I am trying to get a Harlem Globetrotters back online. I've purchased a new rectifier board and did not take good pictures so I am following the directions on http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bally/Stern#How_To_Hook_Up_a_Bally_AS-2518-18_Rectifier_Board

My question, the website says the 18-gauge red wire comes from lug 5 and solders into E1, while the 18-gauge yellow from lug 1 solders into E2. However on my transformer I have the 18-gauge red on lug 1 and the yellow on 9.

Should I go with the colors (i.e. use the 18-gauge red no matter where it comes from,) or go with position (i.e. whatever color wire is in lug 1 goes to E2)?

I am guessing to go with color, since there isn't anything at all on lug 5 of the transformer, but this is so fraught with disaster I am hoping someone with some experience can help me out. Am I looking at the wrong website?

The only pic I took of the original setup: IMG_0157_(resized).JPGIMG_0157_(resized).JPG

The schematic I have shows Lug5 to E1; Lug 1 to E2; these are the AC wall power input to xfmr; and no connection for lug 9.

Your transformer is wired for 115VAC, meanwhile the Pin Wiki article and schematic as mentioned by Cody is for 120VAC hence a different lug being used. Make sure to add/remove the jumper links between the transformer lugs as appropriate (i.e., for 120V, link a wire from lug 1 to 3, a separate wire link from lug 5 to 7 and cut the wire link between lugs 9 and 11).

Not to derail, but I'm about to put a Stern transformer + GPE rectifier into a Bally, and the transformer only had one wire for each terminal/E point on the original board. Is that a problem? What kind of problem?

thanks so much guys!
now to go see if I can keep from blowing myself up....

If I remember correctly, Sterns only used a single wire but it may have been a thicker gauge. It has been a while since I had to rebuild a Stern Power Board.

If only someone made a kit...

Wait, you guys have lugs on your Bally transformers? Mine just has wires sticking out of it.

Quoted from jj44114:

Pre-1980 games have the lugs.

When we redesigned the rectifier board in 1980 we were able to get the transformers made for us with a connector on the end instead of solder lugs. This made life easier as we could replace soldered with connector jumpers.
