I note that the square tube vertical plunger for ball release does not rely on spring pressure for reset but just its weight. Hope the pics help. Your post has prompted me to go through my machine.

I have finally started to do a resto on my Pikes Peak. Oldgoat would you mind checking your machine to establish whether there are pins along the side of the top plates, above the peaks, which I believe are intended to locate the vertical bars upon which the peaks slide. On mine there are no pins as shown in pics below. Does your machine have pins or rivets in those holes?-if you can would really appreciate a couple of pics in these areas of your machine. Thks Wayne.
