not all ops back in the day were slackers. OP's in my area kept games working well and even fixed problems if you left a note on the games.

Nice. Wish I could play it
