Hey guys,
Found a pinbot about a month ago and when I went to look at it, well... the cabinet was pretty bad, so got him down a little for that, no coin door key, a little more off for that, play field has a couple wear spots on it so of course a little more off for that as well. Happy with what I thought was a good deal I loaded it up without being able to look inside it, but I did play a game before I gave him the cash. Got it home and got my trusty lock pick set out and opened the coin door... it was still wet inside, rusty junk in the coin box (rusty balls and 3 quarters). I think the pics speak for themselves. took it down to the cabinet, replaced the front and bottom wood along with the front brace. Primer and paint, new stencils from Jeff, thanks agian Jeff for the shipping break.
got it all back together and well, I ended up installing a new power supply board (rottendog) and a new mpu board (also rottendog)... I now find that cn3 that was a 12 pin on the original board, is now a 9 pin on this board... (goes to the lower displays) anyone know what I can do about this? I don't think I should have to modify this new board, or my harness for that matter. Also I have no slingshots, and none of the pop bumpers work... they register points when I actuate them, but no worky when I tap the platter. any thoughts on this? Thanks for any ideas guys, I'm going to call the people I bought the board from in the morning to see if they can tell me how this board works in pin bot without all 12 pins being there for cn3, unless one of you good people know thanks. Oh ya I almost forgot, no sound either

I guess I'll check coils and diodes in the morning. Just wouldn't think I would have lost all 5 at once though.

PRMAILERS "Did you check the solenoid fuse?"

Checked the fuse after first power up. I ran a test and nothing was working, replaced it and that did bring some things to life but not the slings or pops.

LUKEX "When I installed the MPU from RD it worked but had some weird issues that Jim from RD said were not able to be easily remedied. I sent the board back for a full refund - no question."

Purchased the board from K's Arcade and was assured it would work in a pinbot, I sent an email last night and will call him this morning after 10 to see what I need to do with this... the 9 pin that should be a 12 pin goes to the displays and with those 3 missing pins I'm thinking this is why I don't have the 3 lower displays working.

LUKEX "I ended up getting a refurbished original board and no issue since."

Were did you get your refurb? do they have more? lol

SPFXTED "Looks like you put a ton of work into this puppy...I hope you find an easy fix to your problem."

Me too brother...

* update*
All the coils checked good, removed the left sling diode and found bad, so I suspect I'm going to find my diodes on all the coils shot... be busy for a while.

"No problem with the shorter connector. The extra pins were never used so Rottendog did not install them. Just let the extra connector hang off the edge and enjoy your game."

Just got this from Keith so I guess I'm good with the board... I just need to find out why I don't have lower displays now...

Nice job on the Cab- Apollo .... Also , I've never been a Fan of Rottendog , I bet Jack has some Original boards for Pinbot if you want to go back to factory ,,, Good Luck !

Thanks Brother
I might do that... just checking the diode again with my fluke and it's good... so why are none of the pops or slings working? hmmm.

#15 11 years ago

Went into diagnostics and reset factory settings and I now have pops, and slings...

still no sound though

#17 11 years ago

did you save any of the boards? lol

#18 11 years ago

everything works now but the sound and the 3 bottom displays.

So it turns out that if you hook up the under pf connectors the wrong way you end up replacing every board in the head. new sound board and new displays and driver board ship today...
this was not a cheep lesson to learn. Guess I'll have to do a pf swap on this as well since the whole thing is going to be new except for that.

Quoted from wizzardz:

that really sucks. Was it any particular under-pf connectors, or just any of them? I have a PB that I'm looking to refurbish. It has a burnt wire harness (transformer to backbox), so I need to make/replace that before I go too much further. But this potential for taking out a bunch of boards is intriguing - anything you can add would help avoid a potential big pitfall
Nice work on the table.

I didn't realize, not paying attention (excited about the new machine) I guess... white goes to white, and black goes to black lol did not think the black would plug into the white... and when it did I thought okay, and kept going with it... I just grabbed 2 connectors and when it went together, well... I won't ever do that again.

need to change my handle to dumb ass for awhile.

Quoted from GListOverflow:

Ouch. That's some really nice looking work on the cabinet though. It would be awesome if you could expand on the process of removing and replacing panels like that.

if it hadn't been for the water damage it would have never come apart I don't think...
