Doing a restore on a BSD. I'm decent with the wood work and mechanical stuff but very new to the electrical side. When tearing down yesterday I found a wire coming from the back box light panel that was soldered to a connector J121. There was also another wire coming from the back box light panel that was not connected to anything. Here is what I'd love input/advice on:

1. What was intention/purpose of this connection by the person that did it?
2. Where should the loose wire be connected to?
3. I want to replace the J121 connector completely. What is the correct name for this connector, where can I buy a replacement and what tools are required to reattach wires to connector?

I've shared pictures of the soldered wire and also the wire that is not connected to anything.

Thanks!
Craig

for that connector you would want an idc punch down tool. that is an idc style connector.
however replace it with this style.

you will need a molex crimp tool. bob roberts sells one pretty cheap.

Awesome.. thank you very much for the info buying these things right now. If anyone else has insight into the reason for this "hack", I'd love hear it. -- Craig

Seems bob roberts is closed for the time being. The ones that I have do not use interchangeable die. They were like $7 or so.

was just digging around on there but didn't know exactly what to look for. Does anyone have a link to a molex crimper they recommend. Do you need different crimpers for different sized connectors?

Sweet. just bought it.

Great, they are not very hard to use. My the open part of the connector goes to the inside of the crimp tool. You may need to bend the wings slightly so that they are easier to fit into the tool.

Those are GI connectors and wires. The green striped wire goes right next to the purple.

Oh the manual should tell you what color goes to what pin on the connector so it should be pretty easy to figure out. But the trifurcon connector will make a huge difference in the game's longevity. You also will probably want to replace the header pins, especially if they are burnt at all.

Thanks. Do you have a link to where I can buy new header pins?
