Hi Pinsiders-

I've owned an HUO Star Trek (Pro) for about 2 years that has had no problems during that time. Recently, in the middle of a game, a loud static started coming from the speaker in the bottom of the cabinet. Not being an expert, I did the obvious stuff-- did a reset, reinstalled the software, looked around for obvious loose connections (probably could check more thoroughly). Only obvious oddity was that the fuse lights for F5, 8, 7, and 10 are out, but when I pulled these fuses they all tested positive for continuity.

When I cycle through the service menu, the sounds change slightly as can be heard in this video:

Any suggestions? Googling and searching came up with nothing, but it's not an easy search to parse out....

Thanks in advance for any help!

Quoted from HighVoltage:

I had a similar issue with my premium, but sounded different, with mostly certain samples being staticy. I put in a new cabinet speaker and it went away, so either the speaker went bad or one of the connections was flakey or something, I never tried the old speaker again.
Try with the cabinet speaker disconnected to see if audio is fine without it.

Thanks-- did you manage to find where the speaker was connected in the backbox? I looked but it was not obvious. For better or worse, the speaker wires are soldered @ the speaker itself.

Unfortunately, the odd indications at the fuses (the lights being off when the fuses are fine) have me worried that there's some bigger issue going on.

Quoted from Dr-Willy:

was your coin door open when the lights were off? I bet if you close it the lights will come back on....

Ah, I learned something today! Yes, the fuse lights lit up with the coin door closed. Thanks!

Quoted from HighVoltage:

Yes, was suggesting desoldering these. Swap a speaker from one of your other machines.
Given the sound symptoms, I'm skeptical it's the speaker, but it makes sense to eliminate this simple possibility first. I was skeptical in my situation too...

You're right that I might as well try-- unfortunately, although removing the speaker wires did get rid of the noise (which at least confirms that all of the noise is coming from the under-cabinet speaker), hooking up another speaker brought back the noise.

Quoted from hlaj78:

Is the ground wire connected?

Which ground wire? The one in the machine itself (and if so, is there a place where it is susceptible to becoming detached?)

The outlet itself is appropriately grounded.

Thanks!
