i wanted to see if anyone can give me some advice on a new problem. I have a williams Indiana Jones. Today, with the pin powered off, i removed a #47 bulb and plugged a small LED strip in that socket. When i restarted the machine, none of the optical switches are working on the pin. I get no response from any in the switch tests. I examined several of the visible optical switches (those that i did not have to remove any parts to get to) and did not notice any wires that had come unsoldered or such. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thank you!!

First, remove the LED strip.
Next, enter switch test.
Let's make sure that the other switches are working.
Let us know.

Hi Chris. This is Kyle, you did some board work on my IJ not too long ago. You are a champion and i thank you and salute you.
I took out the LED strip, put the original bulb back in and powered up. Error report as follows:
- Error mini playfield bad
- Error idol bad
- Error drop bank bad
- check switch 94
- check switch 95
All of those are run by optics. In switch test all normal switches test fine. Nothing from any of the optical switches, and there are as many as 15 if you include the trough.
Strange, i believe i understand what the problem can be if you have row or column out. Not sure with all the opticals. i should prob take a look in backbox...

Hi there Kyle!

All of those switches are on column 9 of the switch matrix, a column unique to a few games. The column drive is via the 8-driver board in the upper right of the head. A violet/white wire drives the column. I'd make sure that the wire is connected at the 8-driver board (it will be an IDC connector, argh).

Next, and more likely, check that J118 is securely connected and that the 2 or 3 wires stuffed into it are secure.

Wow, i reseated both of those and the problem is solved. thank you so much Chris! incredible that all i did when changing the lighbulb was lift the cabinet up one time and didnt even touch the backbox, and the problem was still as simple as reseating a cable. Lesson learned: Occums Razor, always look for simplest solution first
