The VUK in the X Files I had started to fail. Replacing the VUK switch and the shooter undertrough switch fixed the problem. It seems the power goes through the switch and the internals of the switch had failed from age.
You may not have the same issue but the parts are cheap and easy to swap and might fix the problem.
