My AA was giving me similar troubles. I sent the boards to the guy who has the $99 board repair service on eBay... his name is Cesar. Money well spent there. Got the boards back with a few new components on them, cleaned the edge connectors, and the game works fine. Cesar will troubleshoot the score circuit board too.
Cesar Gonzalez is very good with the Atari stuff!
